Editorial review from Citysearch 12/1/2013

Rude service with attitudes. Although the food was pretty good we could not get past the rude hostess. Young girl, long brown hair, very unhappy looking, asked how many? I answered “five” and quickly got the nasty response “your party needs to actually be here before I can give you a table”. I replied that they are walking in now. She rolled her eyes and asked if my kids needed kids menus and while we were answering yes, she quickly replied “never mind, we just ran out”, she then led us to a table. We requested to sit outside and got more attitude as she reluctantly sat us out side still rolling her eyes and meanwhile pitching the menus at my wife, kids and mother in law. \r We have all decided not to return as long as she is working. more

The worst service imaginable 11/8/2009

After spending a 1/2 hour trying to determine who would be serving us dinner - it took another 10 minutes to find a manager. The throng of baseball hat wearing, shot drinking recent college grads made it very difficult to properly lodge a complaint about the service. The food has declined in recent years - but is edible. The utter lack of service and he complete lack of care by the management (at least on a weekend night) make it a impossible place to have a decent dining experience. The bar was obviously more important to the management - the food and service played a distant second fiddle. Pros: Edible food Cons: The service more

Horrible Customer Service 9/18/2008

We frequent the establishment because of their great food but not because of their service. We were going to throw a 40th birthday for a co-worker who loves their food. I made a reservation for 11 for lunch time and requested we sit on the patio. The hostess said we cannot guarantee the patio. I was stunned as to why we have a large party and cannot sit where we would like. I left two messages for the manager to call me back and she never did. I find this totally unacceptable and bad managing. Needless to say we cancelled the reservation. more

my favorite restraurant 1/23/2008

everthing on the menu is good and it is very different from your average restraurants. Price is high average but it is worth it. my favorite dish is the blacken halibut, mac cheese, corn, and spinich. But only problem is the waiting you must make a reservation with no reservation one will wait about a hour or more. Pros: Food Cons: waiting to get a table more

Best Restaurant in the South Bay! 6/26/2007

I love Rock 'n Fish! Their food is fantastic and the service is great. It is always crowded so try to make reservations or be prepared to wait a looong time. The good thing is the hostess will call you when the table is ready, so you can leave the overcrowded bar and head next door to Shellback or the Brewery for a beer. I highly recommend the artichoke appetizer, crab cakes and tri-tip--- pretty much everything else on the menu too! Pros: Food, Service Cons: Long Wait more

Best seafood...fresh and tasty 2/26/2007

I've been to this restauarant at least twice. And both times the FOOD were fresh and superbly delectable. If you love seafood then this is the place for you. The calamari, clam chowder and king crab legs are especially commendable. The menu PRICE may be a bit costly, however with food as fresh and tasty as they serve I'd say its worth it. The liquor prices are standard. The AMBIANCE was agreeable, options of sitting inside, on the bar or outside patio are available. It can be a romantic venue during the evenings. The SERVICE was average, attentiveness on the servers side wouldn't be too bad. Over all I'd say I'd come back to this place and recommend it to family and friends. Pros: Great tasting food Cons: Limited sitting capacity , could be a bit pricey more

Sooooo Goooood! 1/5/2007

This is such an amazing restaurant. The artichokes are to die for. And my husband loves all the fish dishes. The navy grog is a must try. This is one of our favorite restaurants. Pros: great food Cons: average service more

Great Staff, Great Food, Excellent Ambience 10/26/2006

I love this restaurant...primarily because the staff is so warm and welcoming. David at the bar and Mike the owner make everyone feel like VIP's. Sitting at the bar for dinner is great because it is so social. I shouldn't be saying all this - because it's crowded enough already....but they deserve the kudos! more

