There are major issues with this studio, including that the owners have, for the past year, focused on a very small group of students, including only those in their daughter's cla...

Give me a break.... 5/18/2007

I am laughing because everyone posting here that LOVES Sell's is probably in one of their two little competition dances. Those are their ""elite dancers"" and the ones that are favored. My daughter is still there because her friends are there, but I think we will be phasing out after this recital. We will look elsewhere. I am sick of all of the brown nosing parents, and the girls that think they are so much better than all the others because they were picked to be a ""Rockette"" or whatever. The parents act the same way...it is ridiculous. Nothing against Chris and Shanna...they are very nice people, and I think they try, but there are a lot of cliques, and I can never communicate with anyone at the studio. more

Great Place to Dance 5/18/2007

Sell's is a great dance studio, I would not send my child anywhere else. I think the problem that some of the other posters had was the parent's problem and not the child's. If the studio is not for you, move on, there is no reason to ""bash"" the studio. My child has made life-long friends with many of the dancers and loves Chris & Shanna. The recials are top notch and rival any Broadway performance, they are unique and professional. more

My opinion of Sell's..... 5/14/2007

The posters below might LOVE Sell's Broadway dance, and that is fine....that is their opinion. I still stand by MY opinion however. The classes are too crowded, the rooms too small, and there is too much favoritism. All the posters below are in the ""clique' that people speak about, so of course they are happy. Maybe their kids do work hard, but so do all the other kids at the studio. You would be surprised at how many of the kids are also not happy. It is just not the parents. There are TWO groups of girls that are favored at this studio, and I bet every post supporting Sell's is either a student from either of these groups OR a parent from either of these two groups. This studio is just run very poorly, and is very, very unorganized. That is why we are going elsewhere. It is just time to move on. You will always have people that love one studio and others that want something better. Again, this is our family's decision and my opinion of this studio. Cons: Very unorganized....crowded classes. Too many ""cliques"" more

Sells is Awesome! 5/11/2007

This studio is absolutly amazing! There is not one thing bad that I could possably say bad about them!! The are not only the best dance teachers ever, but they run an awsome studio. If you are new to the area don't waste your time looking at any other studios, come to sell's. Pros: It's a great studio and they are great people Cons: None that I can possibaly think of! Sells is absolutly great! more

Home Away From Home. 5/10/2007

I have been dancing @ Sells for the past 8 years & I have never been more happier. I have always loved dance & knew that thats what i was going to be. Sells has made my passion deeper each year. Pros: Amazing teachers who are there for their students. Cons: None that i could possibly think of =] more

Don't go to this studio.... they are getting a bad reputation 5/9/2007

I agree with the other poster below......We are also going to be pulling our daughter out of this studio. We also just found out that their new ""hip hop"" instructor was let go for ""giving a student private instruction"" without her parents permission! What type of dance teachers is Sell's hiring??!! Anyway, this along with all the other chaos at this studio is enough for us to look elsewhere. I heard there is another Trinity dance studio opening up by the new Outback....we will possibly look into that studio or Dance Evolutions in Tarpon Springs which I have also heard is really good. Don't waste your money or time at Sell's Broadway Dance. Cons: Completely unorganized and NO communication from the owners. Very crowded classes. more

Stay away! 5/8/2007

This will be our last year at Sell's Broadway Dance. We paid for costumes so will finish out the year, but after that, we will not be sending our girls back. Once again, they are very unorganized with everything, and only concentrate on CERTAIN girls at their studio. If you are not in this particular group, your child will NOT be noticed. We have had enough! We know of a lot of former students that now go to Dance Evolutions in Tarpon and say they love it, so we will be checking out that studio this summer. Sell's has not changed a bit over the years. The same girls are their ""favorites"", and nobody else is given a chance. I have been hearing nothing but negative comments from other parents as well about this studio, so I know it is not just my family! I would NOT reccommend this studio to anyone after our experience here. Cons: Class sizes are HUGE...not enough room to dance! more

VERY good studio 4/3/2007

My daughter has been dancing at Sell's for many years. She loves it!! I would recommend Sell's to any parent who is looking for there child to be taught by caring, dedicated, patient teachers who work there butts off giving EACH AND EVERY student the attention they all deserve. In my experience and from what I have observed over the years parents are well informed and the teachers are right there if you have questions. To ""dancemom45"", you have me confused. You say that your daughter was with the studio for ""many years"". So why stay at a studio for so long where you were clearly unhappy(according to your review). Sounds more like your bitter about something!!!!!! I just hope people who are looking at these reviews have the sense to realize that. more

