My husband and I have enjoyed the various Sam's Joint Restaurants for over 30 years. The food has always been excellent, the establishments clean and the service exemplary. Not so during our visit to the Caledonia Sam's Joint tonight. We arrived for an early dinner at 5:00 on this Thursday evening and had the dining room to ourselves.
Environment: The odor in this original Sam's Joint is heavy and smells like mold and mildew (like a wet basement smells). We were told it is because of all of the antiques. Perhaps; but, whatever the reason, the odor of the establishment is foul and not conducive to eating.
Food: My chicken wet burrito was not up to Sam's Joint usual standards. The sodium level in the sauce used in this dish was very high - it was almost unbearably salty; the temperature of the food was warm but not hot.
Service: Although the service was friendly and the food was served in a timely manner, two of the employees were setting-up the tables with Bar-B-Que Sauce and Ketchup while we were dining - and included our table. We found this to be extremely rude behavior as it interrupted our conversation and left us feeling as though we, as customers, were not as important as those who were about to arrive.
All-in-all, this was a very disappointing dining experience. Until this restaurant is updated and cleaned, we will not be back, nor will we suggest it to friends as we have in the past. In my opinion you will enjoy your visit at Sam's Joint more if you visit one of their other facilities and not Caledonia.
