Best

We had a delightful Sunday brunch in July and decided to return for dinner in September. The food was excellent, as was the ambiance. Highly recommend!

Worst

Beautiful setting and grounds. The food was good but not great. Our big evening out was almost ruined by a service staff that prety much ignored us and required us on several occa...

Relaxing environment, great food 3/23/2008

I have been here three times......each time I have left just as happy as the time before. May I make a suggestion? Try the Salmon.....it is so wonderful it will melt in your mouth. This last Friday I had anticipated the Salmon dish and was NOT disappointed. Every bite was delectable, along with the specialty drink "The Riverview" which happens to also be one of my faves. The restaurant "mood" is so relaxing with dim lighting, mock candles on each and every table, and a lovely piano tune performed "live". I would highly recommend this for a special date or night out with a loved one. One suggestion though......there was a waitress who worked there who was wearing some really LOUD shoes that clicked very obviously when she "trotted" to and fro, to and fro, to and fro..... across the entire restaurant floor. It was a bit disturbing to hear because it broke the "mood" that the restaurant really sets. All the other employees were wearing "soft sole shoes" that were a lot less conspicuous to those who were dining. Luckily we were pretty easy-going people or I might have had to say something. (: Other than that, the restaraunt is FABULOUS. Just wear those soft heels. (: Pros: ambience, food, service, drinks Cons: loud clicking shoes worn by employees clash with the ambience that is promoted more

Wonderful Banquet Room! Beautiful Restaurant 2/14/2008

We were looking for a location to hold a Dinner Meeting with a large group of Doctors. We found this little gem right in our own backyard!! Our entire group was absolutely thrilled with the beautiful restaurant and cozy little banquet room that we had reserved! Couldn't have been better for what we wanted. The appetizers were great and flavors were wonderful, as were our meals and dessert. I LOVED my alfredo pasta with squash and chicken breast. What a great combo! We are already planning our staff Christmas party as well as any other events we can think of! We had a great time there and would definitely recommend it to others and would be proud to do so. Pros: Beatiful location. Wonderful decorating, as well Cons: A slight delay in getting meals due to miscommunication-partially our fault. more

Made my wedding! 12/28/2007

When looking for a restaurant in Troutdale for our wedding rehersal dinner, we immediately loved Riverview. We wanted classy but not stuffy. The decor, lighting, live piano music, its the perfect place for a romantic ""dressy"" dinner experience. Everyone working there was on top of everything and with a smile. The owner even made a visit to our tables. We used their ""banquet"" room that was complete with a beautiful fireplace. It was so warm and inviting. The lighting was dark but not too dark. That made it romantic and at the same time, comfortable. After dinner, you can take a stroll through their beautiful landscaping on little paths that weave throughout. Everyone in our party had an amazing experience while enjoying a fantastic meal. We will return as often as possible! Thanks Mr. Yoshida! Pros: Ambience, food, service, location. Cons: None! more

Memorable birthday 12/22/2007

A friend from out of town asked us to suggest a nice Eastside restaurant to celebrate his wife's birthday so we picked the Riverview. Our server went out of his way to insure a great experience. The food and wine were delicious and the complimentary dessert was an unexpected treat. A fun and beautiful place to go for a special occasion, especially with a piano player who could play songs on request. I also highly recommend the flatiron steak. It's unbelievable! Pros: Atmosphere, music, service more

Great Customer Service 12/11/2007

I brought my family there for a birthday and our server did an amazing job of making us feel special. The food was well priced for the quality and our dessert was amazing. I cant wait for summer when the deck is re-opened! Pros: Service, Setting Cons: Deck cant be open year round. Not Riverview's fault though! more

