Best

Quicken has just informed me that I have eaten at Robata 182 times since I moved here in 2003. Lunch or Dinner, business or pleasure, casual or a night on the town, Robata always...

Worst

The whole experience was uneventful - including the poorly presented food and less than friendly service.

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/31/2014

One of my fave spots to have sushi and many other Japanese dishes! A little pricey for me, but so good! My fave part was when they served our order on a paddle from the kitchen, how cool! The best best part was when the lady recommended something that wasn't on the menu! Not gonna tell! :) more

Excellent Sushi 3/18/2010

How does one work around Sushi Ran in Southern Marin. Last night I did. First course was at Sweet Ginger in Sausalito. It was terrible and every time we turned around the waitress was pushing food down our throat. We got a soft shell crab appetizer and a crunchy tuna roll and they were very greasy and heavily breaded. We ordered on handroll which was very small and not good. Pros: Fresh and Fun! Cons: Get's overlooked more

One Of The Best 12/18/2008

Ive been coming here since i was a kid. Every time i come its like home. I always let the server decide what to bring since they know what fresh and whats not. more

What happened to Robata? 9/7/2006

I've been to Robata over the years and I noticed that the taste has gone down quite a bit. Back in the hey-days (1980's?) was the best. Everytime I went there it was a feast. Now all the old chefs have moved on and opened their own restaurants around the bay area. That being said, I still go here every so often. Compared to some other places around here, this place is pretty good. I suggest you try their extensive sake selection. If you aren't sure on what you want, ask Fred, the owner for a suggestion. The sake goes very well with the items from the robata grill. Mmmm... sake. Pros: sake selection, nice servers, nice owner. Cons: Missing the good old days. more

_Always_ excellent! 2/1/2006

Quicken has just informed me that I have eaten at Robata 182 times since I moved here in 2003. Lunch or Dinner, business or pleasure, casual or a night on the town, Robata always hits the sweet spot. The sashimi is always excellent (and very reasonably priced), the Marin Roll is a great traditional Rainbow roll, and the ""That Roll"" special will have you begging for them to make it for you even when it's not on the menu. If you're really nice, Fred will be your guide into the land of sake. Enjoy the journey... My highest recommendation. Pros: Fresh seafood, Reasonably priced, Friendly staff more

Best Cal-Japanese in Bay Area 7/30/2004

This place is better than it has a right to be. Try the Catapillar Roll or the Hella Roll. The ""Like Water"" Sake is great. Suprisingly good and innovative not stodgy and too traditional. Cruncy Spicy Tuna Roll is also excellent. It's a bit expensive but since when was Japanese bargain food. Cheapskates never win anyways, enjoy! Pros: Catapillar Roll, "Like Water" Sake more

Great Japanese food 11/24/2003

Not many places that like to serve some traditional Japonese food. Not a hipster 50 different kind of rolls place. Very fresh fish Pros: , fresh fish more

This place rules. 7/27/2003

Robata's menu rules! Not only is their food always fresh, but they always seem to come with new and enticing ways to serve it, very creative on the rolls. I highly recommend the Riceball, and the Albacore Tataki. Keep up the great work, Robata!! Pros: Fresh, Lots of menu variety, Home of the Riceball Cons: Sometimes too busy! more

Good Find 2/26/2003

both my wife and I were surprised to find that this place was good. I have low expectations for Sushi in Marin, and have been unimpressed with Sushi to Dai for and Sushi RAN. Robata had great fish, and the best rolls outside of San Francisco. Finally, a place to get my sushi fix close to home. Not cheap though. Pros: food quality, ambiance Cons: expensive more

Great for lunch too! 8/28/2002

I eat lunch here at lest 3 times a month. They always have a great lunch special thats a great price. Dinner is fantastic, service was a bit slow but the staff and the food were well worth the wait. It is also not just sushi, they have a full menu. Try the unaten roll, i'm not big into rolls but this one is shrimp tempura in a rice roll with unage (it's eel, incase I spelled it wrong) on top. mmmmm I can tast the wasabi already. Pros: lunch special, full menu, great sushimi Cons: service a bit slow more

Yummy! 8/26/2002

They have everything!!! A full Japanese resturaunt. I met one of the owners Fred and he was such a nice guy! I will be back there soon. Pros: Variety, sizes, parking more
