On Sunday, 1/18/09, at around 2 pm, my wife and I were taking a walk around ""downtown"" Cayucos. We figured we missed the lunchtime rush so we'd have our pick of any restaurant. Schooners, with it's rooftop dining and bar looked inviting. The day was beautiful and we hoped to have a tasty bite of seafood washed down with some great Central Coast brew.
What a joke.
As the small patio was completely filled up we walked into adjacent bar itself.. There was one table left in the corner. We sat down quickly, counting ourselves lucky to have gotten the last table in the place. There was some beer spilled on the table, which we assumed one of the three cute blonde waitresses would quickly clean up.
Man, were we mistaken!
I don't know what was up with this place. It seems like one of those local only hangs where you have to be on a first name basis with the waitstaff or something. Everyone looked like either a sailor, a biker or an alcoholic. Seriously. Maybe our LA-vibe turned people off but NO WAITRESS ever came by. I finally got up after about ten minutes of these bimbo-chicks happily refilling everyone's glasses to ask if we could get a menu, telling one waitress that we were seated in the corner. She looked startled like she couldn't believe anyone had the nerve to be so ""controntational"" and handed me two menus and an alcohol list. The food looked good BUT NO ONE EVER CAME BY. Every once in awhile the bartender would look at us with a smirk as if to say, ""you'll be waiting a long time, Jack"" and the waitresses seemed to be happily chatting with their biker boyfriends but NO ONE EVER SO MUCH AS WIPED OUR TABLE OR ASKED US WHAT WE WANTED TO EAT OR DRINK. We walked out after about 20 minutes.
Funny me, I thought places like this existed to serve customers food and drink and then get money from them as payment. Or am I mistaken? Maybe there was some kind of voodoo that we were missing out on. Either way, I would recommend this place for LOCALS (or masochists) ONLY.
Pros: Nice view of the ocean
Cons: The worst customer service I have ever seen in my life
