Best

Really fun rendition of a German-style castle. It feels huge, but cozy and the food is really good. The staff all love the cabbage rolls, but the wienerschnitzel is my fave. Graci...

Worst

We went on Thanksgiving day and had to wait 1.5 HOURS AFTER OUR RESERVATION TIME for our food. Then the food was mediocre at best! Some manager came around and asked us if it was ...

The Rheinlander was so fun last night! I took my wife there for our 13th anniversary. She had never been there, and I hadn't been there since a German class field trip about 19 years ago. My wife wasn't too excited about it, which made me nervous, but I remembered it being a neat place, so we went anyway. As soon as we walked it, she started to change her mind. It has a cute decor, and we got a nice little quiet table in a corner. I could have stuffed myself on the complimentary fondue they bring as an appetizer. It was also cool to be able to try the beer/wine samplers. The food was fantastic, and the singing was great. The service was outstanding, and I gave the guy one of the biggest tips I've ever given. My wife and I will definitely go there again sometime. Pros: Fun Singing Waiters, Great food, Excellent Service Cons: Little warm inside, ~$18/dinner, , but well worth it more

My favorite place in Portland. I've been there at least a half dozen times and have never failed to have a great time. It's an absolutely fun and positive atmosphere where you can't help but have fun. Even if you don't like to sing, it's really nice to see such vibrancy. Pros: Fun, atmosphere, participatory more

I've been to Reinlanders at least 8 times, in the past 30 years, and have never had a bad experience. I just wish I lived closer, as I would visit there, much more often. The Sunday brunches are super. The waite staff have to audition for their jobs. They have to have very good voices, and sing in German, as well. The meals are delicious, with a large selection, to choose from. There is nothing bad about this place, except, the parking could be better. The most important thing, I almost forgot, is their ""Cheese Fondue"", is out of this World. Pros: Very fine food, Entertainment is #1, Atmosphere is Germany Cons: needs more parking, less crowded parking more

Good Expensive Fun! 2/9/2003

I just went here for my 21st birthday and the staff was really nice. The drinks were good, but the lemon drop was not my favorite; a bit too strong for me. I asked the waiter for a suggestion and he made a really good one, this yummy coffee drink called a BFK. I suggest you go there for happy hour because the food is just too pricey. But, if you like German food and beer, then this is the place for you. Also really fun for a birthday party too. They sing to you and feed you dessert....I would have paid for that alone! PS-the waitstaff were pretty darn cute also:-) Pros: servers, people, drinks Cons: parking, noisy more

I couldn't believe how much food i got for what I paid! I went for the early dinner specials and paid $10 for a huge 3 course meal that was to die for. The atmosphere was the cutest and the music was wonderful! There are some real talented singers that work there! Remember to call ahead! Nice setting... HORRIBLE service 5/23/2002

It really pains me to write a negative review about a local establishment. However; I feel that I need to warn fellow Portlanders about this place. My wife and I went to the Rheinlander to celebrate our wedding anniversery. The service that we encountered that evening was THE WORST that we have both EVER received anywhere. I don't want to "badmouth" the entire restaurant, but our waiter was the rudest, most self-centered, arrogant man we have ever met. My wife and I left after waiting more than a half hour for our water to be served after we were already seated. I was raised by Germans, and I would feel terrible if any of my family/friends would waste their hard earned money on such people. If you want really nice authentic german food in Portland, I personally recommend going to the Edleweiss Deli, and their Black Forest restaurant. Ein Prosit! more
