As a Laguna Beach resident, we have dined regularly at Resturante Rumari. Almost everything is homemade by the Crivello family. Antonio, a retired Sicilian fisherman, makes the bread fresh EVERY day. Mama Bina and Antonio make the canoli and tiramisu from the best ingredients. (including fresh marscapone). The fishes are our favorite dishes. The Ahi Picchio (seared ahi) is the house specialty and worth every bite. Vince's recipes are simple, flavorful, and a real experience. \r

We are also very picky about our espresso. Rumari's espresso machine is magic. Ask for a 'proper Italian espresso.' They will make it rich and with the tasty crema (foam) on top. it won't fill up the cup, but don't worry, this is how espresso is made in Sicily and it is MUCH tastier this way.\r
\r
Sicilians also have a tradition of great after-dinner drinks. Try the Averna (herb based) or some Limoncella, if you like something a little sweeter.\r

My wife and I stopped reading the menu long ago. We just ask our waiter to have Vince choose the menu, and then we ask Max for a wine suggestion. We have NEVER been disappointed.\r
\r
Rumari is a wonderful warm atmosphere filled with regulars and guests alike. It is a much a place for a nice home cooked meal as it is for a very special occasion. (We held our wedding rehearsal dinner there).\r

This is not a place to go for the standard fare of lasagna (although it is on the menu). However, for incredibly delicious and authentic Sicilian food with just a bit of local 'spice', this is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys good food in a warm, romantic, atmosphere.
Pros: Food quality, service, wine list
Cons: parking
