2 Stars are all it's worth 5/17/2008

I have been to rustler's roost twice and have decided it's not worth the time. I give every place 2 chances to impress me. But when i go twice and have a lackluster experience, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't waste my money after that. The food is OK, the atmosphere is fun, but the service is horrible and the hostesses are rude. i think they try and put too much work onto too few people and expect everything to be great. It tends to get pricey when the food is only so-so. if it were less expensive, I would probably go again, even with slow service. Pros: Cute set-up, nice live music, good atmosphere for families Cons: Slow service, average food at high prices more

Good food, but price-y 11/2/2006

Great food! Excellent biscuits, sweet corn-on-the-cob, moist and flavorful salmon (rice was very good!), my friend's fried chicken looked delicious!, and the cowpie dessert (coffee ice cream on an oreo crust with a crunchy chocolate coating and phyllo threads for extra crunch) was a great ending. Skip the fry bread. Pros: Good food Cons: Price-y more

A must see in Phoenix 6/21/2005

This was an amazing place to eat. Not just because of the food, but the view. Nothing comes close to the view from this place. The band was great, the food was really good, and if you have never eaten rattle snake, this is the place! This is an ideal place to bring people from out of town. If they are not impressed, send them home! Pros: view, food Cons: none more

Family favorite, great for out of town guests 3/8/2005

This restuarant is a favorite for special occasions and a standard when we have out of town guests. The view is unparalleled, we like to go about an hour before sunset for the best show. The food is wonderful and abundant. The bread will kill your appetite, so be careful not to fall prey to it's charms. The family style salad is nothing to write home about, but the steaks, fish and other entrees are perfectly prepared to order. Highly recommend. Pros: View, Food, Ambience Cons: Noisy, Need Reservations more

Fun place to eat. 6/12/2004

Go here at dusk as the sun sets and the city lights come on, beautiful view! The food was great and it's just a cool place. Pros: Food, View, Service more

Great view, wonderful experience. 2/7/2004

We drove from Scottsdale and after having some difficulty finding this place, we were glad we made it!. The night view of the city from within the restaurant was incredible. We tried the rattlesnake and it was a treat (the meat was tough - tasted like overcooked chicken nuggets). We ordered the Cowboy Stuff - essentially a sampler platter). The slide that you go down was a lot of fun and we felt like we were in a real cowboy hideout. It was a lot of fun though we weren't that hungry and the food was just decent. It was pretty cool seeing a huge steer chilling outside the restaurant. Pros: Wonderful view, slide Cons: , smelly steer more

Great for Visitors! 4/10/2003

Great View! Great Happy Hour Menu! You have to go down the slide! more

No Bull the Food is good 1/21/2003

While waiting for your table, and there will be a wait, you can enjoy the view of the city. This restaurant is situated on a high spot overlooking Phoenix. The view alone would make you come there. Fortunately the food is good too. The decor is very traditional western. It goes perfectly with the menu. You won't find any foo foo sprouts and tofu here. Interestingly enough, the good steaks do not carry over into a pretentious atmosphere. One issue I had. They have a live steer penned up in front of the restaurant. Call my a wuss, but I don't want to look tomorrows dinner in the face. No matter how yummy it may be. Pros: view, portions, atmosphere Cons: touristy more

big hello from germany 12/11/2002

it was a nice experience and an overwhelming overview. it was the big western kitsch but not obtrusive. it is a good place to relax and to get fed. All in all i enjoyed my stay in 1996. more

Great view, big steaks 5/20/2002

Great city views and the live cow in front of the restaurant make this a memorable dining experience. The agile diner can slide down the chute to the main dining area. The tiered layout provides every table an excellent vantage. The steak isn't up to Ruth's Chris or Morton's standards, but it's very good and comes in large portions. Pros: Great views Cons: Average fair more

  • In Short
Perched atop a hill at Pointe South Mountain Resort, this lively steakhouse with live country music performed every night affords stunning views of Phoenix. A live bull is penned up next to the entrance, which resembles an Old-West mine. Patrons can slide down a chute to the large, rustic dining area with a sawdust floor. Massive prime rib, T-bones and porterhouse steaks headline the menu, but fried rattlesnake is a notable starter.
