I've been getting my hair cut by Nina for over a decade and I always get compliments on my cuts. I show her a few pictures, she looks at my face, asks me how much styling I'm willing to do -- and she ends up giving me an awesome cut. And her cuts always grow out really well -- even if I don't get my hair cut/trimmed for 3 months, my hair still looks good. Sure, it is not an upscale place, but you can't beat the price and the location (I live in Brookline and it just down Beacon St. for me). Even when I moved away, I'd wait to visit Brookline (and Nina) to get a haircut. I just depends on what you are looking for. If you want a reliable cut -- go to Nina. But if you want the whole experience, lots of pampering, etc -- then you are better off paying a pretty penny on Newbury St.
Pros: dependable, appts available, great value
Cons: not upscale, don't expect to be pampered
