Horrible Experience 12/4/2011

Sawatdee's in Maple Grove was my worst dining experience, and is a place to which I will never return. First of all, the customer service was very bad. After ordering, we had to wait for over an hour for our food. At one point, I had asked the waitress for a refill, and never got it; I had to actually go up to the kitchen station in order to get my beverage refilled. However, the worst was when we finally got our food. I had ordered a vegetarian entree, and was served an entree with chicken. I told the waitress, who apologized, and said that they'd redo it. A while later, my food was returned. Instead of cooking a new entree, someone had just picked the larger pieces of chicken out, and there were still small pieces of chicken remaining. I am completely horrified that any cook or service staff would think that this is ok. We talked to the manager, who would have refunded our meal, but because we had used a groupon, there was not much she could do. more

Great Experience 10/17/2011

I had not liked any other Sawatdee after my first experience with the main restaurant on Washington in Minneapolis. I had been to three other Sawatdees and not been impressed. Today was different. I went to the one in Maple Grove for the first time, and it was every bit as wonderful as the original. I had the fresh spring rolls and the Rama Thai Delight. Honestly, one of the best meals I have ever had. If there was any complaint, it is one I have no matter where I order that particular dish, in that their was too much liquid from the steamed spinach. The liquid from the spinach watered down the curry a little. Otherwise, great food, nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. I WILL BE BACK! more

Don't Bother 6/17/2011

Ordered a $8.95 lunch special. \r \r A Thai Noodle Curry with Chicken, tomatoes, mushroom, etc. It took 15 minutes to get served. What I got was a rectangular plate piled high with greasy noodles, one wedge of tomato, and about 2 oz of chicken. Although it had mild curry taste, it was virtually tasteless. Most of the noodles were stuck together in a gloppy mess. \r \r The service was 'disconnected' and slow. \r \r I've had better a microwave dinners! more

Waste of $ 11/16/2008

I decided to come here Sunday night with the family around 5:00 pm, we were the first table seated but the last served, the service is terrible. My parents ordered Pad Tahi and some noodle dish and both were disappointed in the taste. My brother and I ordered sushi so while I watched my parents eat I stared at my sushi from a distance, my order sat on top of the sushi bar waiting for our waitress to pick it up about 30min later I got my sushi but there was no wasabi ot ginger? Come on even the little store bought sushi gives you ginger and wasabi. Then my order and my brother's order was on the same plate? This was a first, but then I thought to myself this is what was expected because when we sat down there was no plates on our table, my mom had to get up and take off another table. Service was bad for and the food was bad and the price is way too high. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Terrible service and food not much better 11/16/2008

Decided to try Thai food, so off to Sawatdee. Got there about 5 PM on Sunday. Sat at booth with no napkins/silverware/plates. Waitress come to take order. Noticed music too loud. Got our drinks. Had to get our own setting from another table. Noticed plates dirty. Ordered Pad Thai, Noodle salad, and variety of sushi.\r After lengthy wait out came Pad Thai, and Noodle salad. Pad Thai was clump of noodles with a few pieces of chicken. Noodle salad had so much cilantro, it was inedible. Both dishes were far from even tasty. Waited on sushi. Waitress came to apologize that the cook did not see order ticket so it would be late. Eventually he made it and the order sat on bar, as waitress seemed to forget about us. Waitress never offered to refill water.\r This was an awful dining experience, and even more so after seeing the bill for $100. I would never eat here again or even recommend to anyone. Service and food was terrible for the price. Avoid this place at all costs!!! Cons: bad food, bad service more

Used to be good, not so much now 6/2/2007

I have been there twice in the last month. The first time they screwed up my order royally. i sent it back and didn't get a replacement for about 20 minutes. Oh and the pad thai was so sub-par I wouldn't even call it pad thai. The second time the waiter couldn't remember our order so I got my spring rolls as more of a dessert. And he blamed the kitchen even though we saw him replace the order after I asked again. And last, the menu has a vegetarian hot and sour soup on it. In the description it says that if you are vegan then you should mention that so they don't make it with chicken broth. That scares me because I'm a vegetarian so I think I'm gambling when I order form there. Pros: near me Cons: food is spotty, service is horrible more

Not so hot! 1/8/2007

I love Sawatdee, but not the Maple Grove location! The service is bad, and the food is really bad... including the fact that they have no idea how to get the spice levels correct. One time I called for a to-go order and asked for it spicy and the lady said they would have to put the spice on the side? Once I got it home there was NO spice anywhere! I totally believe that the Maple Grove location caters to bland suburbanites palletts... stick to the Sawatdee on Hennepin or Downtown! Cons: Bad service and not so ""hot"" food. more

Worst Thai Restaurant Yet 8/9/2006

I dined here a few years ago and thought the food was pretty decent so I came back about a year later (2006) and had the worst Thai food I've ever tasted and we were not seated until after several minutes even when it was more than half empty. The amount of food you get and the taste for the price you pay is a big waste. We ordered Pad Thai that tasted like over boiled rice noodles with over do on the sauce. The half duck we got was overly dry and it tasted like it was left overs thrown into the microwave to heat up. I took the Pad thai home and added water to make it taste better. I will never dine at this Sawatdee ever again. Pros: Nice Location Cons: Everything else more

Aloof and unaccommodating 7/8/2006

I had the worst Thai experience at the Maple Grove location. When the food arrived much spicer than anticipated, our waitress was very defensive and unsympathetic. We were very good sports about the whole thing untill we got the bill and found we were charged $4 for ice in our teas. I have never had to pay for ice before when tears are welling in my eyes. Good luck with this one! Pros: great location if you want to get out of the city for the evening Cons: service, food, extra charges more

Yeah 1/28/2004

I had tried Thai food in Ireland and really liked it, but didn't know where to go in the Twin Cities to eat it. We choose Sawatdee in Maple Grove. They were very helpful when it came to explaining the items on the menu. The food was awesome and not too expensive considering we both got alcohol, appetizers and an entree. Parking was right around back. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for someone wanting to try Thai food for the first time!! more

Good food 12/26/2003

Nice decor, the bar side has a big TV. Try the Thai tea - spiced ice tea with sweetened milk, kinda like Chai tea. My husband had the salad with beef tenderloin - excellent for a summer day. I had the dish with a garlic sauce, recommended by the server, and I chose shrimp with it - also very good, complex and wonderful flavors. I tried the same dish on a different day with chicken and think the shrimp is better. Save room for dessert and get the mango with coconut sweet rice - the best dessert I've ever had. Dishes has choices of spicyness from 1-5, so let your server know. Pros: Good parking, shopping nearby more
