Best

For us non-celebrities who don?t want to wait in line two hours to get into a dance club, M Lounge above Republic restaurant is a great place to go. It maintains an upscale, chic ...

Worst

Went out on a saturday night to celebrate my buddy's bday and got a table. There were 6 of us to begin wtih and were expecting a couple other people to join us later,so we started...

Wow what a dump and I heard they went chapter 11 9/25/2008

Serves them right. Horrible food and an attitude problem. They focused too much on trying to squeeze every dollar out of guests rather than making them feel welcome. The club was also horrible with a lousy crowd. Glad they are closed down. Pros: THEY ARE CLOSED FOREVER!!!!! Cons: EVERYTHING ABOUT THE DUMP more

Worst night ever - lots of fights 9/16/2008

We visited this bar on a sat night, they made us buy a table but didnt even give us any bottles with the table. The waitress took forever to show up, she probably only showed up twice the whole night. $6 test tube shots are overcharge and very weak. drinks are very small and water down! There was 4 fights broke out that night and we found out that they escort the person who start the fight back into the club!!! they escort the person who was beaten for no reason out of the club!! WTF?! We later found out that whoever start the last 4 fights were the same group of ppl and they are probably friends of the owner. At the end of the night one of our girls tried to use the bathroom, but they wouldnt even let us back in to use the bathroom, we were not even out of the club yet and they wouldnt let us back in! this place is overly hyped, totally not worth the experience!!! Pros: maybe you can find cute girls there.. lots of girls wearing skimmpy outfit Cons: fights all over the place, overpriced drinks, bad waitress, expensive, overhyped, horrible bouncer, bad vibe more

Fun place! 9/4/2008

I like this club. Yes, it's not as hot as it once was, but who cares??? You come with your friends and dance to great music. I don't know how the line situation works because whenever I come, I come with people who get me in, but I do know that it's so fun inside. Plus they have an open roof, so it's not hot. more

Unnecessary long lines, more like a backyard upscale party than a bar 8/23/2008

A great way to start off with a bad impression is to have a potentially paying customer wait in line for 50-60 minutes when the place inside has enough room for everyone in the line plus some. I understand you want to have a line outside to make it appear that your place is legit and popular, but once you go inside you find out the truth. Upstairs, the actual M Lounge, has a nice decor to it, but it's too small to comfortable fit 50. It's probably half the size of Library Bar. So most of the time you're stuck downstairs in the Reveal part of Republic. It's all outside (which is neat), the DJ was good, and the service at the bar was quick. But I need something more. There's no place to sit at all (unless you get bottle service and even then they are just couches on the sides of the wall). You're force to stand and kind of awkwardly dance, although there's no dance floor - meaning that you and your group could be dancing, but everyone else around you will just be standing. Really, this place is just a failed bar that they're trying to make into a quasi-dance club. Just avoid this place. Pros: Fastest bar service I've gotten in LA yet Cons: Bad lines, inadequate bathrooms, terrible setup more

One of my favorite clubs in L.A. 6/12/2008

For us non-celebrities who don?t want to wait in line two hours to get into a dance club, M Lounge above Republic restaurant is a great place to go. It maintains an upscale, chic atmosphere while not being pretentious about picking who gets in. The bar extends the entire width on the long, rectangular room, while opposite, a glass wall gives a peak down into the restaurant below. Party-goers sip drinks and dance as the DJ plays a mix of hip-hop and Top 40 tunes. M Lounge is one of my favorite places to go to on the whole Hollywood party scene. more

Best Fine Dining Joke 6/8/2008

Ive never reveiwed a restaurant before but these "amazing" reviews were too amusing not to refute. "best ambiance" "world class dining" lmao are u kidding? I took my best friend there for her birthday and it was nicely decorated (but which place in LA really isnt?) the food was good, i mean, MOST DEFINITELY NOT worth the price. She was turning 21 at the time and i was 20 and even to our inexperienced pallets the diner wasnt "amazing." but on the other hand, it was good and our waitor was really funny. if you're looking to spend beacoup le mange (lots of money), go elsewhere, but for an expensive, but nice, diner out with some fun lounging upstairs afterwards, its the place to be. more

Overhyped, Underwhelming 6/4/2008

I was not impressed with my experience at Republic. It seemed like it was trying very hard to be cool and classy, but failed on all counts. Not only that, but my meal cost way more than it should have given the quality of the food. I won't be going back... And beware of the "restaurant owners" who are writing positive reviews for Republic (Restrentreprenuer and Bluepalmsla). Looks like someone at Republic is calling in personal favors to fool Citysearch users! Don't be a fool! Take your money elsewhere! Pros: On La Cienega Cons: Unremarkable food, Overpriced, Arrogant staff. more

