Mr and Mrs. Roper are the about the 5/28/2012

Mr and Mrs. Roper are the about the nicest people I have ever met., and they have a true love for everything BBQ. I have vowed to eat here any time I go to St. Louis. The baby back ribs are possible the best food I have ever eaten, and the St. Louis style ribs are also amazing. I am from the south so I am almost never satisfied with pulled pork from anywhere outside of North Carolina or South Carolina, however, Roper's has the best pulled pork I've ever eaten. You could easily drive right past the place, but this is a must stop if you love the Q. more

Tenderest Ribs I Ever Had!!! 1/19/2011

Ropers Ribs have the most tender, delicious ribs I have ever eaten. The best lunch I ever had at a catered event. Not one complaint. more

if u don't know, now u know... 10/20/2010

Not only are they great smoker's, they are good people. The service first and foremost is always friendly and courteous. Makes you feel at home with gradma cooking, with the smells teasing your nose from blocks away, of chicken, ribs and snoots, yes SNOOTS, THE BEST. I've had the pleasure of helping them, help me gain weight for years, just finally got around to writing a review, like the rating says walk, don't run, get to Roper's Ribs. It is right there at, Jennings Station Road and West Florissant and if you haven't heard, they brought that TRIPE back, I hope I don't hurt myself, but at least I'll be happy and full if I do. more

Roper's Ribs is a must stop! 9/15/2010

In early August my wife and I stopped at Roper's Ribs on the way to Chicago from Ft Smith, AR. We had heard about Roper's from other reviews and web searches. We sat down at 3:00pm and ordered enough food for 4 people. WOW-it was fantastic St Louis style BBQ! On a side note don't leave Roper's without trying the Shrimp. It is out of this world! Mr. & Mrs. Roper were so polite and cordial they made us feel like family! We talked with them for 20 minutes after we finished eating. Bring your appetite and sit down to some award winning ribs. I'm getting hungry just typing this review! We can't wait to go back. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Roper! more

25 plus years wasted!!! 4/20/2010

I have lived in Jennings for over 25 years. I've have heard people talk about Ropers day in and day out but never ever attempted to go purchase any of their food. I wasnt really fond of the location but the officers I work with have always said go in the daytime you'll have nothing to worry about...I wasn't trying to hear them. My brother decided to bring some home one day...his first time eating there too. LOL You should have seen us hovered over that box of rib tips!!! Lawd hav mercy they were the best ribs ever. I was upset that all this time I had been living here I never tried them....Now I will be going as often as I can!!! Pros: Its ALL good! Cons: Location more

THE BEST THERE IS!!!! 6/8/2009

Last year and this year we went on an RV road trip just to eat at BBQ places and find the best....last year Ropers was by far the best and this years trip we had to go back and its still the best even after trying a bunch of new places. Some places weve been: LC's (St. Louis) excellent!!, Rondevou (Memphis) excellent sausage and fun, Neeleys (Memphis) very good, Corkeys (Nashville) only thing I liked was the fried pickle, Arthur Bryants (Kansas City) not good to sweet, many others not mentionable. I would have never passed by this place and thought I needed to try it because its small and dingy but WELL WORTH IT. YOU HAVE TO GET IT...I cant stress it enough. Everything from catfish to st. louis style bbq ribs has been excellent, sides are ok but still good. Pros: BBQ, Shrimp, Catfish, BBQ, BBQ BBQ!! Cons: No dine in and small waiting area more

Artisan ribs 12/12/2008

I live iin Minneapolis and commute to St Louis. The trips can get tedious but one thing I always look forward to is Carl's ribs and Denise' cheerful smile. There are no better ribs, anywhere!!!! And the Ropers take pride in what they are do, a rare thing now days. more

WOW 12/2/2008

We had come to St. Louis for a Rams game, and wanted the best St. Louis style ribs in the area. I read the previos reviews, and they were all true. The best ribs i have ever had. I used to work for a Famous Daves and had thought that those ribs couldn't be beat. Boy was i wrong, not only were they beat, they embarrased. Mr. and Mrs. Roper have a great product and terrific hospitality to boot. Thought i would suggest getting take out if you wanted the kids to enjoy with you, for that part of town isn't one that you want to bring the family out for a nice night out. All in all, Ropers Ribs was the best tasting BBQ that i have ever had and i would recommend it to anyone and everyone. And if you are reading this Mrs. Roper, thanks for the Sud's, and letting us use the bathroom. more

Fantastic bbq 9/16/2008

I saw so many great reviews on here that I wondered if someone was posting under different names... but I went to check Roper's out for myself and realized why it has such a devoted following. It all begins with the service. Mrs Roper spent 10 minutes telling me all about the cuts of meat and advising me on which dish to go for (apparently the ribs & shrimp combo is the choice of the connoisseur). Then the food! As someone else here said, the sauce is amazing but it doesn't dominate. The meat is the star and the portions were very generous. The Ropers were even kind enough to throw in a taste of other cuts too so I could tell the difference. All in all, a great experience. Pros: RIBS! Cons: Just one location -- this deserves to be a national chain more

Did Not Disappoint 7/29/2008

My father was in from Colorado and said he wanted to try some of the famous St Louis ribs he's been hearing so much about. We took him to Roper's Ribs and they did not disappoint. The ribs, rib tips, riblets, and shrimp were outstanding. It was definitely worth the 20 minute wait. more

