We recently had a problem with pooled water around our basement drain, and called Roto-Rooter to come take a look. They came, said they could snake it but it would be more worthwhile just to hydroflush instead (an increase from $300 to $600 for hydroflushing). They returned the following day, hydroflushed the drain, they told me (a young, female, new homeowner) that we had a hole in our pipes proximal to our septic tank, and that it would cost $3500 for them to fix it. They offered to return the next day to fix it, but my husband and I opted to have a second plumber take a look. A second, and then third, plumber took a look at our pipes (using a camera) and told us there was nothing wrong with it - the hole was actually another pipe used to pump out near the septic tank, and that the initial plumbers (from Roto-Rooter) probably knew that.
