The last two weeks were the most stressful I ever had, but it all ended well. When I turned on the computer one day, it made a noise, showed a weird screen and shut off. After dealing with a repairman, who told us for $45 it's beyond hope and we should sell the computer for parts, and tech support, which we had to pay another $50 for since our warranty expired, all we got is that we found out it's a hard drive failure. We agreed to buy a new hard drive and they installed it for another $360.
At this point, we already spent $455, and we had a working computer - but all our files were gone, and we were not very happy, so I decided to go with Secure Data Recovery Services as my last attempt to fix the problem.
They were quick to respond and they had the hard drive at their location the next day, where they ran some tests to find the problem. There was no fee for the test. In the next 3 days, they kept us constantly updated on what they were doing. They were very reassuring and honest, saying they dealt with problems like these for years, and that the prognosis was good but not 100%.
When they finished we had every important file we needed. Now the sad part is, we didn't have to spend that $455 with the repair man, tech support, and the hard drive installation. Secure Data Recovery Services said they could have done all of that for us without making us pay any extra. The only thing we would need to pay for was the new drive.