NOT a good dance studio 4/2/2007

In response to Laf....yes, we were with Sell's for several years and in the beginning we were happy with the studio, but it has gone downhill! They are losing students and the numbers are absolutely down from years past. People are realizing that they do not know how to run a business. They absolutely favor ""certain"" students and the majority of parents at this studio will tell you that. Unless Laf, you are one of the parents of those ""certain"" students, then of course you would be THRILLED with the studio! No, I am not bitter, just feel my daughter needs to move on to something better. Unfortunately for Sell's, I think a lot of parents will also be pulling their kids out and moving on soon. more

Amazing dance studio 3/29/2007

I have been dancing at Sell's for several years now and I am extremely happy there. The teachers are all professional dancers and have extensive training in many different forms of dance. They are also more then just teachers, they are our friends and they are always there when any of there students need them, whether its help on a dance step or getting ready for an audition. They always support us in anything we do. They also give us many opportunities to learn from different people with different types of dance backgrounds, from Prima ballerinas to singing and acting. I?ve learned so much while dancing here and I wouldn?t be the dancer I am without them. They have showed me the passion of dance, and that is something that will never leave me. more

love SBDC 3/28/2007

just for the couple of you who complained, id like to say that im a dancer at sbdc and im not part of any ""clique."" i dont get millions of solos. but im happy here. i cant even tell you how many times chris and/or shanna has taken extra time after class or before class to help me with a step, teach me a dance step i didnt understand, or even there was one time i started crying in class, and shanna pulled me aside afterwards just to talk to me and make sure i was alright. if thats not what teaching is all about, i dont know what is. im not in a clique. but personally i think dancing should be about love, not about being front and center all the time. stop throwing fits when your kids dont get parts. they should dance because they love to dance, whether theyre front and center, in the back, or at home in their bedrooms with the door shut. i respect your opinions, but your wrong entirely. and as for the ""teachers with questionable behaviors,"" they took a background check on that person and nothing bad came up, so there was no reason not to hire them, and as soon as the incident happened that person was fired. the situation was dealt with professionally and no one was hurt. sbdc is a safe environment, and a LOVING environment, and they dont fight dirty and try to steal students from someone else's studio. they teach beacuse they love us, and they love dance. PERIOD. Pros: the teachers love their students more

Great Dance Studio 3/28/2007

My daughter loves to dance. She has been dancing at Sell's for 6 years. She started as a very shy child and has just blossomed. The owners of the studio have nurtured her love of dance as well as her personality. The owners are former Broadway dancers and are very creative. Dance is definitely their strong point. The end of the year recital is an amazing production that is fun to watch even if your child isn't in a number. I have recommeded this studio to many of my friends and would continue to do so. Pros: professional staff more

Wonderful instruction and recitals 3/28/2007

My daughter has danced at Sell?s for 3 years and absolutely loves it. The caliber of instruction she receives is phenomenal. The owners/instructors are trained professionals that have years of experience on Broadway. They often bring in guest professionals for master classes and workshops, which benefit my daughter by exposing her to different teaching styles and techniques. The recitals are extremely professional, with top-notch choreography and backdrops. I have a friend that still talks about last year?s recital. She was amazed at the ?professionalism? of the production and the ?entertainment factor? of the routines. I would recommend Sell?s to anyone looking for a dance studio for his or her child. Pros: Instructors, Routines, Recitals more

wow grow up 3/28/2007

This is outrageous! I can not believe all of the pettiness of some of these reviews. This isn't a chat room, it is a place to reivew businesses. There are way too many personal attacks not only on the owners but on little girls. If you are not happy, move on. Why doesn't the wonderful Dance Evolutions that everyone is raving about have more than 1 review? Because you would rather spend your time being negative. If you have legitamate concerns about the business, voice them but don't sink so low to personal attacks. All of you women need to look in the mirror, this isn't high school. You are complaining about competition, so if a studio holds auditions for teams and your child doesn't get picked, you live with it and that's life? Give me a break, you would cry ""favorites"" This whole thing was an experiment, take a number or two that has great costumes, choreography etc. and let all of the kids go. What's not fair about that? But all of the complaining about it being not fair is ridiculous. My child is not going to competition this time, and I think the possiblility of them taking any other groups is slim, considering all of this pettiness, it's not worth their time or energy because in the end someone is always going to be unhappy. If you are that sensitve don't put your kids in dance or anything competitive. Chris and Shanna are hard working, dedicated teachers who love what they do. They don't deserve any of this. Pros: dedicated teachers more

OK studio 3/25/2007

Pretty good studio....could be more organized. Pros: Instruction is okay, but they do a lot of the same routines from year to year, just different music and costumes. Cons: No communication, very unorganized, choreography the same from year to year. more
