Rooney's Oceanfront Restaurant 7/28/2008

This review is in response to the previous review written by OnlyMeNJ. First of all, how do you honestly take pleasure in mocking a server? You almost seem to brag about how you and the unfortunate company you keep mocked the mundane the waitress was who greeted you. Servers are human beings, not slaves. It also isn't their fault that you had to wait, and it isn't their fault that you paid for expensive drinks from the bar. I also find it highly unlikely that you weren't shown a dessert menu, since that is our policy. The service I have seen at Rooney's is top notch, and the food is as well. Pros: All more

Used to be better... 7/27/2008

Another couple, been going here for years. The service has been going downhill for the past few. Went there on a Saturday night. We knew there would be a wait, they don't take reservations. Anyway, we wait at the bar with its outrageous prices, thanks a lot. Finally get our seat and our waitress says in a dull, miserable, monotone voice, ""Welcome to Rooney's, I'll be back to take your order."" We laughed about it all night, immitating her. We could not believe we waited so long for such a lame, miserable person to greet us. She obviously did not want to be there and basically ruined our dinner, did not offer desert, just brought our check after we finished our main course. We had to call her over to ask for every little thing. For the wait, the prices and the attitude of some of the workers the food is really not that great. Note, not all of the workers are bad, there were some very friendly ones, we just had the bad luck to have someone wait on us that did not want to be there. Pros: location Cons: service, no reservations more

No reservations for a huge party! 9/26/2005

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the monmouth county area. I had noticed that the service had been going downhill on the last few occassions, but chose to ignore it. When I wanted to have a small wedding party dinner there on a Saturday night, they wouldn't accomodate me. They would not budge on the ""no reservations"" rule. I guess they don't want big parties. I have been dining here for years. The food and ambience are OK, but not good enough for my loyalty without a little give and take. I won't spend another penny here. more

Seafood with a View 11/4/2004

If you're visiting Long Branch Rooney's is a restaurant you should visit at least once. Situated on the boardwalk in the midst of the ongoing revitalization zone, this modern and spacious restaurant has a view of the ocean that is not to be beaten. Ample outdoor dining facing the ocean is available on both covered and uncovered patios. Seafood is the specialty here, though there's plenty of fare for diners who prefer meals from terra firma. A raw bar and seasonal seafood are notable on the menu. The occasionally imaginative food is generally well prepared and generous in portion. Service is rather mundane and prices are a bit high (but oh, what a view!) Reservations are recommended during tourist season. Pros: View!, Seafood selection, Parking Cons: , So-so service more
