worst restaurant experience in Healdsburg 8/19/2009

Dinner at Scopa was by far the worst I have experienced in a restaurant in Healdsburg in the 32 years that I have been coming to Healdsburg. My parents, husband, and I went to dinner at Scopa over the 4th of July weekend. While the food for the most part was very good there were a number of things that made the experience a pretty terrible one. It was an hour before any food came to our table at all. When we pointed out that there was quite a wait for our food, we were told that there was only a 2 person kitchen, which was certainly understandable except for the fact that other tables that arrived after us were receiving their food items. There was one table of two behind us that changed a few times in the time we were there. The 2nd couple into that table received their pizza about 10-15 minutes before my husband's pizza came out. My dad ordered a dish and 10 minutes later a waiter brought out bread. We were confused as we had not ordered bread, but it was pointed out that it went with the dish that my dad had just about finished already. I ordered a delicious peach salad that was brought to me twice and the wait staff was very surprised when I told them that I had already eaten that dish. Had this been the end of the mishaps, I would not have been so upset, but upon receiving the bill, my dad flagged down the hostess who I believe is also the wife of the owner/chef. My dad actually started out by saying all the aspects that we enjoyed about the food, but then pointed out very nicely some of our concerns that I listed above. The hostess said in response that this was the experience that they had to offer. I was incredibly surprised that there was no acknowledgment whatsoever of any mishaps and instead the hostess attempted to argue that it must have been the way that we ordered. She asked if we all ordered separate dishes. Although I didn't really know what she meant by that we answered, rather puzzled, that we thought we had and she said, well that that was why it took so long, so that all the dishes could come to our plates together at the same time. We actually pointed out to her that the dishes actually didn't all come simultaneously and she argued with us that she saw all the plates come out at the same time. Despite all this we did leave our waitress a tip, despite pretty sporadic service, as she was nice and we felt that the waitress shouldn't be punished for the rudeness of the hostess. On the way out the hostess said something to me and I responded that we would not be back and she said snidely, ""that's fine."" The whole experience left me fuming especially because my family and I are very easy going, not very confrontational and pretty easy to please. If there had been some acknowledgment at all or apology that would have gone very far, but instead that hostess' attitude was absolutely appalling. Pros: decent food Cons: very rude hostess more
