city quality at suburban price! 10/8/2007

this place is really good! the food quality rivals that of city restaurants that charge twice as much. definately recommended if you find yourself in the area. the fish is very fresh, rolls are creative, the staff is very friendly and the decor is nice (traditional japanese, from what i can tell). my wife and i read about this place on citysearch and decided to check it out after seeing a movie at the drive-in in city of industry. we were very satisfied and would definately go again. Pros: ample parking, great service, fresh fish Cons: too far from my house more

Pretty Good! 9/18/2007

Overall this place is pretty good. So far its the best sushi restaurant around this area, more authentic,..less California roll like. But if you are looking for top quality sushi, you have to go to la for the best of the best. Pros: Good authentic sushi Cons: Lil pricey more

Great sushi without the drive 6/7/2007

Being a person that does not even like cooked fish, it is interesting that I crave the sushi from Hayakawa. They use high quality ingredients and have an attention to detail. There are many inexpensive sushi restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, but this is a place that is worth the extra money. The quality is outstanding. Try the salmon (it is like butter) and the spicy tuna roll. more

Best sushis east of Downtown LA 9/28/2006

Chef Hayakawa has received classical French culinary training. You can taste his attention to details and high quality ingredients in every dish. I highly recommend the Omakase if you're in for an adventure. All the sushis range from good to exceptional. For the cooked food types, the broiled Chilean Seabass is also excellent. The only item I'd consider average is the New Style Sashimi. The service is always excellent and the ambience romantic. Pros: Pretty much everything on the menu Cons: Located in an unremarkable strip mall more

Nice restaruant in the area 4/10/2006

This is a japanese owned restaurant. We walked in around 8:30pm just before they're about to close the kitchen, we still managed to get the food we want before the kitchen close. We had soft shell crab, sweet shrimp, kampachi, uni, toro (just ok), taco, salmon roe, monkfish liver, california hand roll and spicy tuna handroll. The overall price is around $80 for two, it's not the top notch quality, but it is fresh and nice quality. Pros: Nice sashimi, ambience more

Who needs Nobu??? 9/18/2002

Hayakawa, in a pretty modest strip mall way out in the burbs, has food that rivals Nobu Matsuhisa's output on either coast and costs half as much. Trust the chef, order to omakase (chef's choice) meal and a bottle of sake, and walk out in ecstacy for under $60 a person... UNBELIEVABLE. more
