Poor Service, OK Food 2/10/2010

I have eaten here a couple times. The last time was in 2008 and it was the last time. The food is decent, but not as good as other middle eastern places in Portland. If you live in the neighborhood and do not want to travel to one of the better restaurants, then it is worth it. The service was bad and terrible, including late food, the failure to bring dishes, ignoring empty water, and incorrect bills. I will not return. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service more

bla 12/2/2008

so yea if you need lebanese food just go to ya hala on stark near 82nd. infinitely better than anything you will find here. if you have no car and live near by it might be worth a shot since a few things are probably worth while. best of luck though. really nothing special. Pros: location Cons: you can do better more

Great food at a reasonable price 9/14/2008

Everytime I've been here service has been great. Food has been good and I've never ordered anything I didn't like. The food arrives fast and hot. The hummus is tangy and creamy smooth. Yum! My favorite is the falafel sandwich with a green salad. The falafel is a bit spicy and the salad has just the right amount of garlic and lemon. If you want great Lebanese without all the pretense try Riyadh. You won't be disappointed. Pros: The food Cons: Street parking more

Best Lebanese for your money in PDX 4/19/2008

This restaurant is amazing for the value. Probably the best Lebanese for the money in town. The hummus is awesome and so are the falafel. Pretty much everything on the menu. Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Outdoor Seating, Friendly Staff Cons: Store Bought Flatbread, No Soda Fountain, No Free Refills more

tasty inexpensive eats 3/27/2008

We had a great mezza platter here tonight at a very reasonable price. The server was pleasant and seemed genuinely concerned with taking care of us and did a pretty good job even with a quite a few tables to tend to. I can't wait to go back here and try out the other items on the menu. more

Rude Service; okay food 3/22/2008

I love Middle Eastern food, but there are better options in Portland. The food is decent (however, unlike other ME restaurants, they do not make their own bread- who wants to eat microwaved pita bread with their hummus?). However, I found it a very unpleasant place to eat. The floors are white, which shows all the dirt and made the place feel dirty. The owner and the wait staff were very unwelcoming. Although the food was okay (although overpriced for the quanity), I left not wanting to return. I am not sure why all the positive reviews. Pros: Don't need to wait for a table Cons: See written information. more

Pretty Average Food 11/12/2007

After having eaten at several other middle easter places (like Ya Hala, Nicholas, Karams), I feel that the food is pretty average... and the portions that they serve is less. Pros: Parking, Service Cons: Average food, smaller portions. more

Best Lebanese Food around, beats Ya Halla hands down! 7/22/2007

We've been meaning to try this place every time we have gone by it. Well, we made a great choice! We typically go to Ya Halla, and the food is ok, the wait to get in is ridiculous!!! My Partner is vegetarian and really isn't all that impressed with what they have to offer at Ya Halla. Riyadh's has a TON of non-eggplant and vegetarian dishes. After going to Riyadh's we will definitely make this a regular spot! The food was outstanding, the lamb the best I've had and the other accompanying dishes were some of the best. Falafel can be hard to master and they've done a great job, spicy, moist and very good! There was no waiting, they had great beer on tap and you left full and very satisfied at the portions and unbelievably low prices. A definitely MUST to try! Pros: Food, prices, beer on tap Cons: None more

Best Midde Eastern 4/6/2007

This is by far the best middle eastern food in the Portland area. It is high quality and authentic and YUMMY! The lentil soup is especially good. It is smoky, rich, complex and even at 3 times the price it would be a bargain. The people who run it are also very nice. I have never had any dish at Riyadh's that was not wonderful. Pros: Fantastic Food Cons: I wish it was closer to home or work? more

My new eastside hangout...really good Lebanese food 1/20/2007

This is only my second review. I have been trying to find a place that I could have a group of my friends come to and it would not break the bank. I think I have found it. I have eaten here several times. The food is consistantly good and the owner and the waiters that I have run across really care that you have a good experience. Most of the other middle eastern or Lebanese restaurants in town will not take reservations for large groups...like more than 8 people. They don't seem to be set up for it. This place has a room in the back that they will set up for your group. They are really good with helping you plan if you take a little time. I do recommend that you do it on a week day like I did. I don't know how hard it would be for them to do it well on a weekend. They told me that they could do catering, but I wanted to do it there. The bottom line is the food was great, they treated us well and I recommend it to anyone else who wants to have a birthday or whatever. We were noisy and they didn't care...we had our own space. Good time was had by all. Pros: Good food good service. Cons: Parking is a crunch more

