great outdoor bar 5/5/2011

Love the new outdoor furniture! great place to gather with friends. The outside is def better than the inside, but that is what selwyn is...an outdoor pub with fun music food and drinks :) so next sunny day, go play! more

Great Spot 1/19/2009

I recently went to this bar for lunch and was very happy with not only our service but our food. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and we were able to sit by the cozy fire with a great view of the tv. I would definitely go again. Pros: Great atmosphere, parking lot in back more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DUMPSTER! 8/27/2008

This bar went from a nice chill place to hangout to a bar with 2 idiots attempting to serve beers. Avoid this place at all cost. If I was the owner, I would hire 2 friendly women to bartend and kick the 2 geeks to the curb. Trust me, go to Angry Ales... The loser bartenders only complain if they dont get tipped enough. They are about as cool as a crotch rash. Cons: everything with emphasis on the bartenders more

One of the worst experiences of my life 8/21/2008

Our waiter took 15 minutes to even acknowledge us. Once he did he started to take our order and then left for another 10 minutes. When he came back he was like ""Sorry about that, I saw this girl I know and I wanted to go say hi"". He was also a huge pr-ck with an ego to match. DUDE, YOU'RE A WAITER. Pros: We didn't die Cons: Service, food, prices, other customers more

$3.50 for a miller lite bottle 8/7/2008

if you like yuppies and expensive beers it's the place to be! p.s. guys there are never any good-looking girls there more

A cute little bar 7/22/2008

a chill place for a beer if your young and like to stare at other college kids drinking too much. Cool patio area. Pros: patio Cons: small bar more

expensive but loved it! 7/18/2008

fun with a great patio but even on stormy nights the inside is fun too. music and sports always playing and sitting at the bar will introduce you to all the locals of myers park and fun bartenders. if you stay long enough though your tab will reflect it. beers are $5 on tap and drinks even more. this is my new hangout! Pros: fun Cons: expensive more

Not Again 6/5/2008

I would not recommend visiting. I have been duped into giving this place another try on many occasions after other visits have left me unimpressed. I won't make this mistake again. Food is ""gut-rot"" bar food, and trying to get a drink from the inside bartender as a male is next to impossible. I have tried too many times to like this place with sizeable bar tabs, but the food and service in plain point of fact.....SUCK. Certainly won't be back until there is a change in the way they treat their paying customers. more

Avoid like the plague 6/2/2008

the only thing decent about this place is the laugh it brings watching underaged UNC kids brag about their basketball program. the inside is comparable to a public restroom and the food is mediocre at best. for the atmosphere there are plenty of alternatives versus this place. if you do find yourself there for reasons beyond your control, avoid getting drinks at the bar, the bartenders will most likely be feeding their egos instead of taking your order. more

No Longer A Fan of Selwyn Pub 6/2/2008

I used to love this place. Great location and always a good place to run into people you know, but I am no longer a fan of Selwyn Pub. I've put up with the rude bartenders for years, but I've had enough. They constantly complain about tips, but pad my tab every time I go there. If you want better tips, try being nice to people! Mike is rude and refuses to serve people if he thinks they don't tip enough. Selwyn Management: Get NEW bartenders!!!! Pros: Location Cons: Rude Bartenders more

Probably the worst place I've ever been to 3/2/2008

Rude service, yuppies everywhere, disgusting food, ridiculous prices....that's Selwyn pub in a nut shell. If you're a pretentious Duke/NC grad who desperately wants to fit in to fill some void in your otherwise pathetic life, this is THE place for you (you'll love it). If that doesn't describe you, I would avoid this place like the plague. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service, People, Prices more

love it and love the bartenders 2/28/2008

Stopped by to have dinner and ended staying the entire night. Everyone was friendly and the hawaiian bartender was very fun and attentive. Seems like everyone that comes in is a local and knows everyone else. Not to mention the food was actually very good and quick. My new favorite place and I felt very comfortable going in by myself. Definitely will return with friends and sit at the bar again! Only down side was that everyone there seems to be very yuppyish and went to carolina or duke. Pros: Bartenders, Regulars, Patio Cons: Lots of Yuppies more

Not a great place to hang out. 8/15/2007

Selwyn Pub is not a great place. It looks pretty run down the bartender was in fact rude. The beer specials were horrible, I think he told me $20.00 for a domestic bucket, last time I checked that was not a special. Almost any bar in town you can get a $1.50 domestic on tap every day of the week. Other bars offer things like $2.00 Guinness every day or have a tap night. The day I went to Selwyn the Boddington's or whatever draft I had, it has been a while now, was $5.00 or $6.00 bucks and I just wasn't impressed, I don't believe for that price it was even an English pint. The people sitting outside were snotty little Myers Park girls and very caught up in themselves. I would rather go to Tyber, Tavern on the Tracks of a Handful of other bars. There is truth to the fact that the cheap specials draw a poor quality crowd, Charlotte doesn't have a trully fantastic bar which is SAD. Pros: Good looking women Cons: Bad Service, over priced drinks and the place looks like a hole in the wall more

Great Neighborhood Spot 7/29/2007

Always a great time when you head to Selwyn Pub! The location is prime real estate and the crowd is fun and fratty. I couldn't tell you how much a beer is, but every time I've signed my tab I've never been offended by the total. The food is typical bar food and always delicious. The service is attentive and quick - even when you're sitting outside enjoying the charlotte weather. It has always felt that everyone sort of knows each other (and probably does considering they run in similar social groups). This is a great place to meet up with friends after work, on a weekend night, or for a casual dinner. Pros: location, crowd, atmosphere Cons: parking can be tricky when it's crowded more

Best patio in Charlotte. This is where all the Carolina and Duke grads hang out in Myers Park 5/29/2007

Selwyn Pub is the perfect place to meet up with your friends from Carolina and Duke. There is a huge oak tree in the middle of the patio which helps keep things nice and cool during the summer months. I often drop by the Pub with a few of my friends for a burger or some pizza before we go uptown. At the end of the evening, we all meet up again at Selwyn Pub. Selwyn Pub is so popular that parking can be a little tricky. Take my advice use the on-street parking on Colony or Tranquil because their parking lot is always packed. This is not the place to look for dollar beer. However, the prices are in line with the uptown bars and there is never a cover. I guess it's a tradeoff. Ofcourse I would love to have cheap beer but I can't stand the rough crowd that always seems drawn to the cheap beer specials at many other bars in town. I am not sure who wrote the prior review but he sounds like he must work at another bar. If any of what he wrote is true, then why is Selwyn Pub always packed with young professionals? more

Avoid at all cost! 9/17/2006

OK layout food is below average and the service is terrible. This pub is the farthest thing from a neighborhood pub. The 2 bartenders are nothing but rude and don't really care or notice anyone waiting for a drink. I would try the many other wonderful bars/pubs in Charlotte. Pros: IN a good location. Cons: Service is lousy and food is horrible. more
