Great ice cream/ambiance HORRID OWNER!!!!EVIL! 8/25/2009

Took my 4 kids for an afterschool treat today, had ok service by hired teen UNTIL the WITCH came out and decided to finish waiting on us. Poor us! She got peeved because I did not approve of her chubby hands on my infants ice cream cone without a napkin. So, she proceeded to THROW THE NAPKIN ACROSS THE COUNTER AT ME!!! This was all in front of a room full of customers, mostly moms, btw. She then proceded to insult me about being from Texas, which btw, I am not, just TX plates on the SUV. She asked me if ""that's how they do things in TX"", I dont know what the heck she meant by that....... Anyways , she rings us up and I asked the poor teenager who works for this beast what the woman's problem is, (no answer of course). She may have gotten her head chopped off for answering. The beast says she has no problem and encourages me to spread the word about her bad customer service practices which I am gladly doing. I felt too uncomfortable eating inside there, had 2 babies in a stroller, a nice woman escorted us out, gave me her business card and encouraged me to call her to 'chat'. She witnessed the whole event. This Evil Monster is the owner unfortunately and gives Mom and Pop shops a bad rep. She does not care .....read all the reviews and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!! Such a shame........... Pros: small town feel, homemade atmosphere Cons: OWNED BY EVIL WITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Extremely poor customer service. Do not expect friendly service if it is anywhere near closing time. 9/29/2008

\r Ice cream/food selections seem pretty good for a small town diner. Customer service not so much. I think we had the unfortunate experience of encountering the older female employee that a previous poster mentioned. \r My friend and I, too, came in a little before closing time just for a couple of scoops of ice cream. She had a very bad attitude and became easily agitated over simple questions i.e. portion size and such. We felt very rushed and the woman was just horrid...she practically shoved us out the door. Very disappointing. I thought Palmer Lake was supposed to be a friendly little town with Mom and Pop style hospitality? Pros: good ice cream Cons: poor customer service more

small town ice cream 6/19/2008

A cute historical building. Great Ice Cream. Can be very crowded & noisy at busy times. Bring your patience, the wait will be worth it. Definately a small town place. No canned franchise stuff here. Enjoy the train that goes around the room for the kids. A great place to cool off after riding the Santa Fe Trail from Monument or a hike up to the Palmer Lake Reserviors. Try it ! Back rooms feature unique gifts. Outside patio is a great place to visit with your neighbors. Pros: home town style place Cons: very busy & crowded sometimes more

Wonderful place! 5/28/2008

We go to the Rock House at least 3 times a week, we have never had bad service! The food has always been outstanding - fresh and hot. The owner has always been kind to us, never been angry - she is always smiling! She gives jobs to just about anyone that comes in the door, everyone is always happy at the Rock House! We have even been in when the line is out the door - the girls are always smiling when we get to the counter. My favorite ice cream is the White House, the kids love all the flavors! This is the best place to take the family ! Rock House Rocks!!! Pros: The wonderful owner and her scooper girls! more

really good small town ice cream & dogs 5/28/2008

You know I have to comment on the review of Maerceci. When his little girl ""visits the angels"" (isn't that sweet?) what he means is they open the display case and uses this lady's livelihood as his daughter's toybox. Some people have the common sense of a duck. I suppose he would take her to Toys-R-Us and open up toys for her to learn that she has no boundaries as far as other people's property. Then when the owner says not to do that she's a witch. Would you buy those now that you've learned his daughter plays with them every time they visit? I've seen a lot of little Johnnies and Little Tiffanies climb all over the furniture there screaming their heads off and the parents sit in their own little world of denial that they're raising spoiled ill behaved little monsters. When was the last time you saw a child who was quiet, well behaved, respectful, and had some manners? When was the last time you saw a parent take a child outside for misbehavior? When it does happen it's a sight to behold. Bless those parents!\r signed, A satisfied customer Pros: good value, better than average ice cream Cons: too busy at times, can't always get a seat more

Great ice cream in an historic building 3/23/2008

This unique little shop is a great reason to take the back road between Denver and Colorado Springs. It features locally made ice cream and homemade sandwiches, (no greasy burgers here!) The back room features quiet tables for talking and a few lovely antiques for sale. Pros: homemade sandwiches more

Great place for hot dogs and ice cream 2/22/2008

I found the previous review hard to believe because my visits have always been good with good food at reasonable prices. The owner has always been courteous to me. The Chicago dogs and ice cream are first rate. It can be a bit noisy when full which in the summer is frequent. Very popular in summer time. Pros: Good food, friendly help Cons: Very busy in the summer more

AWFUL customer service by owner herself; RUDE to me and my children! Close at 8pm and she will throw you right out at 8! 4/5/2007

We arrived at Rockhouse right after my son's baseball practice ended across the street at 7:30. We walked in about 7:35 and were going to order food. The owner barked at us that the kitchen closes at 7:15 even though the sign says they close at 8pm and there is no mention of this anywhere. Okay, so we are nice about it and just order ice cream. My son asks for a sample and she yells ""here it is!"" at thim when he doesn't take it quickly enough. I pay and tip her even because I'm trying to be kind...no thanks, nothing. \r At about 7:55, we are all finished with our ice cream except for my oldest son who has just a few bites left. She starts cutting lights off and closing up and giving us dirty looks. I finally say to her that I don't appreciate her being rude to me and my children and she says she is tired and can't getting any good help right now and blah, blah ...if we don't like it, go somewhere else. My son ended up tossing his ice cream because she made us so uncomfortable and we just wanted to leave. Worst experience with a small local business here ever! She just didn't care! She was just hateful to my young children...my son asked if he could have one of the sheets normally given out to children to draw on and was refused rudely of course.\r Anyway, yes, the food there is good but don't go there if they are going to close within the hour...and avoid the owner...she is the older, bitter looking lady that probably ate her young! Usually there are very nice teens that work there...deal with them only. Pros: Good food Cons: Awful customer service; owner is HATEFUL if tired or in a bad mood! more
