My Worst Nightmare! 1/1/2007

Originally my hair was light brown with ash blonde highlights. I was scheduled with Christy Lee for a partial foil/haircut. I showed her a picture of Jessica Simpson. I specifically stated that I wanted ash shades of blonde - not ""brassy"" warm tones. Bleach was left on my hair for an 1hr and 40 mins. My scalp was burning - she told me that was normal. At the end, when I looked in the mirror I wanted to cry! I literally felt sick to my stomach. She had stripped my color and toned it reddish-orange, my eyebrows were non-existing (bleached), and my scalp was irritated. I told her I was unhappy with the results-she angrily responded ""I did what you wanted. It's not my fault you don't like it"". I told her that it looked NOTHING like the picture! Here's the thing-All of my coloring was bleached out and I didn?t even look ?normal?. Christy told me she did not have time to fix it (even though we had skipped my haircut). I asked for any stylist to fix it because I was too embarrassed to leave. I was forced to pay and leave the salon without any help. I called later-Jonathon (manager) was supposed to return my call-never did-when I called back I was told ?he left for the day?. I expected more from a ?supposedly? high-end salon . I called Salon Marc Harris in Boston and was offered to go back to Christy (wouldn?t let her groom my dog) or go to Boston-Janet (wonderful) who did her very best to fix my hair (took 3 hours-I had to pay full price). If a stylist has difficulty listening to a client (even with a picture!), is confused about warm/cool tones, and refuses to help--it?s a sign of incompetence. I?m extremely disappointed by the services provided and the way I was treated. I have yet to speak with a manager (regardless of my attempts) or receive compensation (I was told I would be refunded). Other stylists agreed that the orange color and bleached eyebrows did not look ""normal"". You can imagine the damage to my hair, the embarrassment, time & money this cost me. exceeded expectations 10/4/2006

i went to salon marc harris after reading a review here on citysearch, and it was worth every penny. i got my hair done by alyson, and it is the best coloring job i've ever had. the entire staff was so kind and welcoming, and yet the atmosphere was very sophisticated and professional. i was having a hard time settling on a salon in the providence area, and now i can say the search is over! i am definitely going back. more

Fabulous 8/31/2006

I don't normally write reviews and that is probably because very rarely do I find a service this good that makes me want to tell the world. I have difficult hair to cut and have been to many top quality stylists .But never has anyone cut my hair like this. I LOVE my hair again. Alyson does a standout job with my color and Jonathan does the cuts. He is precise, focused, and driven to make sure his cuts are the very best for me. As a manager, he is focused and attentive to everyone's needs. The Salon is hip but not pretentious. I pay a bit more than the other salons I have been to, but I have never been happier which is priceless. My haircut looks like it came from a page in a magazine and no one so far can touch his skill. more

Great atmosphere, great experience every time! 8/18/2006

I've been going to Salon Marc Harris since its opening and it has the look and feel of a hip, urban hair salon without the usual unfriendly staff or vibe you usually find at trendy salons. I see Christy Lee every time and she is fantastic - always knows what will look best on me with my cut and color and better yet knows exactly what she's doing! I recommend the salon if you are looking for the perfect mix of a friendly, chic place that has experiended staff who are up on all the latest trends. They also now have validated parking available in a garage right next door which is helpful because they are located downtown where parking can sometimes be difficult to find. more

Very professional salon. Great addition to downtown Providence. The salon itself is also very cool. You also have the opportunity to do a little shopping in nearby stores that offer something a little differenct from the usual mall offerings. Pros: Has the feel of a big city salon. Cons: Parking can be a little tricky if you don't know the area but it's worth the effort. more

Unfortunately, the salon did tell me that my appt was in the system, but was not able to offer anything other than a 'sorry' as I walked out the door. Having relocated from Manhattan, where competition drives skill and customer service... it is so sad that Providence cannot maintain an upper echelon salon. Someone from MH Boston better head south and reign in the business, clearly what is happening here is bad for the local customers downtown, not to mention the MH brand. more

Great Place 7/11/2006

I went to Salon Marc Harris for the first time recently and loved it. I work downtown, so the location is perfect for me, but more importantly I loved the cut and the stylist. She was friendly, knew what she was doing and explained why she thought a different cut would work better for me. She was right! I haven't walked out of a salon and been that happy with my cut and color in a really long time. Two thumbs up! more

Yikes, I just read the "overpriced" review and can't believe we were at the same salon! I found the people at Salon Marc Harris to be friendlier than many other salons I've been to. I've been trying to find a stylist I really like since mine left the area and have bounced around to different places. But I found my guy! I went to Jonathan Williams and he is fantastic. I'm a low-maintenance hair girl and he gave me a cut that I love and is easy to take care of. I have received a ton of compliments from family, friends and co-workers and I tell them all about Jonathan at Salon Marc Harris. Pros: Service, experience, personalities more

Overpriced, technically weak 5/13/2006

I arrived for my appointment with an alleged ""senior stylist"" on time, but I had to wait over a half hour to get in the chair. There was no compensation (i.e., discounted haircut price, complementary product etc...) offered for my inconvenience. The cut was technically inferior. I could have received the same cut, or probably a better cut, at a far less expensive salon. This salon charges prices comparable to NY, Chicago, and Boston...without the talent or sophistication of the aforementioned cities. Take your money to Boston or NY. This salon will not succeed based on the talent and prices. The owner should have studied the financial demographics of RI a little more carefully before coming up with these prices...Eddy St will NEVER be Newberry St, Michigan Ave, or 5th Ave! Disappointment! more
