Upon being seated the waitress informed my boyfriend and I that they were out of several kinds of beer as well as buffalo wings and scallops. My boyfriend found a piece of rubber ...

delicious microbrews 4/29/2010

Somehow I've been the the Salem Beer Works a good number of times but never to the Boston Beer Works (and I'm always in Boston). I love this one though, even if I don't like to frequent Salem all too often, and if it's not too out of the way from where you live I would definitely suggest it. I don't really know since when, but Salem has become this little hipster scene where the square actually holds a lot of fun places to go on any given night (Thurs-Sat being most popular, obviously). The Tavern on the Square is about a block down from the Beer Works, and both are a good time. The Tavern just gets crowded really fast so I prefer the Beer Works, but most importantly for their microbrews. Pales and ambers are my favorite, so just ask the bartender/waiter for their recommendation if you're not sure what to get. Also, even though I really hate fruity beers, they apparently have a good selection of tasty blueberry and watermelon beers on season (if you're in to that stuff...). Also their appetizers are just fine, and given the fact that you'll want to come here in a decent to large sized group they're a good price (I like the nachos, pretty standard but they come in a large portion). All in all, if you love beer and love a good time, this place is just right. Pros: delicious microbrews! Cons: parking can be a hassle more

Beer Works is the best restaurant ever! 10/28/2009

I have been going here every week for three years, and have never had a problem! Great burgers! Pros: Burgers Cons: Nothing more

Good food, great beer 10/10/2008

North Shore Light. This beer is just right. I am not a very good beer drinker but this one is smooth and goes down nice. I like ordering a haddock sandwich and requesting that they change it out for salmon. Everytime they have been more than happy to do it. I add my coleslaw to the sandwich and it is yummy. The burgers are very generous in portion and good flavor. The mexicali chicken quesadilla was delicious too. I've been to Salem Beer Works and Boston Beer Works on a number of occasions and really feel like they offer an excellent menu, generous portions, and a decent value. Pros: Generous portions, good food Cons: No complaints here more

Not worth the price 9/5/2008

Upon being seated the waitress informed my boyfriend and I that they were out of several kinds of beer as well as buffalo wings and scallops. My boyfriend found a piece of rubber in his clam chowder. My meal included a below average chicken sandwich ans fries that weren't worth eating. Definitely not a meal worth $40. On the upside the beer that they did have was good. Pros: Beer was good Cons: Out of many things on the menu, food wasn't very good more

Great beer, great veggie burgers, decent ambience 1/5/2006

I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and had the best veggie burger of my life at Salem Beer Works this past August.--piled high with ripe avocado and fresh veggies. My husband and I have been there several times since. I really enjoy the beer sampler since it gives me the opportunity to try four of their microbrews at a time! My only complaint is that, as a couple, we are often seated next to very large, noisy tables. In fact, the last time we ate at Salem Beer Works (a Tuesday night), the waitress pulled a four-person apart to make 2, 2-person tables...I was forced to sit 6-inches from another couple along the same bench! It was like riding the T while paying 40$ for dinner. We were not happy. We asked to be re-seated but were told the restaurant lacked enough waitstaff to spread us out from the other patrons. Pros: Great veggie food, Beer sampler, Decent prices Cons: Seating Not Optimal, Can be very crowded more

Fun! 7/26/2005

Some of the best, most interesting beer around. The blueberry ale is awesome. The cherry bomb takes some getting used to but I would recommend it to the adventuresome drinker. The watermelon Ale and the seven gables golden are mild, great choices. The food is basic but really great. Cheese fries, chicken wings and pesto pizza are some of my favorites. The restaurant is large so for the most part finding a seat is not a problem. Great for a late night quick beer or for a group of friends. more

Blueberry Beer Good Food Bad 6/3/2005

Walking into Salem Beer Works I expected a large selection of beers to choose from. Perhaps this was my poor assumption. I was surprised by the short beer list. I did however enjoy the blueberry beer I ordered. My food was awful. I ordered an entree salad with chicken and would rate it the worst salad I've ever had in a restaraunt. I enjoyed the set up of the restaraunt and surroundings but would not return due to the poor food and short drink list. Pros: ambience Cons: food, slim selection more

Best beer on the north shore of boston 6/13/2004

Been going to the Salem Beer Works for years and have always left 100% satisfied. The beer is always fresh and seasonal and there is always something to suit every beer drinkers tastes. I recomend the North Shore Light.Summer beers that i recomend are the Watermelon Ale and Patriot Pilsner. And anything on the food menu is great. The service is always fast, friendly with a smile and attentive and the bartenders are very helpful and knowledgeable about the beers brewed on the premises.October is the only time of year where you will have a long wait time with getting a table or seat at the bar and definitely a problem for parking as the parking garage is usually full and street parking is limited but thats the only time of the year parking is a problem.there is pretty much something for every one so in my eyes this place is a 10! Pros: inexpensive, great atmosphere, always fresh beer more

BeWitching!! 11/26/2002

Salem Beer Works as the best burgers and fries on the North Shore. Their selection of beer is fabulous, I highly recommend the Bluebeery Ale. The service is always top notch, and when it is not October, seating is immediate! Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty Beer, Delicious food Cons: Parking only okay, Crazy in October more

  • In Short
With the same menu and atmosphere as those of its two sister locations in Boston, the Salem Beer Works provides locals and tourists with a relaxed hangout. Beer fans enjoy award-winning microbrews, and those looking to nosh select from a lengthy, eclectic menu (sweet-potato fries, pizzas made with brewer's grain dough). With lots of seating (there's a seasonal patio) and plenty of TV screens, this is a good spot to catch a game.
