I went to the ""cherry blossom"" (Sakura) cafe for the first time last week. At first, I was a bit taken aback by their lack of a sushi bar.\r
My first thought was ""well, there must be something they are hiding, right!?""\r
\r
Well, things could not be further from the truth. The reason why there is no sushi bar is simply the fact that the owner of Sakura, a very lovely lady from Japan, started out her restaurant as a sake bar - and added the food part later on. Perhaps not the best idea for business - but the Sushi is expertly prepared by a dedicated Japanese Sushi Chef with 40 years of experience ... do I need to say more? His English however is not as good as his skills with the knife, and that's the reason why he likes to hide out in the kitchen. But no need to worry, this place serves up some of the best sushi/sashimi in all of NYC - and all of this at very reasonable prices.
Pros: excellent sushi, friendly & unrushed service, unpretentious
Cons: no sushi bar
