What a bummer.... 3/30/2009

My son and I traveled to Manhattan Beach for Spring break, very excited to stay so close to the beach at what seemed online to be a great place. The manager was super nice when we booked a couple of weeks ago and even upgraded our room for no extra charge. When we arrived they put us in a room near the pool, it all looked good, until we opened the door and were assaulted by the overwhelming odor of extreme mold and mildew. We immediately asked to be moved (they did apologize about the smell, citing some problem with that whole building), but told us that all the rooms were booked except one that was more expensive than the one I booked, they wouldn't give me that one, so there was nothing they could do and we could leave and they wouldn't charge us (gee thanks!) I'm from Colorado, I had no idea where to go, or if I'd be able to find a room during Spring Break week. The only saving grace is that the desk clerk felt so bad that when I asked him to help me find a new place, he did. It wasn't close to the beach but at least we didn't have to sleep in our rental car! I would have thought management would have at least contacted me to apologize, they did not. What a bummer! Pros: location Cons: the way we were treated more

terrible 2/13/2009

I don't usually write reviews, but my recent experience was so terrible, that I feel like writing a warning. This was possibly one of the worst hotel experiences in US. The room is crammed and small, noises from the street kept me awake all night, fixtures and appliances are either malfunctioning or broken, AC/heater unit had essentially two choices: ""sauna"" or ""freezer"". And above all, rude and unprofessional staff, who seem to have never heard of word ""hospitality"". \r \r In summary - unless you like staying in overpriced room while being treated rudely by hotel staff, chose one of the many other options in town. Manhattan Beach is so small, that all the hotels are walking distance from the beach, restaurants, and each other. Pros: walking distance to the ocean (similar to all the other hotels in this area) Cons: rude and unprofessional staff more

disappointing 6/15/2008

I so would like to be able to recommend this place but what started out as a great trip (my family was all in town from the Midwest for my wedding) was ruined by the complete lack of professionalism I experienced from their front desk staff. I had seen good reviews in my research but my experience at the Sea View Inn was far from great. To say they were completely disrespectful would be an understatement...I was literally in shock at the way I was spoken to by one of their staff members. When I brought my experience to the attention of the manager he defended the actions of the kid in no way offering an adequate or even sincere apology for how I was treated. Keep in mind, I was spending thousands of dollars for multiple rooms at this place, it's not like we stayed one night. I've traveled a lot and never experienced anything like this. I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone in good conscience and I would encourage you to look elsewhere. Pros: not many other comparable options in manhattan beach Cons: staff was so unprofessional i was shocked more

Great Value and excellent location. 1/13/2007

I stayed at the Sea View the first week of January for business in downtown LA and an offsite in Manhattan Beach. The Sea View has a motor lodge, motel feel as they have different buildings with a few rooms in each. The rooms are clean and mine had a view of the ocean with a balcony. My room had a fridge and microwave and a decent desk for work with plenty of outlets available. The only downside to my room was that the balcony was facing the main road and therefore the balcony glass door and window did not block the sound of traffic outside. This made it difficult to get a solid night sleep. Besides that the Sea View has great service and is only 3 blocks up from the beach. You literally walk out the main door and down 3 blocks to the beach. It is also close to a market, restaurants and bars. The pier is a mile away, but if you walk it on the beach it seems a lot shorter then walking through the streets. They also have free beach cruiser bikes and boogie boards. Go to Player's Surfboards to schedule a surf lesson while you can. They have a good reputation and the owner is there almost every day. This is by far the best deal close to the beach, so if you can adjust to having to ask for certain amenities (ironing board and iron) it will be a great value. Also, have a good homemade breakfast at the Local Yolk and then make your way down to Wahoo's for some fish taco's. Pros: Great value and 3 blocks off the beach. Best value, by far, in Manhattan Beach. Cons: Not too many ""standard"" amenties. Rooms can be loud due to traffic. more
