Salty Paws is the best! 10/1/2008

This is one of the cleanest and nicely decorated vet clinics I've seen. The staff is friendly and caring. My dog has been cared for by the staff since he was a pup and I board him often. They know him by name & take very good care of him. While he doesn't like being left he's not afraid. The outdoor area for the dogs is nice and large and well suited. I wouldn't take my buddy anywhere else! Pros: My comfort level is very high Cons: Parking is sometimes difficult more

Very pet friendly 5/28/2008

My Parents always had at least two dogs in our house at all times when I was growing up so I am no stranger to various vet clinics. I've been to great Vets and really bad ones too. After I moved out and was finally able to get a dog of my own I took him to Salty paws. What attracted me initially was the outside of the building. I was new to Va and didn't have anyone who could recommend a good clinic I could take my new puppy to. Anyways...I have been going to Salty paws now for almost four years and have no real issues with the staff. They have always been very sweet and attentive to my dog. He trusts them and has never had a bad experience going there. I've never had to fight to get him through the door and he is always happy with the staff and they are always happy to see him, and even though we only go for his annual check-up they still remember him which I think is amazing. My only complaint, and the only reason I gave the place four stars, is because I do think the prices are rather high and some of the vaccinations (like kennel cough) I don't necessarily feel that he needs. Other then that I have no real complaints and think that Salty Paws is an excellent place to take my dog. Pros: Staff very friendly and good to my pet Cons: higher priced then other clinics. more

I will not take my pets again 5/26/2008

The vets here and staff were very unwelcoming. They were money hungry and they did not even seem interested in my pet what so ever. My old vet, whom I now returned, at least appeared interested in my pets. I waited for about 25-30 minutes just to pick up my dog. I did find some hidden costs on my bill that I was not aware of. I will not be bringing any of my pets to this hospital ever again or referring this hospital to anyone. more

Excellent and very caring 7/10/2007

My family and I have been taking our little poodles to Dr. Dermyer for years, and never been taken advantage of, or treated with any disrespect. They always treat the ""girls"" like their own, and when our oldest girl ran away...and we found her, they took her in immediately without an appt. and charged us very little. They are a great facility, with even excellent staff. My family and I highly recommend Salty Paws. more

money hungry 6/8/2007

Salty Paws was recommended to me by a neighbor who boards her dog there regularly. Upon entering the place I was very impressed. It was decorated beautifully inside and seemed like a very professional atmosphere. I did call in advance on three separate occassions to double check what my fees would be and procedures for an a walk in vaccination required prior to boarding my maltese for the first time. Once I showed up with all the required documents and spoke with the technician about my needs for the day I was immediately urged to agree to extra procedures (more money). First I was asked to repeat a vaccination that was not expired for three years. After clearing that up, I was told that my dog should be examined because the last shot he had was over a year ago. After explaining that he was recently examined and I was just there for a vaccination that was required for him to be boarded at their facility they took him back, wouldn't allow me into the exam room and 2 minutes later when they brought him out to me they informed me that my bill would be $14.00 extra because they did an examination anyway. Then they had to nerve to ask me if I would like to purchase any flea or heartworm medication. I am not sure if I want to use their services for boarding due to extra hidden charges they may tack on at the end. Plus no one even payed my dog one bit of attention. Most vets offices will at least give him a pat or two. more
