We REALLY enjoyed Salsa's....! A must... 2/7/2009

Friends of ours recommended Salsa's in Asheville during our visit to the Carolinas. We did not get there until minutes before the 3 p.m. lunch closing time. There was another couple also wanting to dine there per their friends' recommendations as well. Pros: Delicious food, very good service, organic healthy, veggie and non veggie entrees Cons: Can't think of any, it is a ""cafe"" decor more

Ugly servcie from a poor excuse of a waitor 12/7/2008

My family and I ate at this restaurant last night. It was highly recommended by a friend. We recieved poor service from our waitor who was not proffesional to say the least. The food was not that good, we ordered water to drink, and that's what we got, warm tap water with no ice. We left 4 full plates of food on the table and had to go to McDonalds afterwards to get food that we could eat. When we were ready to go we paid our bill $66.05. We walked out into the street and our waitor walks out behind me and yells to me. ""Hey, are you trying to make a Point!"" Pros: Didn't have to wait for a table. Pretty obvious why after we got there Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE more

Not what it used to be 10/18/2008

I lived in Asheville until 2000 and Salsa's was always my favorite restaurant. I return to Asheville every year and Salsa's is always the one place I am sure to visit. Two weeks ago my husband and I had lunch there and were extremely disappointed. We ordered the chicken nachos which normally are huge and piled high fresh tortilla, yucca, and taro chips, and unusual ingredients with eclectic and exotic flavors. What we got this time was a sad plate of nearly toppingless chips that were too big to eat without breaking up. The chicken looked like the precooked steamed chicken from Quiznos and was completely void of flavor. There was a glop of pureed black beans, a small amount of shredded cheddar cheese (usually there was goat cheese or monterray jack, etc), and two small dollops of salsa. The salsa did taste like what I remembered but there was so little of it we mostly ended up eating plain chips. Plus the nachos were $9! Normally that would have been a deal but this was awful. We had planned to order entrees as well but after the poor appetizer and the grumpy waitress we sadly paid our bill and left. I am terribly disappointed and don't plan on returning. What happened? I took a cooking class once with the owner (around 2000) and he prided himself on locally grown ingredients from seeds he had brought back from his native country. These nachos didn't contain a trace of anything fresh aside from the tiny bit of salsa. I hope they go back to the way things used to be or that this was simply a VERY off day for them. Pros: funky ambience Cons: flavorless, toppingless nachos more

Well worth the wait! 1/12/2007

I've eaten dinner at salsa's many times - each time waiting anywhere from 2 minutes to an hour - but it's ALWAYS been worth the wait. Start with their house margarita - fresh citrus blend of flavors, not sickenly sweet, way too easy to gulp down. I have rarely eaten off of their regular menu - they have a Fabulous and extensive list of specials that have alway been fabulous. We recently had an empanada filled with perfectly cooked lamb, complex and delicious curry and spicy flavor. A mahi mahi special was perfectly cooked with a delicious mango salsa. Appetizers are also good - a regular item we often get are spliff rolls - crispy shell filled with crab. I have never had dessert here, don't even know if they offer it. The ambience is bright, colorful, loud, and fun. The service is good, though sometimes a bit harried. On a busy night, you can wait a while for food. Pros: Fusion food Cons: BUSY on the weekends - can be a long wait more

Great Mexican/Caribbean food 10/22/2006

Originally stopped by on a Friday night for dinner but it was too busy so instead went Saturday for lunch. This was some of the best food I've had in a while....I had the special pork fajita. I cant wait to go back to Asheville to eat here again. Although this place is probably always busy, trust me its worth the wait. If you're visiting Asheville, this place is a must for lunch or dinner...or both. Pros: great tasting food Cons: the wait to be seated, small, cramped "bar" area more

Flies, flies, flies 8/10/2006

Food was so-so. Fish special was overcooked, other entree ok. Flies everywhere, manager and waitress admitted ""they are always a problem."" Service poor, waitress attitude was flippant. Plunked bottles of soda down without straw or glass, needed 2 requests to get glass. When complained to the manager about poor food and flies in food his attitude was, ""if you don't like it you don't have to come back."" Needless to say, we won't go back! Pros: convenient to downtown Cons: Flies everywhere, poor service, so-so food more

Best fusion food ANYWHERE 7/9/2006

My boyfriend and i stumbled into salsa on a random trip to asheville becuase it was the only place open and oh what a find! the food was the most amazing blend of mexican, cuban and caribbean. what wonderful and unexpected flavors that were still so familiar and satisfying. needless to say we often make the 3 hour trip to asheville from columbia, sc where we now live to eat at salsa (hate to say it but sometimes multiple times a day when we are in town.) I've been all around the world but this is by far the best food i've ever had, go figure! highly recomended...enjoy!!! Pros: the most wonderful fusion food you've ever had Cons: the tables are a little close so watch what you say...you're neighbor hears it all! more

Hearty Portions, Terrific Service 7/3/2006

What a gem! We visited Salsa on July 3 at the tail-end of the lunch rush, wrote our name on the list, and waited about 15-20 for a table. Despite it being very hectic, the server greeted us with a smile. We ordered the hibiscus tea--this is a must-try! My husband had the organic chicken empanadas and I had the organic chicken enchiladas. Both had avocados, onions, pinto, and black beans, cheese...the works. Both dishes were incredible. I ended up coming home with half--they don't skimp. Salsa was an all-around great experience for us...especially after visiting Thai Basil the night before (ugh!). Pros: Colorful Ambience, Superb Service, Great Value Cons: Crowded Seating more

W-O-W!!! 6/26/2006

This place is just plain delicious. I had the organic chicken empanadas and they were such a medley of delicious flavors that i almost still can't believe it. I would bet that the vast majority of dishes here are superb. Pros: Delicious food, location Cons: annoying waitress that you can't understand more

The best salsa in the world! 6/1/2005

I absolutely love eating here. The salsa is the unique. The servings are large (I usually have to take half of mine home!) with a variety of flavors in every bite. The only bad thing is I've gotten there too late in the evening and the salsa is all gone. They are also closed on days I've wanted to go! Pros: excellent food!!, good for you food Cons: hard to find parking, not open 24/7 :) more

Don't Miss This One! 4/13/2004

Salsa's is one of my favorite restaurants in the world! The dining experience is unusual, to say the least. One doesn't expect a 4-star plate in such an eclectic place. Beautiful food and the best hot sauce on the planet. Pros: beautiful plated food, excellent flavors, fabuluous hot sauce more
