Horribly Baffling Experience Middleton Store 5/11/2010

I tried to order an ice cream soda for my son (after we had hot dogs and lime rickeys there). What I ordered was a mocha soda, and for those who are unfamiliar: soda water, coffee syrup, chocolate syrup and ice cream. I was asked what I wanted for ice cream and said coffee and chocolate - as I have it made everywhere else (Brigham's for one) - and was told that was a virtual impossibility. Stunned, I asked why, and was told that they can't split up the scoop of ice cream. I thought they were kidding. So, I asked again, but was told repeatedly no, that I could have mocha chip instead. With two children (4 and 2) in tow, and being 8 months pregnant I really couldn't believe I was being denied this simple request. So, I left with nothing and then called the store and spoke to the manager. He knew exactly who I was and reinforced their no splitting of ice cream policy. Even after I told him they had lost a customer I got no form of compassion or regret. The only ""apology"" I got was in a sarcastic tone, something to the effect of, ""I'm sorry, but this is how we do it"". I was so upset and confused by the lack of reasoning and helpfulness-- so upset in fact that I will NOT go back there and have told all of my friends and acquaintances. And after all of that, my son didn't get his ice cream!!! Pros: cows Cons: lines, rude management more

a rebuttal to boycott the Richardson's 8/13/2008

To the boycott the Richardsons: Do you have a degree in animal science? You do not! I do! Have you ever heard of fat cow disease? Fatty livers in cows? Anybody knows that a lean animal is in far better health than a fat animal, which includes humans! Do you know what ketosis is? Probably not! I know for a fact that these animals are on a specific diet that is handled by a nutritionist. They have a ration that is done for the lactating cows(milking), dry cows (cows that are getting ready to calf that will begin to milk after calving), heifers (little cows that are not ready to milk). They test the feed on a monthly basis to make sure that the rations are balanced. Are you following me yet. You have no clue what you are talking about. So do what you do best and let the Richardsons do there job. Which by the way, is done to maintain superior health for their animals. Any questions? more

Awesome ice cream, fun place to take the family 6/7/2008

ARGUABLY THE BEST ICE CREAM IN THE WORLD 7/11/2006

Honestly, those who look down on Richardson's do NOT know what they are talking about. They offer more than 80 diffferent ice creams, and have grown so large and popular that they ship their ice cream to more than 500 accounts. They even have a second location in a Jordan's FUrniture in Reading. The difference is their base for the ice cream. With it being so thick and creamy, it out duels anything else. TRUST ME. Richardson's knows ice cream. the kiddie is huge the small is bigger and the large is outrageously big, and the price? Richardson's sells their ice cream at more quality, quantity, and for a price nearly 50 cents to dollars cheaper. They offer many 1/2 gallons in their indoor refridgerator that is accessible and you can even buy a 3 gallon tub for the right price. HANDS DOWN, the ice cream is amazing. Other places will be fancy and over priced and undersized, but Richardson' simply is the best overall. Let's call them the Lance of Ice Creams Worldwide. Pros: Friendly service, Quality and Various Ice Creams Cons: ABSOLUTELY NONE more

REAL Ice Cream 9/22/2005

Richardsons is amazing. From your first bite, you can TASTE the authenticity of fresh ice cream. Not to mention the herd of cows in the back that you can thank for the quality milk. The summers are the ""hangout"". Its great to see babies there, to teenagers (who are quite hip by the way), to elders, to big and tough bikers that conglomerate for a massive scoop of ""small"" ice cream. Its worth the trip. And if you dont want ice cream, there is are two 18-hole mini golf courses, a huge driving range and batting cages. There is no particular type of person that comes here, everyone does. Pros: Quality, Outdoor Activities, CLEAN Cons: Frappes are eh more

Incredible 6/13/2004

One of the beauties of living in New England is being able to experience great ice cream, and an abundance of it. I have to say, Richardson's is the best I've had so far. The quality is unmatchable, and the setting of the golf course is a perfect place to go with the kiddies on a hot summer night. Plenty of room to walk around to enjoy your icecream. I don't think you can get any fresher than this place. The cows are in their back yard! The portions are huge, and the value is very good. If you like coconut, I recommend the almond joy. Oh lord, it's sinful. Enjoy... more

