Fun and educational museum 4/10/2006

For being kind of a smaller museum, Science Works is excellent. They change displays often and have relationships with larger museums that they trade with, so you can expect to have a great time here. I like that there are many "hands on" activities, plus they show films and have discussions about various things. Another plus is that they often bring in groups of local schoolchildren and let them explore the place. My daughters middle school class went on a field trip there recently and I tagged along to help. I was impressed by how friendly and kind the volunteers were to the kids, especially since there were so many of us there that day. It is a great place! Go, learn something and have fun! more

Fun Museum 12/12/2005

Science works is the only hands on museum in ashland and it does a very good job in being the only. They have tons of nifty little exhibits and will amze you with random science for hours on end. They also offer many volunteer positions for people in need of community service hours (mainly highschoolers). The building is interesting in itself and it used to be the old northwest nature museum. The exhibits change often and it never gets old. more

Our Very Own Science Museum! 10/26/2005

ScienceWorks is a fun outing for the whole family. There is a play area for the under three crowd, tons of things for the older kids, and even enough to keep mom and dad happy. The bubble room is great fun - you can blow giant bubbles and even stand inside them. There is usually a fun presentation to watch, and if they have enough volunteers they have a "make it and take it" station open. They do a good job of keeping the displays fresh, so you can come back every couple of months and find something new. We have been to several discovery museums, and ScienceWorks rates among our favorites. The only one we like better is OMSI, in Portland. Another great thing about ScienceWorks is that if you become a member, you can get into about 300 other discovery museums across the country for free. It's a deal we've used again and again and never had any problems with. Definitely worth the price of membership! more
