My Favorite Restaurant 2/8/2011

My husband took to Jezebel to celebrate my birthday, I almost canceled but we ended up going anyways and I was thrilled. The service was great and the food was exquisite. They are very accommodating regarding menu modifications and special requests. It was a great night. The staff even gave me a greeting card for my birthday! Great Night! We might be celebrating valentine days there as well :-D more

Excellent service, not so great food 1/15/2010

I so wanted to like this place as I had read so many raves about it. No doubt they have a very romantic candlelit setting with great music and the service was the best I have had in Austin. The food - just not good at any level. We started with the beef tartar and calamari. The beef tasted like raw ground round with wasabi - terrible texture. The calamari was rubbery and bland. The salad was good - had a nice dressing and tasty berries on a bed of greens. I had the risotto which was incredibly salty and my husband had the lamb shank - uneventful at best. Like I said, we really wanted to like this place because of the wonderful staff and atmosphere but it just didn't make the grade:( Pros: very romantic - best service in austin-great wine Cons: food was bland and boring more

One of my best meals ever 1/25/2009

Everything about our meal was wonderful and interesting.\r It started with olives that had been prepared and served slightly warm making them soft and flavorful.\r The calamari was sauteed with olive oil, lemon, garlic, and capers; perfect.\r I had the braised lamb shank and my wife had sea bass. The lamb was perfect and the sea bass was the best ever\r We are from Boston and would consider returning to Austin just for another meal at Jezebel. Pros: Best food in town more

Best restaurant in Texas 1/9/2009

I can't say enough about this restaurant...it has everything that someone who loves food and to eat out would want. Let's start with the decor and ambiance...very modern and classy. I think one of the other reviewers explained it perfectly - like eating at a museum. The art work and the music give the environment a relaxed, initimate feeling that is hard to beat. The service was professional, efficient and knowledgeable. The waitstaff were very attentive but without being overbearing. Last but certainly not least, the food was spectacular. I started with the steak tartar appetizer, had the filet mignon and finished off this heavenly meal with french toast for dessert. I couldn't have asked for a better meal in terms of quality and freshness of the ingredients. Everything was cooked to perfection and served very quickly given how busy the restaurant was that night. I can't recommend this place enough. I would come back (and I will) in a heartbeat. The food, service and quality is worth the price...you definitely get what you pay for. Pros: Everything more

Good but Flawed and Expensive 1/1/2009

We recently ate at this restaurant and found the food to be good but definitely not excellent like had been advertised. The cook is apparently still learning and on many dishes puts a sweet sauce on that ruins the taste. The night we were there they reversed our order with another table and it was very hard to get it corrected. I said something to the cook, who I know, and he said ""sometimes that happens"". No apology, no nothing. That was very disappointing, because a first class restaurant would have immediately apologized and probably sent over a desert or glass of wine, but we got ""sometimes that happens"" and the bill was never corrected. Jezebel is getting the reputation of an over priced place that only lobbyist go to! And that is not a compliment. For less money I would go to Jeffery's where a new chef is getting rave reviews. Pros: Plenty of nudes on the wall in a bombed out building! Cons: Overpriced with sweet sauce on everything and a rude cook! Looks like Iraq! more

Good Appitizers 9/25/2008

The Appetizers were awesome, the main courses were good just not $35 good. A wonderful experience just overpriced in my opinion. Pros: Great apps more

Great service and food! 9/1/2008

Wow! My husband and I love food and we've been trying to find some new and interesting places in Austin. We definately found it with Jezebel. The service was excellent. The waitress suggested a really great wine for our food (she also brought three other bottles to the table for consideration). The food was fabulous. The dessert was spectacular. We had the french toast and could not have asked for a more perfect ending to the meal. The attention to detail, service and quality of food will have us visiting Jezebel again. Pros: Great food and unbelievable service Cons: Small seating area (can be loud when packed) more

All Around AMAZING!!!!! 4/15/2008

Restaurant Jezebel cannot be passed up! I have never written a review before, but realized that something needs to be said after eating here. The service was perfect, and the food was phenomenal. If you want a quick bite, then this is not the place to go. My family and I eat out very often, and we have come to realize that there is nothing worse than being rushed by a waiter. It is European style service, so they do not bring you your bill until you request it. We spent three wonderful hours here, laughing, and sampling everything in our reach. Our waiter was very friendly, and gave us great wine recommendations. Parind Vora is a master at his work. Each plate was beautifully presented, and tasted divine. The cuisine is quite French, so a person who does not have the palette for fine, exotic, rich, food needs so be prepared. French cuisine is a favorite of mine, and Jezebel happens to be one of the most authentic restaurants a person can go to. This eatery is a new favorite, and needs more notoriety. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! Pros: Service, Ambience more

amazing, amazing,amazing 4/12/2008

We passed by, liked the menu so we walked in. It was unbelievable. we had a 7 course menu. we were not prepared for course after course or incredible combinations and variety of foods and flavors. they even gave us a cheese course after we had our seven course because we wanted some cheese. It is by any standard, anywhere one of the best meals to be had in Austin. we let them choose the wine. If I could eat there every day I be they would not make us the same thing twice. My boyfriend is from Italy and not easily impressed. we will be back Pros: great food, service and art Cons: too many choices on the menu and wine list more