Disappointing. Stay Away. Far away. 10/7/2007

This was a horrible restaurant experience for my party of 4. Don't judge a book by it's cover. \r \r >>I tried to contact via email and received no response. \r >>staff upon arrival were unprofessional and joking with each other and swearing \r >>slowwwwwwwww service, not very busy, but lack of experienced staff made it painfully slow\r >>glass had broken chip, waiter looked at it and said ""whoo, that's not good.""\r >>ran out of mint, on a Friday night for their featured drink, mojito\r received meal 1.5 hrs after arrival, all of our potatoes were cold, cold, cold. Probably sitting and waiting for the other portions to be plated We actually sent our dishes back( a first for me) for fresh warm ones hopefully. It seems as though they put them in the oven or microwaved for 10 minutes because we received our same plates back with dried out fish and chicken. Dumb. My dish, pan-seared tuna, was now cooked through, and rubbery. Not a smart move. Disgusting. \r \r We were clearly disappointed, yet there was no help from the waiter to make things ok. It seemed as though the customer is always wrong there. Not the best policy to follow. \r \r \r Do not go there!!! If you do, head straight to the bar, get a mintless drink and have the delicious calamari.\r Pros: setting Cons: everything more

Disappointing experience 9/4/2007

My husband and I plus another couple were there on a Friday night. The place was practically empty. Even so the waiter apologized for our wait since he was busy. Our friend was brought a warm beer - like the bottle had been sitting in the sun. One of the water glasses had lipstick on it. My burger was edible but only because the bun was so good. The meat was way over cooked. The thai noodles were good but for one plate they forgot to but the hot spices in.\r \r The fantastic view of the river doesn't make up for this experience. We won't be back. Pros: Spectacular setting along the river. Cons: Poor quality food, dirty glasses more

Great dining experience in East County!! 4/30/2007

Loved the food! Great service! Diverse menu! My only complaint was the table next to us who kept sending their children to close the door of the restaurant when obviously it was WARM inside! Great drinks! Wonderful appetizers! I just wish we had a special occasion this summer to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings! A little slow with the dessert, but such a wonderful experience! I want to go back soon! Love you, Mr. Yoshida! Pros: great ambiance, beautiful setting, wonderful food!!!!! Cons: a little pricey!!!! more

Eat here and be disappointed 1/14/2007

I was anticipating the opening because it is a great location and such a beautiful restaurant. I watched it being built. When I got the first opportunity to go, I took it. I called and made reservations. I showed up and the receptionist couldn't find my reservations? You have to realize that I made the reservation a week in advance and called an hour before to confirm. There's strike one. After a 15-minute wait, we were seated. The table we were seated at was about 2'-2.5' wide. With the candle, salt & peppershaker, wine glasses, and water glasses, my fiancee and I had no room to read our menus. Our waitress greeted us and our cocktail orders were taken. We promptly received our cocktails and water. We didn't see our waitress again until 20 minutes later when our cocktails and water glasses were empty. She took our food order and filled our water glasses. Forty minutes elapsed after that before we got our food and more water. No explanations or apologies about the delay. There's strike two. When we started in on our food we found that both our meals were cold. There's strike three. My fiancee and I enjoy dining out and we ALWAYS give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. Even after such poor service and less than mediocre food we were going to go back in a months time because stuff happens. Have you ever seen Groundhog Day the movie? Well, the next time we decided to go it was a repeat of the first time! We would have complained to the manager of the restaurant but with the staff of 30+ people not one person stopped by to ask how we were doing, if we needed more water, or how were our meals? The managers stood around taking notes, the wait staff walked by looking but not seeing, and the bus staff walked by with blinders on. I filled out two comment cards, one for each visit, and received a call from the assistant manager for the first visit. I felt compelled to warn other diners since the owner probably did the last review Pros: The setting is beautiful. Cons: Everything but the setting. more

Great food with an incredible location! 9/14/2006

We just had to let fellow diners know what a treasure we found on the banks of the Sandy River! This place not only has amazing atmosphere and class, but a fabulous menu selection along with an extensive wine list. Be sure to try the Calamari appetizer. It is incredible! We were so full after dinner that we weren't able to try anything from the dessert menu, but are definately going to save some room on the next visit. Pros: Definately the great food and location Cons: A little further out for Portlanders, but worth the drive. more

Best Date Night Restuarant 9/14/2006

The staff is friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the ambiance can't be beat. We had a very large group and the service was still unbeatable. I recommend ordering different entrees and sharing so that you can taste a little bit of everything. And you MUST save room for the dessert selections. Pros: The ambiance, the food, the dessert Cons: The drive is worth it! more
