I had Roto-Rooter out to unclog a kitchen drain and repair a broken pipe in the lift station for my septic. One service tech was here for about 1 hour unclogging and replacing the kitchen drain, I already had taken it all apart, all he had to do was unclog the pipe and put the drain back together. I supplied all of the necessary material. The second tech was here less than 1 hour fixing the broken pipe, he needed 1-2"" PVC elbow to make the repair. They charged an outrageous price of $269.00 for the kitchen and $339.00 for the broken PVC pipe for a total of $608.00. They charged $20.00 in material for 1 elbow and some glue ($4.00 at Home Depot). That means they charged me 2 man hours which works out to about $294.00/Hour. I had a house full of out of town visitors so I had no choice but to have them do the work.
The techs were very pleasant and professional, but I think the hourly rate is gouging. I am in the construction business so I know what contractors charge. I would have been happy with $150/hr per man for a total of $300.00, but $294 is way over the top. I know I won't get selected for the free service charge for doing this survey because of the negative review, but I want to warn other customers before someone else gets taken by their outrageous rates. I will never use Roto-Rooter again and I will make sure all of my neighbors and friends know how much they charge so they try a different service. I would not recommend Roto-Rooter to anyone else.