WOW 4/7/2008

This was probably the best meal we have ever had. My wife & I have eaten through out the US and a lot in Europe. I am pretty taken aback that there is a restaurant this good in Austin. From the moment we stepped in to the choclate truffles at the end of our meal. Everything, and I do mean everything was amazing. Our service was great. Polite and it seemed that they actually wanted to know our preferences first before suggesting anything. They were out of our first choice of wine (it happens to us everywhere!) but once we settled on a choice the entire experience was stellar! Will be back. Often and soon. Pros: total experience Cons: valet would have helped more

More American style service would be nice 4/6/2008

The service started out fine but went downhill during the 45 minute wait between our appetizer and main courses. There was no explanation or acknowledgment of the long wait and very little attention during that time. It wasn't until after our meal was served that our server mentioned that the kitchen had gotten backed up. While understandable, at least recognize the annoyance during the long wait and offer more bread if not extra sympathy. The food itself was excellent and we were excited about dessert and coffee but decided not to order it after it took 15 minutes to get the dessert menus from the time we asked for them. I like the concept of a ""European"" style dining experience where you are afforded the opportunity to linger over your meal, but I need some American style prompt service, too. Pros: Good food Cons: Bad service more

Not so great food or service with a hefty price 1/23/2008

I went there with a group of friends for my birhtday and we were all very disappointed. The dining area is small. The wait staff was very slow. We waited over 30 minutes to have our waters filled. Our food was either too salty or too bland. We got a special dessert made for the party and it looked like a pile of mud slabbed on a plate. My friends and I will not be returning to this place at all. Pros: Parking in the lot across the street Cons: Service, food, and space more

best we've had in a while 1/19/2008

finally, a fine dining restaurant where the food tastes like something. My wife and I ate there Fri. and I am impressed. Everything was very good. Had a real good ""feel"" inside. Good Service (non-disruptive, invisible,polished).\r Food was fantastic. Big flavors. My wife said ""It was like being in a movie"". We did feel very VIP. The wine took a few min. The chef came out to help find it in the cabinet. other than that a ""10"" . I am really amazed that food this good is to be had in Austin.\r I would recommend it highly. Pros: great food, surroundings, sevice Cons: nothing that really mattered, maybe a better system for getting the wine more

Great Customer Service delicious food! 1/19/2008

I celebrated my 30th birthday there. Not only did they wish me a happy birthday everytime I called to change the reservations, but I percieved no qualms about them doing so. My foie gras was amazing and my Osso Bucco was the best i ever had. It is a pricey restaurant, but if you have the money it will be well spent. Pros: Deliciousness Cons: Expensiveness more

A bad beginning to 2008 1/4/2008

Home made salmon gravlox with passion fruit aioli\r ( I tasted more mayonaiise than passion fruit)\r Truffled Cinderella pumpkin bisque with Chipotle oil and sweet Basil\r ( This soup was so overwhelming I couldn't even finish it)\r \r Intermezzo: sorbet \r ( Sorbet with acai was like coffee grounds with no flavor) Everyone had this except one person in our party.\r \r Main Course: please choose one\r \r Whole 1 ? pound Maine Lobster (shelled completely)\r \r sauteed and served with a Meyer lemon ? Spanish caviar beurre blanc \r (The caviar was so scant, it didn't even count) Half of the lobster was over cooked.\r \r or\r \r Roasted prime grade filet mignon, with smoked blue cheese &\r Tomatillo ? lavender demi - glaze\r \r ( There was no hint of smoked blue cheese or tomatillo with this dish and the dressing on the greens was a complete miss. Did the chef throw a bunch of flash cards in a hat and randomly pull out flavor pairings? Lavender demi glaze with smokey blue and tomatillo?? I didn't taste any of that..\r \r Dessert: white chocolate and rose petal mousse \r \r with pink guava and black pepper creme anglaise \r ( all the guest had this dessert except one.The waitstaff didn't even bother to ask if he wanted it or not.)\r \r Mignardises\r \r Twice, we were shorted one of the offerings. We were seated at the 6:00 round and by no means should have been given anything different from the menu. No one informed us of the changes. The two children in our party had no other choices but steak and lobster for 85 dollars a pop . I would not recommend this place to anyone. Not even a Los Angeles transplant. Pros: Bringing your own wine is allowed with a corkage fee. Cons: the food. more

