electrolysis ( Midwest Permanent Hair Removal ) 1/14/2011

While i was here for a pedicure I saw advertising for permanent hair removal. I thought it was laser. I received a free consultation while I was there and learned it was electrolysis not laser. I also learned laser is not permanent. I had been waxing for years and also learned that was the worst thing I could do! I had told the woman that does it that I heard that it was very painful! She gave me a complimentary treatment and I soon learned it was not nearly as painful as I've heard in the past! It wasn't as relaxing as the pedicure, but not nearly as painful as i thought it would be. She told me she uses some method called simple or something. I haven't been coming to her for very long, but in the short time I 've been coming to her I am completetly satisfied and wished I would have done this sooner! Her office is clean as well as the spa. She's really friendly as is the whole staff there. I don't know that it's not as painful as i've heard because of the way she does it or the method, I don't care either way. I just know that I wouldn't just go to anyone for this type of service, I definately would ask around and I do like this person! more

No ""sense of Serenity"" at all! 10/9/2010

First of all, Sense of Serenity needs to change the name of the place. There was nothing serene, relaxing, or calm about the joint. In an attempt to find a spa in the south suburbs where my mom lives, instead of trekking downtown, I stumbled upon this place. One good thing I can write is that the website is beautiful and well done. It does not truthfully represent the place. It is the most unprofessional establishment I have ever been in. The workers come in at any given hour (late for my appts), wearing their street clothes (no type of uniform, apron, lab coat, etc.). They sit in the lobby and loudly discuss their personal lives. The services that my mom and I signed up for were massages and pedicures. We could not receive these services at the same time, nor interchangeably. There seemed to be only one person for each service they offer. I waited the 30 mins for my mom's massage to be completed before getting mine. You'd think that when my massage began, her pedicure would be initiated, right? No. The pedicurist was running late. Meanwhile the manager started my mom's pedicure, sitting on the floor with a thong, with most of her behind hanging out. Who doesn't feel a draft? Anyway, I once again waited until my mom's pedicure was completely finished before starting mine. Furthermore, in the time I waited before my massage, I inquired about the placement of eyelashes. I was told by the receptionist that the massage therapist was the only one who performed this service, and she was booked. Following my massage (while waiting for my pedicure), the massage therapist hung out in the main seating/pedicure/ manicure area talking to the rest of the staff, cutting out school pictures of her kids, walking to the gas station to get snacks, etc. This place was an utter mess, that tends to get the business of locals and/or personal acquaintances. They have no idea how to professionally run a business, nor an idea of what the name of the place implies. more

Discusting! 9/14/2009

First off -I don't know who is reviewing this place -(which is adjoining a liquor store), but as soon as I walked in I wanted to leave. Discusting place! Dirty and cluttered -not calm at all! Cobwebs everywhere -I didn't even want to take my clothes off so I canceled some of my services. Since I was there with some other ladies I stayed (we reserved it for the morning -but they still took walk-ins! -they got us for our $50!). After my treatment I looked at their products Most were in unmarked containers but one product used for my 'mint mask' was Queen Mint Julep -I can get that at Walgreens for $3!!!! Pros: NADA Cons: evrything more

Stressful 5/19/2009

After reading the great reviews online about Sense of Serenity, I decided to book the $98 special which included a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure. When I attempted to call to make an appointment, no one answered the phone. I knew the business was open from the hours that were posted online. This should have been my first clue to the kind of service which is provided. When an employee did answer the phone I made my appointment for 9:30am, but the receptionist suggested coming in at 9am, so a continuity of services could be provided. On the morning of my appointment, I arrived at 9am promptly; however my esthetician did not enter the building until 9:10 am. When I was called back to the massage room, I waited, undressed, on the massage table for another 15 minutes. The massage was decent. My facial was rather quick and I spent most of the time under the steam. My nails were the breaking point. I had to wait for the staff members to finish with a walk-in client?s manicure and pedicure until I was taken care of. I would not have minded waiting; however the background of the spa was chaotic and stressful. Staff members were coming and going as they wished. One staff member also commented how she was going to take a nap in the back before her next client arrived. The staff were eating in the pedicure chairs and talking on their personal cell phones in the business area. My manicurist was constantly watching the other staff member performing a pedicure on another client. (Not to mention, the polish on my toes started chipping 3 days later). I had now been at the spa for nearly 4 hours (when all I received were ?mini? treatments- which should have taken about 2 1/2 hours). I then felt rushed out due to the increase in clients because of prom. There are also no dryers or lights to help your nails dry. As I went to pay for my services, I reached into my purse and my nails smudged. The receptionist watched this happen. When I commented my manicure was now ruined, she stated she would see if the manicurist could fix my nails. After 4 hours at the spa for services which should have taken half the time, I needed to attend an engagement and could not spend any more time here-I ended up leaving and taking off all of the nail polish at home. more