Horrible Experience 10/8/2006

We had heard very good things about this restaurant and being MB locals decided to give it a shot. When we walked in at 7pm for our 7pm reservation the hostess informed us she did not have our reservation, I had made it through Open Table, so would not normally expect this to be a problem. She then informed me it would be at least a 20 minute wait, it was more. Meanwhile we waited in the bar area which took me back to my college days except this time the drunks bumping into everyone and throwing things were middle aged! We were shown to a table upstairs which did nothing to dull the noise from the bar. The food, which was incredibly overpriced, was horrible. To start the crab cakes were dry and tastless, my husband's halibut, mashed potatoes and spinach were drowning in salt and my Cioppino special was so spicy (and I like spicy) it almost hid the fact that all of the seafood was over cooked. The ambiance was totally lacking, the manager was fraternizing with the wasted patrons in the bar and the food was embarassing. Pros: Our Server was lovely Cons: Everything Else more

Best Clam Chowder Ever! 9/3/2006

Rock N Fish is very good. The Kapalua Rib Eye is to die for! The clam chowder is also the best I've had in the South Bay. Great food, and not too expensive. Pros: food, service, drinks Cons: long wait always if you don't have a reservation more

Good seafood by the beach 5/8/2006

I ate at this restaurant on a Sunday before any dinner rush, so we had no wait. The food and drink selection were excellent. The wood grilled fish and vegetables were awesome. The crab cakes were good, but not the best I've had. Same goes for the clam chowder. The spcial appetizer of the day was a blue cheese stuffed tomato, and might be one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. Service was good. Location by the pier is cool. Parking wasn't easy. But overall, excellent dining experience. Pros: Grilled food, fresh food, drinks Cons: parking, a little pricey more

Great Food and Hopin' Bar Scene 3/10/2006

This restaurant has the best food ever! It is one block from the beach (I think you can even see the ocean from the patio) and has a fun, up beat atmosphere. The servers are great and the food does not receive enough publicity. The portions are large and the food is very fresh (especially the fish). If you have never been here, you should definitely try it! We love the Fish! Pros: Great Location, Fresh Food, Awesome Servers more

Had to order dessert before dinner 1/16/2006

Despite having a 9 PM reservation on a Monday night, we had to wait about an hour to be seated. Then, when we're ready to order -- the waiter informed us that we'd have to order dessert (it was my friend's birthday), apps, and entrees all at the same time because the dining room was closing in a few minutes. The food was good. The oysters and scallops some of the freshest I've tasted, but the 'scene' wasn't worth it. Pros: fresh fish Cons: no parking, poor service more

Favorite place in the South Bay!!! 12/16/2005

This place is just downright awesome. However, this isn't a secret and it is packed most nights of the week. I recommend making a reservation and then still expect to wait a half hour to be seated. That's ok though since the bar has a happening scene and great prices on wine (by the glass or bottle). Also, the eye candy surrounding you (both guests and staff) helps the time go quick. The daily specials are amazing and simply compliment the large menu that offers food for anyone. Portions are good and price is decent. Enjoy!!! Pros: Atmosphere, FOOD, Bar Cons: Loud, Wait for table more

I would never recommend this place to anyone 8/30/2005

My company used to frequent this establishment for customer dinners, after-work, etc. However, we were there in a group of four on a Thursday, eating at one of the taller tables near the bar, ordering appetizers and numerous cocktails. We were asked by our server to vacate our seats, assuring us that the manager would ""buy us a round"" at the bar. Firstly, we were in one of the bar tables; secondly, we had not stopped ordering food; thirdly, the bar was standing room only. When we spoke to the manager, he was rude and unprofessional. We ended up having quite a hefty tab, and felt obligated to tip although I'm not quite sure what we were tipping for. The service was horrible and the staff was beyond rude. We, in turn, told everyone in the company of our experience and encouraged them not to return. more

Great Place 4/24/2005

Rock n' Fish is a new favorite. I've only been two times, because I'm from out-of-state, but everytime I visit, I want to come back. There is a long wait during dinner, but each time I've visited for lunch, we were seated right away. The food is great, and the service is alright. The first time I ate here we sat in the bar area, and the bartender forgot to put our order in. We had to wait awhile, but we got a free appetiser. The bread is excellent and the people are nice. Pros: Great food, fun atmosphere, great location Cons: Parking, crowded more