The last person needs a Hug and A Friend 6/4/2008

This place is amazing. I'm sorry that you are so negative about everything. You say people are ugly and the menu is stinks.( The Chef is a James Beard Award Winner ) You need to pull your head out of your $@% and wake up. Ugly people!!! Who the hell are you? It must be nice to be so perfect and BEAUTIFUL. We could learn a lot from you and your world. Pros: Amazing Place Cons: Sore People who are negative more

what a joke 6/3/2008

first off i normally wouldnt write a review but i just couldnt help myself after i started reading some of the highly rated reviews that must have obviously been written by their management staff. I have ate there twice and both times the food was awful awful. We had a reservation and still had to wait 45 minutes to be sat, waitress was not friendly and seemed annoyed if anyone had a question about their disgusting menu. the food took forever to come out. They are way over priced and try to pass this place off as fine dinning.... the menu is a joke with items like mini burgers that are never cooked, cold corn dogs, dry and tough steaks and their salads are boring and bland , what kind of fine dinning is that!?!?! I also made the mistake of going to their club after dinner the second time and got a table for bottle service. And just after i thought service could not be worse than our experience inside for dinner i was proven wrong once we met our cocktail waitress who never came to the table once to check on us, just dropped off the bottles and never returned till the end of the night to drop off the bill. Do yourselves a favor and save your money and time, there are way better restaurants and clubs nearby. i can guarantee that any other place would be far better and cheaper. Pros: ambience Cons: ugly people bad service bad food over priced more

Poorly Managed Tourist Trap 6/2/2008

If you are a hermit emerging from years in the desert, then you might find this restaurant to be halfway decent, sophisticated and worth the $150 per person to enjoy a half-rate meal. Please do yourself a favor and take your money to one of the truly fine dining establishments in the near vicinity. I'll give you some hints: Morton's, Cut, Wolfgang's, STK, Mastro's, BLT. Ignorant management offered us a free meal to compensate for our poor dining experience. As if I'd ever come back! Pros: Decor isn't bad Cons: Poor Service, Bad Management, Overpriced Food more

suprisingly detail orientated, great food 5/24/2008

I took one of my out of town clients there on wednesday night hoping to impress! when we walked in at 7:00, i was a little aprehensive as to weather or not we should stay because it was rather slow. we did enfact decide to sit at the bar and have some cocktails to see if it would pick up. Around 7:30, several groups of people walked through the doors and really boosted the vibe. Once we were sat by the hostess, and greeted by a server, another gentleman approached the table with a complimentary Amuse which consisted of a backwards lobster taco shooter which was unblievable. For apps we shared the crab cakes which we later found out are crusted with ritz crackers, fantastic at the very least. for our entrees i asked the server if they have anthing unique, he explained the mesquite grilled venison and i was instantly intrigued. my client ordered the special which was a 42 oz. veal porterhouse. the venison which i expected to be overwelmingly gamy ,turned out to be subtle and full of flavor. my client was raving about the porterhouse but was unable to finish. for dessert i chose the servers recomendation of the chocolate soufle, this too was very good. upon leaving the valet was very slow and could be considered rude as well. all in all i was suprisingly impressed by this restaurant and will definitly return Pros: food, service Cons: valet more

Amazing Steaks and great atmosphere in the club 5/6/2008

I love the Filet Mignon at Republic. Always cooked perfectly and the sides are delicious as well. The atmosphere at Republic is hard to beat, the decor is very unique and classy. Love this place and the staff are always very friendly and attentive. My favorite desert is the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and raspberries. I've also went last Saturday to the club attached to the restaurant, called Reveal. The main dance area and table service booths are out on the large patio and the upstairs lounge is also open. Had a great time there with my friends, we loved the DJ and the crowd was very hot and surprisingly friendly. They're running it as a member's only club, but one of the promoters told me you can apply through LA4real dot com I will be back there for sure, def. when it gets hotter outside for the patio. Pros: great food, love the atmosphere, hot crowd Cons: not inexpensive, saturdays can get busy (club), parking is tough on Saturdays more

Wow! 4/21/2008

Definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in Los Angeles! My boyfriend took me there to celebrate my birthday last Saturday night. From the moment that we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcomed by the staff. We started with the waiter's recommendation of the Lobster Corn Dogs, which we were originally skeptical of, but following the first taste we were instantly sold! For our entrees we selected the Dry-Aged New York and the Bone-In Filet which were both cooked perfectly to temperature and extremely tender. My boyfriend must have said something to one of the managers, because after dinner the waiter brought out a complimentary dessert with a candle in it and they sang, "Happy Birthday." The staff was very attentive and checked in with us regularly. They even have a person designated to folding napkins when people get up from their seats. The atmosphere was great and there was definitely a good vibe. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that is serious about their food and wine. Pros: Food and service Cons: Parking more

Are You Serious with "BEST FOOD BEST STEAK BEST ATMOSPHERE" 4/7/2008

The food is mediocore at best and the prices are obnoxious for the quality. The below review was clearly written by the restaurant. The food is not very good and the crowd is not too great either. They overbook the restaurant and keep everyone waiting at the bar to raise drink revenue. The club has a horrible crowd as well. A DEFINITE PASS!!! Pros: Beautiful Restaurant Cons: Everything Else more