DOESN'AN GET BETTER THAN THIS! 6/12/2004

Ice cream is my number one favorite indulgence. I've tried many different venues all over Boston and the North Shore area. Richardson's by far is the best ice cream, best service, best innovative flavors I've ever experienced. Don't be intimidated by the many lines you'll see there. They have so many employees working at all times - you get in and out very quickly. Great first date place - they have mini-golf, driving range, and batting cages. If you haven't tried it - It's a MUST TRY! Pros: FLAVOR, FUN, SERVICE more

Naturally Natural 5/20/2004

Besides the best ice cream on the planet and plenty of entertainment (i.e golf, batting cages, etc.) the thing that keeps me coming back to Richardson's is the old-fashion small farm operation. They do not use growth hormones nor antibiotics in their cattle. Also they sell fresh milk about $1/gal cheaper than mass produced store brands. This place is a jewel in a sea of sand! Pros: All Natural, Entertainment, Delicious more

Mooin' in Middleton 7/24/2003

I have been coming to Richardson's since I could barely eat ice cream! With over 55 flavors of ice cream, sorbet, 95% fat free frozen yogurt and no sugar added yogurt, Richardson's just doesn't compare. Not only does Richardson's have great food, Mr. Richardson and his business donate a lot of time, money and supplies to the town of Middleton! Great ice cream with great prices at a great location with a overly generous owner, now what can be better than that?!?! Pros: inexpensive, huge servings, great location more

Not Just Ice-Cream, it's a day out! 2/23/2003

I love it! I have NEVER had a bad experience there. (I'm very picky,so I can't believe there is a place out there that serves well consistently, but Richardson's does) I have been going there since I was a kid. Now, I bring my kids there. It's a great place to spend the day. They have 2 great mini-golf courses. My 6yr-old loves the batting cages. Or just come and whack a bucket of balls on the driving range. (My 2yr-old loves to play on the practice putting green). When your all done playing, enjoy their great ice-cream. We always get the kiddy because the portions are BIG! The texture and taste is just what I crave. During the winter, I like to take home thier 1/2 gallon tubs for the freezer. After reading these comments, I'm in the mood for some, I'm going to the fridge now....mmmm...mmmmm....good! Pros: Great Ice Cream, Family Fun, Great Service more

Wow -- Way overrated! 12/5/2002

While I have spent *way* too much time at Richardsons, enjoying a cone and visiting their petting zoo with my kids, anyone calling this ""exceptional"" ice cream is out of their minds. Good, yes, but it doesn't compare to the super premium stuff that's available at Denise's or Christina's. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, but it's just above average, certainly not the best in the area. Pros: petting zoo, mini golf, batting cages Cons: long lines, slow service more

#1 Ice Cream 10/25/2002

This is in response to ""Are you kidding?"" When I see Richardson's Ice Cream described as ""average at best"" I just can't believe my eyes! I wonder if we are even referring to the same place and product. What could be better than delicious homemade ice cream that starts right with their own cows? It is PHENOMINAL! Richardson's is a perfect place to visit for ice cream lovers of all ages. It has been the place to go for generations and we are fortunate to have such an extraordinary place in our area. Pros: great service, great atmosphere, GREAT ICE CREAM Cons: absolutely none more

World's Best Ice Cream 10/25/2002

As a mother of 4, Richardson's Dairy is our ice cream stand of choice. Not only do they have the best ice cream we've ever tasted, but they also provide a family-friendly atmosphere. The facility is extremely clean, which you almost never see these days. The lines move quickly and the service is impeccable. I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area! Pros: delicious ice cream, fast moving lines, variety of activities more

old favorite 10/14/2002

RICHARDSONS IS STILL AS POPULAR AS IT WAS 20 YEARS AGO, AND TODAY, IT IS EVEN MORE OF HANGOUT AND AS MY BROTHER CALLS IT""A PLACE TO PICK UP HOT CHICKS"". I REMEMBER COMING HERE AFTER A LONG DAY AT THE BEACH, BRINGING THAT SAME BROTHER, WHO WAS 2 AT THE TIME, TO SEE THE COWS. I GUESS YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD FOR THIS PLACE- GREAT ICE CREAM, GOLF RANGE FOR THE ""OLD FOLKS"" AND A BIG PARKING LOT FOR THE TEENAGERS TO CHECK EACH OTHER OUT ! THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS :) Pros: GOOD ICE CREAM, FAMILY ATMOSPHERE, LARGE PARKING AREA Cons: TEENAGERS, THE SMELL OF THE COWS more
