Great Place Great Food! 2/15/2011

This place is warm and comfortable low lights which seem perfect for a date. The decor was very cozy. I passed the place a hundred times and never thought It'd be so nice. Although on a Tuesday night the service was great we were greeted by the manager who was extremely nice. Next our waitress came out who was very friendly she took our orders and brought out each course with perfect timing. Everything we ate was totally delectable some dishes was the best I'd ever had. From the bruschetta to the sirloin even the seafood rizzoto which I nabbed a taste from my date was great. I'll be a regular there for years to come! more

Don't Waste your time 5/10/2010

I made reservations at Scaturro's Restaurant for Mother's Day and had the worst service I have ever had in my life. First of all, even though I made reservations, my family and I had to wait about a half an hour. As soon as we were seated, the first thing our waitress said was that the lady who seated us was a moron...very unprofessional. Luckily we ordered right away because that was one of the very few times we even saw our waitress. I understand that mother's day is busy but at 6:00pm, it was not that crowded. We ordered our drinks and did not get them until about twenty minutes later, not to mention that the soda tasted like pure syrup. Along with ordering drinks, my grandmother asked for tea bags and the and waitress said they had none. No lie, about two minutes later I saw another waitress hand another woman at a different table tea bags. I had to ask a bus boy for the tea bags to get what my grandmother wanted. Did this woman forget that it was mothers day, she was too lazy to get a stupid tea bag? The next thing that was annoying was that we sat and waited for bread while every table that came in after us got their bread almost immediately. When we politely asked the man who seemed to be the manager for bread, he pretty much blew us off and walked away mumbling ""yea, it's coming."" This was after he was laughing and having a good time with the table next to us. Thank goodness for the bus boys because otherwise I think we would have been totally ignored the whole night. Our appetizers and soup finally came out by women who weren't even our waitress. The appetizer was delicious but the lobster bisque soup had absolutely no taste. A half an hour later our waitress finally showed her face and asked us if we needed refills...Yes we need refills, we haven't seen you in an hour. As she took our drink orders we got our food and my poor grandmothers steak was cold so the waitress took it away and came back with the same steak, but warmed up...not quite sure how they warmed it up so quickly...While we were eating, the waitress came back with our drinks and gave me a sprite when I ordered a diet coke. I told her this and she told me, ""no you ordered a sprite."" Very rude if you ask me. The best part of the stay at Scatturos was when we finished eating and knew that we were going to leave soon. The waitress came over to me and asked if we needed things wrapped and as I asked who wanted a to go box the waitress said impaitiently, ""I have to go."" Excuse me but this is your job. We haven't seen you all night and when you finally show your face you say you have to go? We were all so happy to leave until we realized that because we had a party of six we had to give this sad excuse for a waitress a 20% tip. This woman got $42.00 for being an ignorant, unprofessional, and rude waitress. How could this restaurant do this to their customers. We didn't even bother complaining to the even more ignorant person who we think was the manager. This restaurant should be embarassed. I will never go to this restaurant again and hope who reads this won't go there either. If you are not a regular attending customer and plan to go to this restaurant for the first time, do yourself a favor and don't go. You will be treated like dirt while the ""regulars"" of the restaurant are treated wonderfully. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!! By the way, why would you keep waitresses that are so bad, I can get better service at a Friendly's. I really hope Scaturro's reads this comment because maybe then they will change their ways. Pros: Bus Boys Cons: Everything else about the restaurant more

Great Food, Poor Service 7/26/2007

The food was great; the service left something to be desired. We went to the restaurant for Farm to Fork week. The Tomato and Mozzarella was great and so was the grilled shrimp over glazed peach. I had the scallops which tasted fantastic, but I was a little disappointed that there were only 4 scallops on the plate (which looked empty) surrounding a little bit of flan in the center of the plate, compared to my wife's big, thick steak (which she loved). On the positive side, this was the first time I had flan and enjoyed it as it was very flavorful. The amaretto peach wasn't that tasty as the peach was sour from being picked too early. \r \r The service on the other hand was extremely slow and inattentive. Half way though our meal, we asked for more water which we never were given. The bus boy came out and literally just dropped our breadbasket in the middle of the table. I wasn't offered refills on my bar drink. \r \r Our dinner guest went to the restroom, which is an interesting walk through the kitchen, and while he was in there, observed a bus boy not bother to wash after using the facilities. Fortunately, he wasn't ours!!\r \r Long story short, while the food was really good overall, I'll look for other options with better service next time.\r Pros: Food is very good Cons: Service is very slow, we were ignored for part of the evening. Wine is overpriced. more

solid food 3/27/2007

I have been to Scaturro?s numerous times. For the most part, they have great food, although I?ve had a few rocky experiences. They make phenomenal sea bass, so light and moist. However, I recently had the sea bass osso bucco during restaurant week and while the fish tasted great, what was the point of leaving the bone on, so I could choke on tiny fish bones that made much of the fish inedible. I get the point of cooking meat on the bone for flavor but I?m totally missing the point as far as fish. While this aspect of the meal was disappointing my ahi tuna appetizer was awesome, as was my chocolate lava cake dessert. Even my salad, which can sometimes be boring was really tasty. Other highlights include their pear, gorgonzola and walnut salad, I?ve had the lamb which was to die for, the scallops are excellent, I had a grilled seafood appetizer one time that was fabulous. A few lowlights include the poorly cleaned mussels which actually broke my tooth, that induced a hiatus of a few months but I eventually came back. I?ve also had some rocky service, once having to beg the bus boy for more cocktails after being completely ignored all night. Other times, I?ve found the service to be pleasant and attentive. Dining here often, I was annoyed at once being seated at the smallest table in the empty restaurant next to a curtain that was clearly going to be in my face all evening, but I asked another bus boy to move and he happily obliged. Sometimes I find the dishes a tad salty and greasy (too much butter) other times they are right on and the whole experience is enjoyable. I personally try to ignore the wacky bar outback with karaoke and loud bands some nights, it?s completely out of character with the relaxed elegant dining room and large wooden bar in the front. Despite a few issues, I think Scaturro?s makes some solid food. more

Best Five Course Meal in SJ 2/22/2007

Amazing is one word I could use to describe my evening at Scaturro?s. This cozy restaurant housed in an old colonial is deceiving. When you walk in through the back (the entrance), a modern porch that stays warm enough in the winter where you would think it was summer all year long complete with a fully stocked bar.\r \r Go to the EVENTS! The Chocolate Decadence Dinner was AWESOME. They will have more wine pairings and cigar pairings in the near future. \r \r Pros: Atmosphere, ambiance, music, drink selection, food, and staff. When we walked in, we were greeted by the guy in the suit, when we were wandering; we were approached by even the busboy trying to help. Our waitress came by several times as well as the guy in the suit to make sure we were doing okay. The chef came out to talk with us. The bartender was great. All around, the people were attentive and personable. You really felt welcome. \r \r I highly recommend this place. Visit their website, scaturros dot com for events or try it for South Jersey?s Restaurant week. It is amazing. My husband and I have vowed to continue to go, so we hope to see you there! Pros: Ambience, service, food Cons: tip was added to bill...it was about 28% more
