Stay away! Had my hair colored by a woman who claimed she had a master color license who was the most unprofessional colorist I've ever had. Never got the color right and did not want a discussion about it since she ""knew it all"" Very weird atmosphere in the salon. Some of the staff think they're doing you a big favor others are somewhat friendly. Overall seems to be lacking in professionalism. On a par with some at the chain salons. more

An unprofessional Place 3/25/2012

My wife and daughter just went to your place today and had a bunch of things done. It may be a very tranquil atmosphere but after they left I received a call from someone at the desk saying that they must have left without paying. I contacted them and they indeed paid but had to call and try to straighten it out. They said they felt like they were being accused of stealing or something. All that had to be done was check with the hairdresser Tina that took care of them and they would have found that everything was taken care of and paid for before someone calls and accuses.This was very unprofessional and rude of the person calling without checking on your end first.They were ,however, very happy with Tina and her work. I was told not to pick up anymore gift certificates for them anymore and they will just use whatever they have left and move on.Just thought you would want to know.See you around town. more

A Home Away from Home 7/30/2011

I have been going to Robert James Salon many many years, first Miller Place and now Riverhead, they are a professional, courteous, friendly and make me feel like family. Not only are their people knowledgeable in what they do, but they are always learning new trends in styling, and hair coloring. Doesn't matter if you come in morning, afternoon or evening, they always offer you coffee, tea or what they have to drink. Also, there is always snacks on the table for everyone. Saturdays, bagels and pizza for lunch to all in the salon. Once I forgot my wallet at home and they told be not to worry you can pay me the next time you come in. The salon is family owned and operated and they make me feel like one of them. more

Always a good experience 10/20/2009

The review by imupset is completely counter to my experience at Robert James. I have been going there for several years and have never seen anyone treated badly. There seems to be a good camaraderie among the staff, the owners are lovely and I followed by hairstylist there when she moved from her prior salon. It's open, spacious and only really busy when they are handling a wedding. None of the drama I've seen at other salons where people are constantly talking about each other behind their backs. Pros: Friendly, professional, always on time more

They tried to rip me off at the register twice and still have not re payed me 2/21/2009

Well, my hair came out nice, but its really not worth the aggravation I went through when it was time to pay! And I got a wax and they missed about 1/4 of the hair, Overall i felt unwelcome because I stood up for myself at the register! ""Well if your that worried about the money."" Uhh yeah i am worried when someone is ripping me off! Pros: friendly at first, hair came out beautiful Cons: watch your wallet, untrustworthy, very pushy, passed around to too many peolple for wash dry blowdry more