Top Steak, Top Service, Top Atmosphere! 4/5/2008

A truly wonderful experience! I'm all about the atmosphere in restaurants and I can tell you this is THE most enchanting. I have dined at countless five star restaurants world wide, but this tops everything. Our waitress was so sweet and made my husband and me feel like royality. I am a big steak lover and have always found the Ritz and Mastros the most pleasing in Southern CA. But the new star restaurant has risen! My Steak was the most excellent I have ever had, no kidding. Most tender and flavorful, pleasing a whole new sense. I cannot wait to bring my friends to The Republic and make them feel like queen and king as well. Pros: Top Steak, Top Service, Top Atmosphere! Cons: None more

Worst dining experience in Los Angeles. With a bonus of being overpriced. 4/2/2008

I have never been treated so rudely by a restaurant. Service was slow, management was RUDE and arrogant. I feel so strongly about this that I would almost hand out money to people at the door to get them to eat somewhere else! Food was decent, but for $140 per person (what we spent), it should have been fantastic. It's just steak! I can think of 10 restaurants where i could have had the same meal for $80. If you do want to spend a lot, then please go somewhere like Mastro's, Providence, Lucques, Sona, Mozza, Bastide, or Nobu where you'll feel like you were treated like a king and the food was "worth every penny" (even at $140). Pros: Pretty dining room Cons: Poor service, long wait, arrogant staff, overpriced & mediocre food. more

Worst Restaurant/Bar I've Ever Been To, EVER! 3/29/2008

The Republic is a truly awful place. You couldn't pay me to go back. They offer lax service, bland/cold food, warm beer, and repugnant mixed drinks. I've seen hotter women selling themselves on the streets of L.A. It's a who's who of who's nobody. Pros: Great place if you hate yourself. Cons: Everything is awful. more

good food but 3/10/2008

This is my first time writing a review for a restaurant. This place has a very unprofessional staff. We had a 9 p.m. reservation , they sat us at 10:30. We were a large party so they had a set menu and you couldn't order from the regular menu. The waitress took our order, then half way through our table said "someone elso will be taking your order" so we had order twice. Then when the bus boy brought our salads, he set them down in front of us but 2 seconds later, he said " wrong table" and he took them away. Anyhow by the time we ate it was 12:30 p.m. I must say the waitress was very nice, she did not have an attitude but it was like they just opened this place today and noboby knew what they were doing !!! The food was tasty but very expensive. I would not go back there again. Pros: food was good Cons: very expensive, unprofessional staff more

nice place shity service 3/5/2008

Went out on a saturday night to celebrate my buddy's bday and got a table. There were 6 of us to begin wtih and were expecting a couple other people to join us later,so we started with just one bottle. It would have been a pretty descent night, the music was good and the place was nice however the waitress (some short blonde troll) or at least i assume she was the waitress because she took our order droped off the bottle and then was MIA for the rest of the night!!! our other guest arrived and we wanted to get a 2nd bottle but we never were able to get it,besides that the table was a disaster we had no glasses and had to swipe a few from another table . The rest of the night we had to push our way through the croweded bar and wait to get drinks since we never did see her agian. Yet she had no problem showing up at the end of the night to drop off the bill with her 20% TIP INCLUDED!!!!!!!! she was aweful!!! If i ever decide to go back will definately not get a table. more

Such a terrible Restaurant... 2/24/2008

Horrible food, Horrible service, and Horrible valet. I was in of a party of 9 people for a birthday. We confirmed with the restaurant TWICE that there was NO minimum and can order from the regular menu. For parties of 10 or more, the minimun order amount per person is $55.00 and the menu is limited. That all changed. The waitress was stuck up and snobby. She told us that there is a minimum of $55.00, but we can order from regular menu. Then, she changed her mind and told us that had to order from the limited menu since the chefs were really busy. The food was horrible. Everyone else thought the same way. Usually, sea bass tastes great in other restaurants. This time it was dry and did not have any flavor. Lastly, the valet service sucked. I am thankful that they found it. I was one of the first persons to give my claim ticket and the last one to receive my car. I was so frustrated. Then it gets worse. I arrived at the restaurant and gave my car to the valet; he did not charge me or tell me how much. When I gave my claim ticket to the valet person, he did not say anything. I was expecting to pay him then or expect to know how much. Usually, l pay for valet by this time, and I thought it was free since there was NO sign stating how much. Then, valet person opened the door for me and told me $10.00. Now look, I don't mind paying $10.00, but I was just so angry that I did not want to pay. The valet service was horrible. I argued with the "valet manager", and she was just cussing me out. She told me to get my receipt validated. So I went to the restaurant manager, and he tells me that they do not validate for valet and the valet is a separate company that valets for all the restaurants in the area. The sign said "Republic Valet." He just wanted to get rid of me. So, I ended up paying. I am surprised this restaurant is in business. Do yourself a favor and Don't Go, unless you are rich and want to waste money on sorry food and service. Pros: Ambience Cons: Bad service, snobby waitresses and waitors, tasteless food, unorganized valet service more