Worst Experience in 27 Years 12/9/2007

I have never written a review before, but I have never had this bad of a meal and service before!\r \r This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant in Austin. After we were seated, it took 15 minutes to be greeted by a waitress. Then, she proceeded to take our food order before offering us a drink... Once we ordered a bottle of wine it took another 15 minutes (and us to ask for it again) for it to be delivered to our table. \r \r We were dining at Jezebel for a friend's birthday so it was a special dinner. My meal was awful to say the least. How can you mess up crab cakes??? I ordered the crab cakes for my meal. The FIRST set of crab cakes came out beautiful until I took my second bite. The first bite was nice and warm. The second bite (towards the middle of the crab cake) was COLD!!! I mean just came out of the fridge cold! So, I sent them back. They were nice and brought out a fresh order of crab cakes. Giving them the benefit of the doubt I tried again. They appeared to be very hot and looked yummy, but once again they were ICE COLD on the inside. Not once, but TWICE!!! Needless to say, I sent them back... AGAIN! A new waiter came over after I sent them back and asked if I wanted anything else on the menu. By this time, the other members in our party were about done and my meal was ruined entirely, so I told him not to worry about it. \r \r There are 100 other restaurants in Austin that are a million times better for your money! \r \r I feel I must add that although the service on the part of the waitress' was awful, the manager (who started less than 2 weeks ago) tried to redeem his restaurant by taking my meal off of the bill along with the bottle of wine that we waited forever for. Very nice on his part; although I would have NEVER paid for my meal anyway. \r \r I am glad to see that other people had a nice dining experience, but this is one I will never suggest anyone try. Cons: everything about our meal from the service to the actual meal more

uniquely a great experience 9/6/2007

You know this was really great. We havent had this good a experience (food and service) in a very long time. we just moved back to Austin and I am surprised by all the new places. But our dinner tonight was amazing, we had a melt in your mouth filet mignon, sweetbreads (really tender and creamy); interesting combinations- the sweetbreads were served with tuna; dont know how but it worked. After living in Europe I really felt comfortable with the service (we were never rushed). They did not even bring the bill till we asked. That only happens in Europe! The portions were big and so were the flavors. Winelist was amazing. We wanted to try a wine they do not normally sell by the glass. They opened it for us. no problem. I am pretty impressed. will report back after trying again but so far so great Pros: really great experience Cons: nothing really on this night more

Good Food, Horrible Service - Not Worth The Money 9/6/2007

My wife and I rarely get out together without kids. When we do, we prefer to go to upscale restaurants to treat ourselves and be pampered. We own an online gourmet food store: Gourmet Grocery Online, so we like to checkout exquisite gourmet dining establishments in town.\r \r We finally had a ""date night"", and I thought after seeing Jezebel's website and how they tout of great things, naturally we were excited. We went on a Friday night (8/31/07). I should have known that after waiting 15 mins before we had any contact from a waiter that the evening was headed south. The restaurant was not full. We saw our waiter carry on casual conversation with another waiter for at least 10 mins before he approached our table to take a drink order. The service was slow an inadequate for an ""upscale"" establishment. Our table was wobbly and needed a few sugar packets under a table leg to keep it level.\r \r All of the food was decent. We started off with foie gras. We also ordered the Chateaubriand and lamb shank. We skipped dessert because we were so disgusted with the service. We were also disappointed with the wine selection. Yes they have a large wine list, but I personally like to try different wines during my meal. Jezebel only offers 4 or 5 wines by the glass. Plan on spending over $100.00 for a decent wine. \r \r This is a want-to-be five-star establishment. Ranks more like a two-star. We have had better service and food at Trulucks, Reeds, Sullivan?s, etc. \r \r The kicker is the bathroom! Floor to ceiling Astro Turf!! So tacky! Bring your putter. \r \r All in all, not worth the money we spent. Pros: Decent food Cons: Horrible service more

Interesting Place 9/2/2007

The atmosphere is nice as is the service. The steak was ok, but the lamb and lobster were excellent. Desserts get the biggest thumbs up here more

Amazing food and service 8/21/2007

Restaurant Jezebel is a rare find in Austin. I have never found the combination of outstanding food, top quality service and a hospitable environment in one restaurant. I had heard about Restaurant Jezebel all the way in Colorado. My friends who have been kept telling me how great it was. So, I decided to stop in Austin on my way back from a vacation in Europe. I can say that the restaurant lives up to all the glowing reviews and in my opinion, exceeds them. \r \r I started off with the lobster bisque with foie gras and sea urchin as appetizers. I then went on to have the suckling pig and sea bass with shrimp as my main course. Words cannot describe how amazing the food was. Chef Vora's style, presentation and taste left me speechless. I just returned from a month long vacation in Europe and I never had a meal there that could hold a candle to what I experienced at Restaurant Jezebel. This place is a real find for anyone who enjoys great food and attention to detail. It seems that every last detail was thought out and anticipated to what would serve the customer best. I cannot say enough about this restaurant.\r \r I can only hope that Chef Vora will one day decide to leave Austin and come to Boulder, Colorado...if he does, I will be first in line for a reservation. All I can say is, I hope the people of Austin know how lucky they are to have such an unique and innovative restaurant in their city. Pros: Food, Service, Attention to detail, Quality Cons: I can't think of any more
