I was really excited to check this place out in City Centre. What I did not expect was to get food poisoning. The menu looked great and the price was understandable for organic fo...

The Green is a Go 2/3/2010

This place has been my old faithful for about a year now. The food is so good (love the spicy fish and the new spicy shrimp tacos). The food is always fresh, and unlike most "healthy" resturants, all of it has amazing flavor. more

Eclectic and Definitely Appeals to the Organic Crowd 1/29/2010

This is an interesting, clean place that prides itself on organic-based food. Now, I have to admit I grew up in a farming community and know the science of modern agriculture. "Organic" is a fraud but for all of you who believe in this cult you're going to love Ruggles Green. For everybody else, well, the food is ok if overpriced. Pros: Well prepared, interesting food. Cons: A bit pricey for what you get more

I just love the fresh, local food at Ruggles Green 1/6/2010

If you are a fan of Fish Tacos around town, these fish tacos will have your returning again and again. The meal is huge and could probably be used for a second meal, but I just had to write and let you all know just how much I love them fish tacos! Pros: Spicy Fish Tacos Cons: Can't always get my favorite booth more

my favorite place 1/6/2010

I am a frequent diner at this place. It is frequented by Kirby/Alabama area folks and is friendly and warm. For the price, it is my absolute fave. It is consistant with everything, but the chicken curry salad and tomato soup cannot be beaten. the pan fried chicken, which has been on the special board since I can remember, is the best chicken dish I have ever had. Pros: friendly, warm and the food is delish more

What happened to the quality? 11/29/2009

I am with the review below - sadly this once amazing lunch/dinner spot has gone downhill. I last visited 6 mo ago in August when I took my sister, who was in from Dallas, to have lunch. She and I could not get over how absolutely wonderful the signature goat cheese salad was, with toasted almonds, field greens, sun sprouts and dried cheeries. A great cook herself, she actually stated it was one of the best salads she's ever eaten. This past Saturday I ordered the same (around 2pm after the lunch rush) which paled in comparison: the field greens were wilted about a day + past their prime to the point the rotten taste overwhelmed the salad dressing. The almonds which encase the dollup of goat cheese were not toasted at all, which was much of the flavor to this salad; the dried cheeries (or figs?) were apparently left off entirely. I also added grilled chicken ($3.95) to the salad, but was served a dry chicken breast which appeared to have been under the heat lamp for a few hours...likely left over from the noon lunch rush. In addition, my friend's burger (ordered medium) was dry and over cooked. Ruggles green did once produce flavorful and quality food; my guess is that the eco downturn and decrease in people eating out has caused RG to cut back on quality/staff. Pros: Offers healthy fresh foods with a twist Cons: Food presentation and quality more

mediocre place 10/13/2009

I stopped by here to grab lunch after visiting my favorite spa next door, but was not really that impressed. I had some chicken sandwich, which was not all that impressive or memorable. I personally didn't care for the atmosphere so much either. It's loud, not very warm, and hard to find seating. Menu selection is small, and I think there are plenty of other places in town for healthy eats which are more tasty. Overall, I'd say if you happen to be in the area then go but otherwise not worth going out of your way to try. Cons: parking more

Gone downhill 10/1/2009

I have been going to Ruggles Green since February and it used to be one of my favorite places in Houston. Recently I have been very disappointed and after my last experience, I don't think I'll go back. The food is not as fresh as it used to be, and it seems like whoever is preparing it doesn't care as much as they did in the past. What used to be my favorite salad was so awful the last time, I didn't even finish half of it. My husband ordered shrimp and they tasted and smelt fishy. Shame. more

lackluster food, depressing ambience 9/29/2009

Admittedly, I went here the first week it was open, but it was so blah I've never wanted to go back. The food was bland compared to the usual Ruggles fare, and the menu's choices were not very inspired. The absolute WORST cheesy soft rock I've ever been subjected to was playing non-stop, and the look of the place was uninspired. Go to Ruggles Cafe in Rice Village instead. It has a nice porch and fantastic food. Pros: the desserts are decent Cons: boring entrees, terrible music more

Small hip inner city restaurant. 8/15/2009

Small hip inner city restaurant. Good for a casual business lunch or a night out with friends. Salads sandwiches and gourmet burgers are the general menu items. It can be little pricey for the food/ portion size. more

Great service, great food! 3/28/2009

A group of 3 of us visited Ruggles Green for the first time a few weeks ago. It was pretty packed, so we ended up sitting outside at one of the picnic tables. Each of us ordered a different sandwich/burger and they were all delicious! We were there chatting for a while and one of the nice staff members made us some watermelon cotton candy to enjoy (very impressive!). Pros: Food and customer service Cons: Limited parking and seating during peak times more
