I have been a client of Julie's at Salon Kroma in Cary for many years and when I leave her chair I feel absolutely beautiful each and every time! If you have long hair and like to see it bounce, shine, curl and display just the right color AND highlights then you should see Julie! Super men's haircut. I've been going to them for 4+yr's or longer and have always had a great haircut. They know how to cut hair,I could go to a barber and spend $8 dollars but with my super thick hair you need a professional for my hair and they are consistant every time. \r The other plus is the staff. They are always courteous and make me feel comfortable in a salon full of beautiful women running around... The one thing I love about Salon Kroma is the friendly and courteous staff that greets me at every appointment. It feels like a breath of fresh air. The stylist's station was always clean and the stylist professional.\r \r I am very particular about a stylist for many reasons. For one I work nights and have two kids, so its not always easy for me to get appointments and line up a babysitter. So when I can count on someone it feels very much like a luxury. But increasingly I have noticed that my cut and style are not exactly up to par. While I understand texturizing and love it, the layers on one side are 1/4' inch off. It's rather blunt and doesn't blend throughout. \r \r While I also appreciate that it doesn't cost me a ""ton"" to get a cut and blowdry, there is something to say about receiving something you can work with between appointments. I'm not going to name names because often critiques that just rant and rave do nothing. I also think no one learns from them. \r \r I think the stylists at Salon Kroma have a lot to offer. That being said, the biggest compliment any stylist can get is when one of their clients is complimented by strangers when asked "" who does your hair."" I use to get those compliments when I first started going to Salon Kroma, but not anymore.\r more

I have been going to this salon for many years and their services are always reasonable and consistently excellent. Prior to going to Blake and Sandy at this salon, I had a lot of difficulty with getting predictable good results with color and it was frustrating. At Salon Kroma the color is perfect every time, looks natural, and my hair is healthy! I couldn't ask for a better salon. The staff is attentive and courteous. more

I would rather walk across a bed of broken glass than return this salon! Run in the other direction and save yourself a LOT of $$$$$ more

The styilist owner and receptionist were so incredibly sweet it's hard to give less than 5 stars but there were a couple of things that could have made it much better. I called earlier in to day and asked if i could get a dimensionsal full head color with a cut and style appointment in that day. I knew it was a long shot so I told the receptionist if it was too much, I was looking for at least the full head dimensional color. She told me she'd check and confirmed the whole request was doable a couple hours later. I went in for my appointment and the receptionist greeted me with a great big smile and directed me to my stylist. I don't want to name names here as I more want them to use this for improvement than to single anyone out considering how sweet they are. For my haircut, which was slightly below the shoulder when I came in, I asked for an angled bob. I told her a liked a dramatic angle. When I explained to her that I wanted allover highlights and lowlights, she told me she didnt have time for a full color. I told her I asked for this on the phone but she was not informed apparently. This was very disappointing considering I'd already arranged my baby sitter and that's hard for me to do. The color was the only thing I really was specific about on the phone and wouldnt have made the appt if they couldnt do it. Reluctantly I told the stylist ok then just get as many highlights in as she could. She was really sweet and kept the conversation going the entire time. She and the receptionist were both so friendly he whole time that I was over whelmed by their kindness and on the way out, I didn't notice that there was no angle to my short bob which was the second whammy bc was it short all around and I only gave only for the back to be that length. I specifically said I wanted to keep the length in front. Unfortunately, despite my 4 stars and how incredibly comfortable I was at this salon, I would personally not be able to return here. more

I have not been to a salon since 1984, After many, many disappointments with haircuts, I took on the task of cutting my own hair since then. Always having a short cut, I decided to grow out to a more sophisticated bob. From the time I made the appointment, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Based on what my needs were and my hair type she set an appointment with Jackie. I was comfortable with Jackie right from the start. She took a lot of time with me before beginning the process. She understood what I wanted and I felt comfortable with her expertise. I was not disappointed. I could not have been more pleased. She was just the best. After 2 days, my hair still looks great!!! I have found someone who understands, listens and delivers a great haircut. I can't wait to go back for trims. Jackie is the best!!! I would highly recommend this salon - it rates an A++ in my book . more

I have been to the salon once before and received great service from Blake (who is awesome!!), even though she had to deal with my curly hair! This time I had a different stylist, Alisha, and my experiance was, well, eh. I was having blue highlights put in and the way she paneled them you can't even see them. I did tell her that I Never part my hair, but she paneled for a part (something I did not realize until after I left the salon). The darker tones of blue were supposed to ""lighten up"", something that didn't happen even though I have shampooed more than I do in a month. Also, my hair is very curly and she kept pulling it-leaving me with a splitting headache. Again, I'd recommend Blake to anyone; she's gentle and knows exactly what you want! more

Tried salon kroma after receiving a tip from a friend and I could not be happier. Blake did a fantastic job listening to my concerns and what I was looking for- she made some suggestions for my fine hair which allowed my hair to look fuller. The Graduated concave bob she gave me was by far the best I have ever received. The compliments kept on coming from my friends to my husband, who doesnt even like short hair. I was so pleased that I listened to my friend, tried the salon and was paired up with the talented Blake. (check out the bathroom while you are there...it is very nicely decorated...just like the rest of the salon.) more

