Good food, great service 9/22/2008

I'm not sure what the last reviewers ate, but I disagree on a few points with them. Let's start with the lobster, since that seems to be what Rudy's is known for. I've eaten lobster at various locales in the western hemisphere and Rudy's is very good, not the best, but very good. The back ""skin"" of a lobster, when cooked was, as always, a bit leathery, but the flavor was not bland or boring. The servings were ALL normally sized, starting with the chowder (a unique flavor, not too creamy), to the pasta which followed, right down to the baked potato. All equally good. As for the meat sauce on the pasta, well, it was a very good, authentic meat sauce, served in the Italian style as being a condiment complimenting the pasta rather than overwhelming it. My waiter was very attentive to service, not rushing me through the meal but allowing me a leisurely, relaxing pace to relish the denizen of the deep I chose for dinner. As to cost, I'm not sure what backwater area of the country one of the previous reviewers was from that they expect to get two, three course seafood dinners, one childrens meal, two glasses of wine and one cocktail for under a hundred bucks, but I've travelled over a lot of these United States and more than a few places in Mexico and abroad and that hasn't been my experience. Just the two dinners I would expect to pay about eighty USD, add in the alcohol and kids meal and you would easily be over $100.00. All in all I would choose this establishment again if I were in town and have NO reservations in recommending it to others, including family and friends. Pros: Food and service more

Gone downhill 8/26/2008

My husband and I ate here a few years ago and enjoyed our meal. The service and food was good and so were the portions. We were in the area last weekend and took our Son to Rudy's for his Birthday. What a mistake!!! Pros: Location, good service Cons: Noisy, lousy food, over priced more

The BEST - STILL 4/26/2008

Just had the best time out in a very long time. Rudy's has been a landmark for as long as I can remember. It was my parent's favorite hangout. The food and the service was outstanding!! Artichoke rocked! Clam chowder is the best I have ever had. I had the lobster -YUM! and hubby had the prime rib, both were fabulous. Hot tip: BANANA CREME PIE- oh, my gosh. I am so stuffed. The entire staff is friendly and fun. I highly recommend Rudy's. Can't wait to get back. more

Good service, Nice atmosphere, Lousy food, Child friendly 1/16/2008

Our first time at Rudy's will be our last. We had heard about the place for years, so wanting lobster, we decided to try it. The steaks were ok, not great, but you can add on mushrooms and onions for additional cost. The lobster was tough and chewy to the point that I couldn't even cut through it and had to send it back. It's replacement was slightly better but overly salted. The lobster ravioli had bits of shells in it. The escargot were overly dry. Even the clam chowder was the worst I've had in a while- lukewarm, overly creamy with hardly any chunks in it. We both took two bites and passed. The best part of the meal was the frech fries that came with the kids meal (very BK, and almost as good). We had great service and no wait. We went at 6:30 tonight (Wednesday). They were able to accomodate large parties quickly. I enjoyed the new decor and great art on the walls (enamel on steel pieces), the atmosphere could even be romantic. Overall, not worth the money for the below average food. A cheeseburger kids meal, Steak and Lobster dinner, and lobster ravioli with 1 cocktail and an appetizer was over $100. The plain burger and fries was the only thing I didn't consider sending back. Oh- for those with kids: The lobster tank does get emptier overnight, so you may not want to sit by it. Pros: Service, accomodates large parties, kid friendly Cons: Horrible food, Expensive more

Just Average 7/7/2007

I have always heard that 'Rudy's is the best' so finally decided to try it out. My husband took me a couple of weeks ago and I must say, average at best. I had the steak and lobster. Steak was very good but the lobster was tough and chewy. I guess they just remodeled and I think they chose a poor color. I felt I was in a fancy coffee shop rather than a fine steak house. The pros were: Blue cheese salad dressing was very good, the sauce on the pasta (served between the salad and your main entree) was excellent, steak was good. If the lobster would have been better and the price for two dinners, two glasses of wine and 2 cocktails had not been over well over $100, I would return. more

Terrific food and service! 9/6/2006

I tried this restaurant because it had high ratings and I must agree... it's a great restaurant. Last night, I was greeted with a smile by the hostess and immediately seated. The waiter, Jeff, had a very warm and charming personality and knew the menu and details of the dishes very well. He had 6 or 7 tables to wait on but was timely and equally attentive to us all. I wanted something light to eat and he recommended the crab-stuffed salmon with rice pilaf. It was simply delicious! The atmosphere was nice the music wasn't too loud, so you could hear the other person who was with you or hear your own thoughts if you were alone. I will definitely come back to this restaurant when in town again and highly recommend it to others. Pros: The food and staff. Cons: N/A more

An institution 8/12/2004

to say the least. Have been there several times over the years for special occasions. Lobster rules but their prime rib and steaks are good also. I like the atmosphere but my wife was'nt all that crazy about it. I think it's a great place and hope it outlives me. Pros: Lobster, Lobster, Lobster more

Was Wonderful!!! 1/11/2004

My husband and I had an excellent evening there. The people were very attentive, yet unobtrusive. The food was wonderful; they have the best clam chowder I think I've ever had!! The sauce on their pasta... Mmm... and the lobster was most excellent!! And well worth the asking price. I would definately recommend this restaurant to anyone thinking about it. Pros: Excellent food, Great service, Comfortable seating Cons: Close quarters more
