Editorial review from Citysearch 3/24/2013

I had a pretty terrible experience. I first saw Dr. Rhodes when I was pregnant with my daughter. She was one of my favorites in the practice and I was very happy that she was the one to deliver my daughter. Everything was great until my postpartum follow-ups. During my pregnancy it was discovered that I have a septate (heart-shaped, slightly divided) uterus. It can cause some pretty serious complications during pregnancy. Fortunately the only one I experienced was that my daughter was breech and had to be delivered by C-section. When it came time to discuss postpartum birth control, I asked Dr. Rhodes about Mirena, a hormonal intrauterine form of birth control that prevents pregnancy for up to five years. It would be great not to have to worry about taking a pill every day! I asked if it would still be effective with my septate uterus. Dr. Rhodes very clearly said that it wouldn't be a problem and I had it placed. Two weeks later I went back for an ultrasound to check its placement. It was placed in the right ""horn"" of my uterus but I was told that since the connection between my right and left sides was pretty big that I should still be covered. Then two hours later I got a call from the ultrasound tech saying that she'd spoken with another doctor in the practice who said that Mirena might NOT be effective in my case and that it was still quite possible for me to get pregnant on my left side (which is where my daughter had been implanted and so may be my more fertile side anyway). The tech said that all the doctors were going to discuss my case and that I would get another call back within a couple of days but to use backup protection in the meantime. Okay. A few days went by and I didn't hear a word, so I started attempts to get in touch with someone in the office myself. An entire week went by, with both my husband and I attempting to call each day, before a nurse finally called me back. She said that Dr. Rhodes had signed off on my chart and again said that everything should be fine because of the connection between the two sides of my uterus. I asked, ""What about the phone call from the tech who spoke with another doctor who said it might not be fine?"" A brief pause from the nurse, who then said, ""Well, nothing about that is noted anywhere on your chart. But don't worry, everything's fine!"" I decided then to go elsewhere for a second opinion. I didn't want to learn the hard way that my birth control was ineffective! The doctor I spoke with at a different practice said that he would absolutely never, under any circumstances, insert Mirena into someone with my condition because he would never be able to say with 100% certainty that it would be effective. He removed it for me then and there, and I'm back on my trusty pill. Thank goodness no physical harm came to me because of misguidance from Dr. Rhodes, but it did cause weeks of stress and me feeling like a moron for trusting her so completely. Be careful! more

Love this Doctor 11/25/2008

Dr Tiffany Rhodes is very nice with a very good bedside manner. She delivered my daughter at Saint Francis, she has done several of my physicals. I would recommend her. Pros: personality, professionalism, knowledge Cons: wait in waiting room a couple of times due to an emergency delivery more
