I actually switched to Riner Animal Hospital from Town and Country Vet in Christiansburg a couple of years ago. My dog had an infection and had to go back to T&C several times b/c they did not give the right meds and I was charged an exam fee everytime I had to bring her back in (3 times in one week!) I was also waiting in the waiting room for an hour even when I had an appointment. After that I switched to Riner Animal Hospital. \r When I took my dog, a neighbor in vet school had convinced me that she had a mast cell tumor and needed an expensive biopsy. The vet I worked with suggested that we rule out small problems before we did something that costly and invasive. Turns out she just had a little skin infection and we were able to clear it up with some cheap meds. I am glad that they didn't jump right to the costly procedure that I was pushing for.\r My experience with the Riner Animal Hospital since then has been nothing but wonderful. Rude, non compassionate, overinflated prices...these vets will run every test that you are willing to pay for, then gouge you if you push them to give you an estimate for any intricate and surgical care your animal may need.\r \r I believe they are good vets, however, ONE of the female vets is beyond rude, arrogant and will charge you double if you question her fees. They are not forthright with cost of care and very defensive if asked. My husband was talked to "like a dog" by this vet after asking for an estimate for surgery.\r \r If you can't treat people with compassion and honesty during the potential end of their beloved pet's life, how do you think these people will treat your animal? \r \r Try Companion or Dr jones in Blacksburg.