I have naturally curly/wavy hair, medium texture, that really just needed some love. I've been going to another pretty high-end salon in Cary for quite some time, but I always felt kind of awkward with my relatively shy stylist, and the fact that she never works on weekends was inconvenient for me. I'm always adventurous with scissors, and a few months back i decided to give myself some side bangs. I did a pretty good job, but the time had come for me to hand over the shears to someone who knew what he was doing. Anyway, I called Salon Kroma thanks to the great reviews, and got an appointment for about 20 minutes later. I got there and met Gene, a laid-back guy who is very friendly and talkative. He asked me what I wanted him to do with my hair, how much I wanted cut off, etc. He spent about an hour and fifteen minutes working on my hair, so I felt like my haircut was actually important to him rather than him rushing through it. I'm very particular with how I style my hair, and I had to go somewhere after my cut so I couldn't go home and re-style it, so I told Gene I wanted to do something different with it. To my relief, he wasn't offended or anything, and had no problem handing over the straightener and letting me (and the awesome receptionist :D) get it to where I liked it. Well today is day two of having it cut, and I can honestly say I'M OBSESSED WITH IT! It's so light, and my curls are beautifully accentuated and bounce around happily. I will definitely be returning to Gene for my next cut. He and the entire Salon Kroma staff are really great people who are good at what they do. more

Since moving here almost 2 years ago my hair has been through hell and then some. I have had 2 horrific haircuts and 1 that I thought was ok, until I got home and took a hard look and realized the idea was good but the execution wasn't. So, 8 months ago, after my 2nd horrid haircut, I started considering just letting my hair grow and grow and maybe one day I'd be in the Guiness Book of World Records. But, I'm a professional, who is on the go and my long , thick hair which I have a lot of needed some shape. So, I spent the last 2 weeks reading reviews and researching salons. Kroma kept popping up and it was super close to my work and therefore close to my house. I read a few reviews about Gene and thought he could be the man for the job. So, I called to make an appointment on a Saturday morning and was willing to go in and at least get a trim while I felt the place out. I was really excited when the receptionist said that Gene had an opening at 3:00 this afternoon. I booked it and off I went. The salon was open, the receptionist friendly and I was a little early but Gene was right on time. He was super friendly, he listened to what I wanted and I felt at ease immediately. Since I trained to be a stylist and was one all through college, I'm a picky person, but I got an immediate feeling that he had it under control. I didn't want to lose a lot of length, and I didn't. I wanted movement and lightness back in my hair and it's totally there! I can't stop looking in the mirror and I texted a picture to my mom (my biggest hair critic) and she loved it. If you are looking for someplace friendly and for a new stylist, Kroma is the place and Gene is the man! I even booked my next appointment for highlites in 2 weeks while I was there. The poster who said she was impressed with the time he took was right on! It was so nice to not feel rushed and that he really took the time to make it perfect. I also got the chance to see others coming and going and everyone's hair looked great and the other customers looked really pleased. I love the fact that I can't stop looking at my hair! I'm even psyched to wash and style it on my own! more

Salon Kroma is the Best! I have been a client at Salon Kroma Cary for years! I am never unhappy. I have been to many places across this country because my job has taken me to some far away places and I have been known to wait to get back to Salon Kroma Cary to get my hair done. I don't trust many people, but Blake is the best. Shana even did my hair for my wedding a couple years ago. My entire wedding party went there, we had the salon packed. Love all the girls there! Keith at Salon Kroma was my stylist for years after a friend told me who cut her hair. Does anyone know where Keith went or his last name? I had been hilighting my hair for several years myself and wanted to get it done by a professional. On our first visit he set the tone of our partnership with a great cut and color at a reasonable price. Even how he stylied it was great. I could go out from there without having to redo my hair. Then I moved out of state in 2007 and have gone thru at least 6 other hairstylists since then and NONE of them have the skills that Keith had. I know Keith was a Master Sylist and it showed. The salons where I live now could never give me the right color...too blonde or too dark, the products used made your hair stink for several days/brittle, etc. They have this concept to have a separate person to wash your hair rather than your stylist. Doesn't let the stylist know how your hair reacts to washing, needing condition or not, etc. And they can't even style my hair like Keith did. The last 2 times I went to my ""current"" stylist she had to ask the owner what color she should use on my hair....the first time I asked her to write down what she had done and she said she did but someone must have taken the card. I recently relocated to NC and searched everywhere looking for a great salon, so, of course I read all the reviews for Salon Kroma and scheduled my appt with Shana, who is very sweet. However, my cut and color took 4.5 hrs for average work. When I left I was charged $280 total, when I was quoted no more than $150 (this does not include tip) I have never paid this much, and have been to many really high end salons, with stylist that have a great deal more experience. The good part was, after two days of living with the color, I felt that it was still too dark, so Shana did fix it, adding more highlights, and did not charge me. Overall, my experence was pleasant, did not like how long it took or the price. I would probably not recommend or go back in the future. Pros: Fixed the color Cons: Average work, not great more

I have been going to Salon Kroma for about nine months. I went there after receiving a makeover from O magazine. I was looking for someone who could keep up my new celebrity color and cut. I found more than that! Shana has been great. I constantly get compliments on my color (which we have adjusted slightly from the makeover color) and she does an awesome job cutting my curly (and yes, ethnic) hair. To me, a good hair cut is one that can grow out and still look good. I can wear it curly or straight. I highly recommend Shana. Pros: Great Haircuts, Beautiful Color, Consistent Cons: None! more