Not Just Incredible...it's PERFECT BBQ!!! 6/30/2008

It's worth every minute of the 20+ minute wait for food here, but don't let that stop you!!! I've eaten a lot of BBQ in my life and Roper's is PERFECT!!! It was so good I visited twice in two days, having different items each time. First, the #7 half-rack of ribs was perfectly sauced, incredibly tender and the perfect pink all the way through and shows the amazing smoke technique they use. The potato salad isn't bad, too. Pros: Perfect BBQ, decent quantities, decent portions Cons: Dodgy neighborhood, long wait if ordered in person more

Best Ribs!!! 6/11/2008

This is the best place in St. Louis to get ribs. I ordered the St. Louis style ribs and was stuffed for the rest of the day. I highly recommend Roper's Ribs if you're in St. Louis or if you're a fan of barbecue. more

Good Eatin' 5/1/2008

A worth while stop on our journey from NYC to SF. Carl makes some mean barbecue and he doesn't hesitate to tell you all about it. We put ourselves at Mr. Roper's mercy and ordered two helpings of the baby back and shrimp combo--the ""cat's meow"" as he aptly put it. The tender meat fell off the bone with just enough bite to give you something to chew on. The smoky sauce was well balanced with notes of sweetness contrasting with heat and acid. And the pile of bones we left behind were licked clean. That said, it was the shrimp that I saved for my last bite. Perfectly cooked shrimp encased in a crispy-crunchy shell dipped in his house-made mayo, it rivals the best fried foods I've encountered. Carl's been scientifically tweaking his new shrimp recipe for three years and when it makes its debut I want to be there. more

Do yourself a service and try these ribs - you'll thank me for it 2/26/2008

This is the real deal for BBQ. The owner can speak at length about the care that goes into producing the best BBQ around. The product speaks for itself. I ordered the STL style ribs which were tender and had the best flavor I have ever had the pleasure of tasting - the right blend of smoke, maple syrup, and spice, yum. more

You haven't had que till you've had Roper's 12/23/2007

This place was an experience that any que lover should experience. We were driving through st louis on our way to southern illinois and I looked on this website to find a ma and pap place to try some real st louis que, and there is a reason this place has 12 (now 13) glowing reviews. The ribs were incredible and the service was outstanding. Ma chatted us up while we waiting for our food and and when we were done eating pa talked to us for about a half our about how they go about making their sauce the best. This includes calling all over north america to find the right kind of maple to make the sugar for his sauce. That brings us to the sauce and the ribs; succulent, sweet, a kiss of vinegar and and after taste that leaves you wanting more. The shrimp were awesome and my first experience with snoot was a memorable one. This place is easy to get to, right off I-70 and yes, the neighborhood is 'well worn' So if that makes you uncomfortable, get over it because you'll miss out. Pros: great food, great people more

Bbq 11/7/2007

Holidays are upon us and some of us will attempt that big meal. Although I tried, i couldn't take credit for the tender, tasty, smoked turkey, I served last Thanksgiving . I am seeking a repeat performance. Think about it, smoked turkey, beef brisket or ham. Service is great and I visit quite often. Cons: Parking more

You will not find better Bar-b-q anywhere. And Dr. Q will educate you if you will listen 8/23/2007

Some people believe Bar-b-q is an art form, others say it's a science. Carl Roper has a PhD in the art of Bar-b-q. A tiny 4 table storefront in a well worn St Louis neighborhood, Mr and Mrs Roper serve a technically perfect product. As a small operation he can personally select only the best meats from the most trusted suppliers and the finest spices and other ingredients which he applies at just the right times in the cooking process. Controlled temperature smoking over Missouri shag-bark hickory and a unique sauce complete the magic. They also serve excellent seafood dishes and, for a little adventure, tripe sandwiches and ""snoot."" Don't go expecting a romantic, candlelit dinner with your beloved; rather, go for a great eating experience. If you want ambiance, get your food ""to go,"" find a place to sit in the nearby riverview park (or your own comfortable home), and enjoy truly outstanding Bar-b-q. With some notice they will provide large quantities for your special event. My son and I visited during an August Bar-b-q road trip and it was the first place (including the BIG names in Kansas City) that served something better than we can make ourselves here in Colorado. Pros: Food, food, food, to die for Cons: no genteel amenities, well worn neighborhood more

these ribs MUST become avilable on the east coast for the sake of rib lovers 7/20/2007

I've had ribs lots of places, lots of great recipes, family restaurant and otherwise - and I am here to tell you that finding ribs of this calibur is like finding a needle in a haystack. Should you be so lucky as to chance upon Roper's Ribs at their MO location, WRITE DOWN THEIR INFO because you won't run into anything that has comparable quality to this these ribs wherever you come from, I guarantee. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ROPERS - CONSIDER BRANCHING OUT TO THE EAST COAST - the plane tickets I'll need to get back to your righteous racks of ribs are gonna get awfully expensive...... Pros: Are you serious?????? Cons: This isn't a chain restaurant more

BBQ that draws all the way from Los Angeles 7/19/2007

Traveling from Los Angeles to Kansas City, St Louis and Memphis for the sheer pleasure of devouring the best of BBQ from these quintessentially BBQ Joint Havens, my wife and I were bowled over by the quality, service, friendliness and taste of the Rib Tips at Roper's. Taking a few minutes before he rushed out the door, the owner was kind enough to indulge us out-of-towners on the finer points of his establishment's efforts to create the best BBQ ever. His comittment to use only the best meat available shown through immediately when we were savouring his tasty, fall off the bone ribs. His genuine dedication to making up for the out of the way location of his corner store by only providing his customers with the highest quality BBQ available was evident in the pride that showed on his face as he described his work of giving such pleasure as we experienced in his little three table ""joint."" Pros: Best there is more
