Only authentic French Restaurant in Buffalo 9/13/2008

I have visited The Rue Franklin many times and have always been impressed with the consistency of their use of fresh seasonal produce, excellent desserts, fine wines, and ambience. I must admit as a lover of cuisine that The Rue Franklin is my favorite restaurant in Buffalo. They have been around for much longer than most restaurants in their neighborhood and have greatly refined themselves. I find it sad that anyone would have visited The Rue Franklin and had a negative experience. When reviews use terms such as creepy, strange, expensive, and the like, I realize that not everyone is equally cultured. Perhaps a few international travels would do some good at opening the eye of those that have decided to negatively rate The Rue Franklin. Then again if your idea of a good meal comes from a box or a paper bag, then maybe it's too late for you. I myself will continue to dine at The Rue Franklin because dining is why I go to The Rue Franklin. I do not go out for dinner looking to stuff myself, and to bulk up on preservatives and white flour. If that sounds like you, I feel sorry for you. But I'm sure you can find the early bird special somewhere that includes an obnoxious portion and all the MSG'S you can devour. Good Luck to you! But for those who are of a Cosmopolitan Nature, The Rue Franklin is The French Restaurant in Buffalo to dine at.\r Pros: A real dining experience! more

Waste of time, money, food. 4/20/2008

This place is the most over-rated restaurant I have ever been to in my life. Inside, it is decorated like one of those 40ft. Winnebago campers that old people in Palm Springs live in -- mirrored columns, drab green carpet, tacky and tactless light fixtures. Despite the fact that we ordered an expensive bottle of wine (when the waiter did finally get around to noticing that we had been sitting and waiting for roughly 20 minutes), we were still treated like a nuisance. My wife's steak was *very* overcooked, my fish was dry, the flavors were bland at best. And the supposedly ""gracious"" hostess is just a creepy old lady who wants to usher people in and out as quickly as possible. If you rated this place more than one star, then you must have had a totally different experience, although all of my friends have confirmed that this is the general run of things. I will NEVER go back to ""the Rue"" again. Stay away! Pros: Great for rich white people over 70, although no ""early bird"" dinner specials Cons: Everything that could be bad about a restaurant - this place has it. more

Exceeded my expcetations 12/31/2007

After reading some poor reviews on city search, I was a little hesitant on making the trip to Rue Franklin. But, the reservations were made and my girlfriend was excited about the trip...so off we went. The service was excellent and the food was even better. A trip to Rue Franklin is a must for any fine diner in Buffalo more

Don't Bother! 11/15/2007

Don't Bother! A group of friends and I dined at the Rue last year. Since it is our hobby to try different restaurants, we were really looking forward to this dining experience. Everything was horrible from service to price, ambiance to portion size. I agree with other reviews that the vibe was weird. It was not welcoming and you got the feeling you were putting your server out. We are a group of 30-40 something professionals who enjoy good food and don't mind paying for the experience. This one was totally disappointing. In fact, when we got back to the house for drinks, the guys actually ordered a pizza! more

decent but strange place 8/14/2007

I would not suggest going here if you are younger than 30... Im 25 and myself and my girlfriend of the same age went here. To put it frankly we were kind of creeped out. its very old french style, small tables, has very strange music and its very bright. Everyone else that was there was MUCH older (60's +) and seemed to be going to the play that night... \r \r The food was ok, not the greatest, slightly over priced... It wasnt a terrible restaurant at all it just wasnt really suitable for our demographic if you will or it just might have not been what we were looking for... more

Terrible food and worse service .. go anywhere else but here.. 6/14/2007

We looked forward to going to the Rue but were utterly disappointed. With what they charge per plate, you'd think they would at least remove the tiny bones from the rabbit stew. My date's meat dish was bland and soda was flat. The waiters didn't know what they were serving when asked. Overall high expectations and poor delivery. We will never go back to the Rue. Too bad citysearch doesn't allow minus ratings because this one is a NEGATIVE two stars !! Pros: decor Cons: serivce, food and cost more

Best French Restaurant In Buffalo 2/9/2007

Deedee Lippes is the most gracious hostess at this premier french restaurant in Buffalo. Favorites include the foie gras, monkfish, cod, duck breast, and filet. The cheese plate is a must. For dessert, the tarte tatin is my favorite. Overall this restaurant is one of, if not the, best in Buffalo. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Food poorly prepared and lack flavor, there are better places in town 2/4/2007

paid $$$ to go on a thursday night where you'd expect the service to be stellar. poor service with uneducated staff on what the specials of the evening made for a bad night out. go to mother's restaurant for alot less money and service. highly NOT recommended !! Pros: ambience Cons: $$$, service, .. just about everything more

Food, service, and atmosphere are excellent. Very expensive, a bit stuffy, and there may be other reaturants in the city that are better value. However, I would highly reccomend it. more
