Very poor service 3/15/2013

I have been a member for this club for over 2 years. I noticed a lot of items are not updated and lack of maintenance. Very often you will see broken soap dispenser, dirty floors, TVs are not in services machines are out of order. There seems a big problem with this Zumba dance many many people interested in this class but you have to go over there 30 minutes or 45 minutes ahead of the schedule in order to get a ticket to go eat more

Join if you like gyms that suck!!! 12/8/2009

Supplies: towels and cleaning "wipes" for equipment are frequently not available (this is going to happen anywhere from time to time but it is the rule here) Staff: some are quite nice and helpful -- many others seem genuinely put upon just to be there working and it shows in the way they do(or don't do) their jobs. Managers (Clair -- smarmy and ineffective) couldn't care less about the satisfaction of their members and really just want you to go away with any concerns you may address. I never see managers on the floor. I was lied to by the person who signed me up about the rate I was going to be paying -- get anything you agree to in writing. Accounting/billing dept: you will be underserved, they are unresponsive and more than happy to say no to even the most trivial request -- they also could care less about keeping your business. If you get a discounted rate, at first look you are getting value -- BUT -- equipment is rarely updated, often broken with turnaround on repair taking so long that you wonder what the management is really doing to earn their pay. As other reviewers noted -- audio and treadmill displays are broken on many pieces of equipment on the first level(they have been this way FOREVER) Crowding during peak hours has truly become intolerable -- you can't even turn around on the 3rd floor between 5PM and 8:30PM. Bottom line: There are better options out there -- only join if you live accross the street and like poor service at all levels. I am in a countdown for when I will be able to cancel my membership and say good riddance to S&H RIO. more

a wee bit but irritating 5/9/2009

Good: upper gym room. Bad: Small towels are always in short. Suppy of long towels is pathetic. Better bring your own towels. The swimming pool temperature always kept low, I was shivering in the pool all the time. The management never looks seriously into complaints being made and that is very annoying. lower gym room exposes you to all cinema going public.. Improvements: Management should try to become honest. Maintain swimming pool temperature and dont lie about it everytime. Get in more towels. Make members happy, people do not like to pay money to get irritated.. Other: I am tied up atleast 1 year with these buy's, I will try other gyms and if I find a good one I will not hesitate to forgo this SH membership.. more

Great Pricing and Huge Gym!!! 7/3/2007

DON'T LISTEN TO THOSE BAD PEOPLE!!! The parking is really not all that bad; and the place is huge! Even the locker rooms (guys' - I have never been in the women's) has aftershave, shaving cream, hand lotion, a blow dryer, disinfected combs, and q-tips at almost every sink! The gym is undergoing multi-million dollar renovations as well, adding an extra staircase, and will soon have an entire floor primarily for weights; an entire floor primarily for machines, and the AC units have just been updated so the place is really comfortable temperature-wise! Plus, it is somewhere around $50 a month or so, which is not expensive at all when you compare it to the local other gyms that are small and inadequate for working out, and are only a few dollars less. Plus, all the things you get here: the option of certified personal trainers who are really nice and very knowledgeable; the certified massage therapist; the yoga classes; the kick boxing classes; the swim classes; the free group cycling classes; the group exercise programs; the pilates classes; the heated pool and hot tub; and so much more that I can't remember! This is definitely the best gym I have ever been to!!! -Chris more

Expensive and Underwhelming 12/21/2005

The facilities in this gym are average. The price however, is through-the-roof-expensive. The location of the gym isn't that great either. It's right by all these restaurants which entice you to eat a whole lot right after you've finished exercising. Your stench coming out from the gym might even make them lose their appetite. Also, parking is atrocious as people come in flocks to Rio as a whole. more

Big but Expensive 8/19/2005

This place is really big and great if you are a fitness buff. But, boy , are they expensive! We paid $90 a month for a membership, which now seems like a whole lot of money since we just go to our community clubhouse at our new apartment. Plus, it kind of sucks to have to park with all those shoppers and movie goers when you just want to run a couple of minutes on a treadmill. Basically, this place is for those who really love to work out. more
