Very good Sushi 11/29/2010

I am not one to normal write reviews, but after reading the 2 horrible reviews below, felt I need to set the record straight. I have not eaten Sushi all over the country, but have eaten it all over the Mid-south. Yep that does not make me the expert, but by far this is the best in the area. The rolls are great. The staff have always been very professional and have provided great service. It is my favorite by far. more

A Gem in Germantown 9/7/2010

I hesitate to write this review because its already hard enough to get into this place on a busy night! I've been eating here now for over a year and I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys sushi. Travelling for business I have been fortunate to eat in some really good sushi restaurants around the country and It seems that I always end up telling the people I'm with about our own great sushi place here in G-town. I suggest the Joyce, Alfredo, and Volcano rolls but there are many other excellent choices. more

Great Sushi 8/16/2010

My husband and I almost didn't eat at Sakura because of the 2 negative reviews. We are convinced that these reviews were written by a disgruntled ex-employee or a competitor. Those reviews really should be ignored. We ate at Sakura Saturday night and it was amazing. The best sushi that we have had in Memphis. We loved it so much we went back today and took friends. They also loved it. The portions are huge for the price. All the food was very fresh. Between Saturday and today we were able to try the Joyce roll, Mango roll, Sakura roll and Sunset roll all of which I would recommend. I can't wait to go back and try something different! more

Don't forget your antibiotics 5/24/2010

We turned to this nearby restaurant when our regular, Tao, decided to close on Mondays. The interior could easily be out-matched by any Chinese buffet, and although some of the greatest restaurants have thought of everything but the decor, this was clearly not the case. The dumplings were soggy, food arrival was staggered and awkward, and the dismal presentation was rivaled only by the appalling taste and quantity of sauces intended to compensate: My friend's beef Sukiyaki looked like dog food at a homeless shelter; the Yakisoba resembled cheap Lo Mein; and predictably, the best thing at the table was fried. The salmon sashimi could have been better carved with an axe. If you want Sushi of this caliber, go to an actual 'Chinese' buffet and save some money, or get something made for humans at Fresh Market. As for me, I paid the bill, went home, and took some Pepto Bismol. Pros: Conforms well to Memphis' low standards Cons: Slow, inauthentic, dirty more

sakura- when american mediocrity is ur expectation 11/22/2009

my boyfriend and i tried sakura at the recommendation of a friend. what a waste of time and $$. the restaurant's interior resembles a cheap Chinese diner and not a sushi restaurant. the food was priced moderately for the portions received but the rolls consisted of a hodge podge of random ingredients that did not compliment each other well drowning in generous amounts of sauces. after a bite or two every roll tasted the same. they do not offer fresh wasabi and i refilled my own glass of water three times. it took about 2 hours for 3 rolls and i felt like i was sitting in a daycare. this is obviously the family sushi place. don't waste your money. Pros: short wait on friday night Cons: food service and atmosphere more

Best Sushi in the COUNTY 8/21/2008

This is simply hands down the best sushi in the entire Memphis area. I only wish they would open a location in Downtown Memphis to show the other losers what good sushi can be like! Alfredo roll and Joyce roll totally rock and all the fish is fresh. I also totally love the squid salad! Please open Downtown!! Pros: Tons of great roll and sushi selections Cons: Too far from my home to go every night more

Best Sushi in Memphis by far with great variety and large portions and very fresh! 7/2/2008

Outstanding Sushi and rolls Highly recommended we drive 40 minutes to this fine Japanese eatery at least twice a month! May I suggest the Mango roll(in season),Caterpillar roll and Mardi Gras roll. They have like 40 kinds of rolls and there sushi platter dinner is good too nice thick pieces of fish. Last but least got to try there mermaid salad it's delicious.Everything is very fresh and well made. Pros: Average atmosphere not expensive for what you get rolls are huge and delicious Cons: trying to find parking at times and not closer to my house or I would go more lol more

best Japanese in Germantown/Collierville 1/25/2008

Great size portions for the price and very fresh. They offer both cooked and raw options. Not fancy, a good place to bring well behaved children. Pros: food Cons: not open on Sundays, sometimes parking is difficult more

Best Sushi In Memphis!!! 9/15/2007

If you haven't been to Sakura, you must go. It is the best Sushi in the Memphis area. I went to college in Jackson, TN where the original Sakura is located and I ate there all the time. Since graduating and moving to East TN, I have been looking for a sushi resturant that could even compare. Recently moved to Memphis and found out there was a Sakura here and I could not be happier. Again, you must go. Once you have tried this place, no other place can compare. I recommend the Joyce roll and the crawfish roll. Amazing!!! Pros: Great sushi, good price, fast service Cons: Can be hard to find, look behind the Wendy's on West more

Excellent casual Japanese 12/31/2006

My wife and I really enjoyed our first visit to Sakura. The Sushu rolls were excellent. The Salmon nigiri was the best that I have ever had in the memphis area. Pros: Sushi Cons: Atmosphere is boring more

Maybe there's hope in Memphis 9/24/2006

We have a tough time finding decent and perhaps upscale food (upscale does not mean high price !) food in the Memphis MSA. Memphis just doesn't have much. This place is located in a nice suburb of Germantown, east of the city of Memphis- even Germantown does not have many places besides chain cra*p, but SAKURA is excellent, it has no competition because everybody seems to serve bs food because it gets accepted easily ! this place is a pleasure to visit, owners with great attitudes, great service, and fresh food, what's not to like about that ? Pros: good location Cons: there's no competition in the neighborhood ! more

YUM-O 8/9/2006

Best sushi in town!!! Joycee roll is to die for. I crave it...that's how good it is. Staff is excellent. They always warn you that it take quite a few minutes to make the Joycee roll. I appreciate their hospitality. I will drive all the way to Germantown every day just for Sakura sushi!!!! Pros: value and freshness Cons: the drive more

Best nigiri and tied for best rolls in Memphis area! 8/4/2006

Very good and creative rolls, and the quality (freshness) of the nigiri/sashimi is very good. Prices are very good and the portion sizes are large. Good service. Highly recommended! more

Xtreme creative specialty rolls 12/14/2005

Pacific Rim was my favorite sushi spot until finding Sakura again out in Germantown. Great place for eight+ piece rolls, very reasonably priced. It looks expensive until you realize just how much food you are getting per roll. More specialty rolls than I have seen anywhere else, try the Joyce and Sake rolls... Pros: selection, price, service Cons: location more

Other s0-called upscale Memphis restaurants LOSE 11/5/2005

Some other Memphis restaurants should take notice about this place ! Just great innovative adn fresh food and great sushi as well. If other newcomers to Memphis are sick and tired of bad Mexican, lousy chain food, and other chains like P.F. Chang which masquerades as 'Chinese', then just go to Sakura in Germantown. Thank god Germantown has something that's not a chain...finally ! Pros: the sushi , fresh fish, innovative dishes Cons: not enough competitio, its in Memphis ! more

Sakura...great uthentic place with imagination 9/8/2005

The owners, Steve and Joyce produce an authentic CHINESE product combined with a great ""flair""....great Germantown location...FRESH sushi..some of the best I've had anywhere.. I love the ""grouper roasted cheeks"" !...not on the menu....but ask Steve !!! more
