If you want all your fish to die after buying fish from here, buy some fish from this store. If you want deal with a diseased tank several months after all your fish have died after buying fish from this store, buy some fish from here. The people in charge of handling the fish department at this store should be ashamed of themselves for the irresonsible handling of consumer fish. Thanks alot for destroying our long established fish tank. We will be sure to let everyone know. more

Don't buy livestock or water here that should be enough. 11/25/2011

As the one reviewer noted already the salinity that is post and what you are getting is not the same. We are not talking a few hundreds either. If that was it then I could give them a three but we also have not had one fish saltwater fish live more then a week from them (have tried 4 times with 6 fish over two years) we keep trying every six months as we want to like this place as it is super close to our house but...can't get past all fish dying and also one coral. We have no problems with the two other LFS and also when we buy online so we know its not our setup. Its not like we are running a Nano tank we have a 220 gallon 5 year old tank so its not a NOOB issue with their livestock. more

Sick/terrible fish selection 4/16/2011

I have a very well established Angel/Discus tank. I have had 4 Discus and 6 Angels in it for over two years now; I saw some interesting Angels in there and I purchased two large ones. I told the owner the pH of my water was 6.5 steady, and he said that so was theirs in the store. Two days after bringing them home they died, and he refused to give me my money back, even after I brought them a sample of my water (which checked out to be perfect as it is a few year old established aquarium). They do not quarantine their fish at all, and you risk serious injury to your tank if you buy from them - NEVER GO HERE. If you want to buy fish who are GUARANTEED healthy, go to OC Tropical. The owner is very helpful and his fish have all thrived in my tank. more

Experienced knowledable Pet shop 2/16/2011

They are an amazing pet shop that has every animal under the sun. They have helped me with a gecko and now a salt water fish tank. Without them I would have never been able to build and support all the extensive work it takes to run a salt water fish tank. They are willing to answer any question and be there for you all along the way! their my favorite choice for fish as well! more

Sandbar is personally my favorite pet store in OC I have bought all of my saltwater fish and rocks from them. They are very helpful in helping you chose your pets for the size of your aquarium and help with the compatibility of your fish. more

awesome store 12/30/2010

I love this place, they let the puppies move around and have fun unlike most pet stores. Although I would never buy a puppy there (RESCUES ONLY!) it all seems to be very well kept and clean. I have gone in many times just to play with the puppies and look at snakes (I was planning on my buying a cornsnake but was unable to) and it all is very well kept. I applied to work there but no minors allowed to work :'(\r IDK why some people say its dirty or unhelpful.I love it there. Maybe they got the wrong store? more

Sand Bar Pet Shop is knowledgeable with great customer service 1/6/2010

Seven years my first dog with my husband died of cancer. I would visit the pet shop now and then to look at the puppies but couldn't bring myself to get another one. Over the next 2 years the owner would talk to me about the puppies and learned what kind of dog I had that had died and how heartbroken I was to even try again. She asked what breed of dog, the personality I liked in a dog and learned what kind of owner I was then she walk away and let me spend time with the puppies alone. She called one day and said she had a puppy for me to see. I told her no and for the next three times and that I wasn't ready. It had been 3 years by now since my dog died. One Saturday I had to run errands and brought my husband with me. We stopped to visit with the owner since we had become friends and the puppy was still there. The puppy looked me in the eye and she was everything and more than we had wanted in a dog and ended up taking her home. The first year was rough going through my new more

Sand Bar Pet Shop is knowledgeable and has good prices 1/6/2010

In addition to the huge selection of pet supplies, Sand bar . I've compared their prices to other pet stores in our area and they're consistently lower. As you know, pet supplies are becoming more and more I am also impressed with the friendly and caring staff at Sand bar. All the employees I've spoken to have pets of their own, most of them . Their concern for the welfare of animals is obvious and they tend to bend eager to help you find the perfect item for your pet. more

