Sam's Joint-Coopersville

My husband and I have enjoyed the various Sam's Joint Restaurants for over 30 years. The food has always been excellent, the establishments clean and the service exemplary. Not so during our visit to the Caledonia Sam's Joint tonight. We arrived for an early dinner at 5:00 on this Thursday evening and had the dining room to ourselves. Environment: The odor in this original Sam's Joint is heavy and smells like mold and mildew (like a wet basement smells). We were told it is because of all of the antiques. Perhaps; but, whatever the reason, the odor of the establishment is foul and not conducive to eating. Food: My chicken wet burrito was not up to Sam's Joint usual standards. The sodium level in the sauce used in this dish was very high - it was almost unbearably salty; the temperature of the food was warm but not hot. Service: Although the service was friendly and the food was served in a timely manner, two of the employees were setting-up the tables with Bar-B-Que Sauce and Ketchup while we were dining - and included our table. We found this to be extremely rude behavior as it interrupted our conversation and left us feeling as though we, as customers, were not as important as those who were about to arrive. All-in-all, this was a very disappointing dining experience. Until this restaurant is updated and cleaned, we will not be back, nor will we suggest it to friends as we have in the past. In my opinion you will enjoy your visit at Sam's Joint more if you visit one of their other facilities and not Caledonia. more

food was acceptable, however, sam's normally has a problem with consistency. you might have a good experience once, but the next might be horrible. more

Good: BBQ Chicken strips & Ribs were great! When we told the waitress of the burnt meal, she made it right & compt the customer.. Bad: One customer's meal had been burnt. Waitress never came back to check how everything was so it could be sent back. Rude service - very slow & rude waitress. It took 30 minutes just to get our bill & get it paid. Bathroom was dirty.. Improvements: Cleaner atmosphere, friendlier service, and better food quality.. Other: Want to support local restaurants, but the service here made it hard to want to continue.. more

We decided to go to this Sam's Joint for my mother's birthday. We were excited, we thought we knew what to expect as we go to another Sam's Joint(The Muskegon one) and have not ever had a bad experience. Sad to say, this wasn't the case with this one. My wife and I ordered the ribs and those were delicious. My parents and sister each ordered a wet buritto. They said that the wet buritto was not very good and no where near the Muskegon one. I would recommend going to the Muskegon one over this one if you had a choice. more

This is my very favorite food of all time. I love their pretzel covered mozzarella stix. And of course the barbecue ribs are awesome. I miss that we no longer live closer. They have great food, a full bar, and wonderful service. It’s also nice as an option for banquets or even just larger family get togethers. more