Really authentic Lebanese and very good service...I will return 1/20/2007

I just wanted to give a heads up to all of you who love middle east food. This restaurant has the best falafel in town. The hummas and tabouli are great as well. I have eaten Lebanese food in the US and abroad and Riyadh's is very authentic in the dishes they serve. I love the decor and the food. The service was very friendly and fast. I felt well taken care of. I tried the lamb kabob mezza and was not disappointed. The baklava is really good as well. This is a restaurant that I would highly recommend. The prices are very reasonable and even the wine is of good quality. You won't be disappointed. Pros: Great food, good service, inexpensive pricing, no waiting Cons: None that I can think of more

good food, bad hospitality 1/19/2007

I would, as have the other reviewers, recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a good inexpensive meal. My friend made a reservation for 20 people for her birthday party at 8:30 on a Friday evening. She recieved a call that evening soon before the meal was to take place letting her know that the place closes at 9:00. Since they took the reservation, we assumed that they were just requesting that we not be late. Perfectly understandable. We arrived at 8:30 and the tables weren't ready for us yet. So we stood around contentedly chatting for 15 minutes or so before being sat. Pros: food Cons: service more

Best Lebanese in Portland! 1/12/2007

This is our favorite Lebanese food in Portland! Not only is it the best tasting but also so affordable! If you like falafel, it is the absolute place to be. We live in Seattle and everytime we come to Portland we try to make it to Riyadh's! You gotta try it.... Pros: Best Falafel ever, cheap Cons: Not one in Seattle more

Best Falafel in Portland 1/12/2007

Riyadh's Lebanese restaurant on Hawthorne has been in business for a long time,a tribute to it's success.I have been eating at Riyadh's since it opened and the food keeps on improving by time. The menu reflects Lebanese influence and many dishes are delicious; all are interesting and the presentation is beautiful. The Falafel is by far the best in town thanks to Riyadh's secret recipe of spices from the old country. The Homus and Baba are as good as they can be. Pros: food , ambience, price Cons: parking more

great prices 1/11/2007

A nice small restaurant on Hawthorne. They have a good menu with lots of options and everything is reasonably priced. Go with a couple friends and pick and choose a few different plates so you can all try everything or just order a mezza. The hummus and the tabooli are well made. I recommend any of the lamb plates. They have very good veggie options too. more

good food for less 12/5/2006

Riyadh is an excellent choice for a quick tasteful lunch, that won't break the bank. Pros: convenient location, inexpensive, fast service more

Portland's secret Lebanese gem of a restauraunt 10/22/2006

Riyadh's is the sort of restaurant that you are always looking for; affordable, freshly made and fantastic food. I have been back several times now & have become addicted to the delicately spiced lamb kebabs & shawarma sandwiches. The baba ganouj & tabule are some of the best I have ever tasted. The delightful owner is from a little known area called Damour in Lebanon & subsequently the food has a much more interesting flavour than many of the other Lebanese restaurants that I have tried in Portland. There are some very good Lebanese wines & beers that are well worth trying. Pros: Unbeatable prices for fresh, authentic Lebanese fare. more

Delicous food, welcoming environment, and fast friendly service. 10/18/2006

I visited Riyahds for the first time about 6 months ago. And I am addicted to the falafel. There lamb is moist and delicous as is the chicken. Two amazing things on the menu that are delicously simple yet affordable are The soup and the Hummus. The lentil soup is a mild taste that is smooth as butter, ask for a slice of lemon with your soup and you will be back the next day. The hummus is ten times better than any hummus you will find around. I've talked with the friendly employees and their hummus is made fresh in the kitchen daily. I like to think of it as a taste that is creamy with a hidden flavor of garlic. The pita bread they bring you is toasted and delicous but if you ask for the "greek pita" it's even better. Every thing is good here and affordable. I noticed that Jo_Portland was criticizing the food and service, The way he stereotyped the waitress leads me to a strong feeling of ignorance on his part. Either way the food is delicous people so get down there and folk over the 10 bucks for a delicous dinner. Pros: Fast service, epic food, and cheap prices Cons: can't think of any. more