They remember my dog's name every time I go in, they must see hundreds a day, that is amazing. I shop here as much as possible because they are knowledgeable and actually care about my dog, and to support local business. Please shop here and support them, life would be better if more businesses operated like this. more

best place for pups 1/5/2010

This is a great specialty pet store. Not only do they have reasonable prices even v. the national pet stores. Most importantly - they are extremely helpful with ideas on pup eating issues, itching and have even recommended groomers and other services that have worked out well. The owner and all of the employees are very engaged with their customers and know their products. And the pups always get treats when they come in ! more

The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, the products are all health oriented and high quality, and they have a GREAT selection of treats and toys! This place has incredible deals with service to match it. I found a 37gallon fishtank there that was priced at a hundred dollars more at Petsmart. The fish selection is uncomparable, for best selection go they have tons of healthy beautiful fish. Customer service is outstanding because not only will they help you and be knowledgeable when you are looking to buy, but if you have problems with an existing pet or whatnot, they will help you with it. more

Please read If your a Reef keeper! 8/24/2009

I went to sand bar to purchase pre mixed salt water. I never had any serious problems with the salinity being off, but there had been a few times i was lied too. So i asked a store worker to barrow there salinity meeter (Hydrometer), and he refused me the meter and assured me that it was (1.025) when i got home i realized that the water was (1.014) way bellow what i was told! unfortunatly i had allready did the water change in my tank without checking to make sure the salinity was what they claimed. I so i went to my best friends house who also purchased the same water at the same time. I tested it and it made me so mad because i was refused a hydrometer! I should of known there was something fishy when this happend. Sand bar denies having there water this low, but its very obvious that they are just trying to pinch pennys by selling water at a unreasonable salinity. Any other aquarium store ive ever been to sells there salt water at 1.025-1.024 that way they can add fresh r/o to make more

Sand Bar Pet Shop is terrible! 7/26/2009

They cram their birds in small cages. I saw about four big fish tanks there, the rest of the tanks were so small, I would not put my Betta there! Some of small tanks were crammed with fish, plecos and incorporated with oh so small African dwarf frogs! Place is crammed, hot, and smelled awful. Terrible service. Poor quality pet food. more

Sandbar... the most reasonable pet store around 3/25/2009

I have been going to the sandbar pet store since i was young. I have never had any problems with anything purchased there. The owner has been there every time i am in and answer whatever question that i may have to the best of his knowledge. For the reviews that say that they sold them defective fish, turtle, or puppy ..that is just not believable. I have bought too much there and have all the confidence in their ability to sell just as good if not better of animals than all the other pet stores. I was given the price for a bird cage that was not necessary for the size of bird that i had. The owner at Sandbar told me that was too big... We ended up looking at another option. But if i had listened to the other pet store i would have bought a $300 cage intended for a Parrot and my bird could have gotten hurt. These people care about giving the appropiate knowledge and do not under any cercumstance try to over sell. they only show you ideas and they do tell what is necessary for more

Great LFS! 3/20/2009

I go to Sand Bar Pet Shop all the time, while they don't have the biggest store around, they are always willing to put an order out for whatever you're looking for. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. You'll fall in love with all the little animals in the store, especially the puppies!\r \r The aquatic plants I purchased were healthy and vibrant, and did not infest my tanks with snails, which is always a plus. more

Sandbar is part of the last family owned petshops, be thankful! 3/6/2009

I worked at PetTown in El Toro for years. There is something special about locally owned shops. I have purchased many things from the shop, and always try to buy from local businesses. I call for feeder mice and they are always happy to check for me.\r \r It is small, and maybe that is how overhead stays low. \r \r Some of the reviews seem bogus to me, as I have always had a good experience there!! more

A friend of mine bought a rat here recently. He wasnt able to keep her so I have taken her in and I absolutly love her! She is the sweetest thing ever and I owe it all to Sandbar. She is such a good rat im going back to get her a playmate. :] more
