We went canoeing and stayed at the 6/11/2012

We went canoeing and stayed at the campground. River trip was awesome, very quiet, with very few houses, and quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, the campground was unkept, with dogs roaming and trying to get our food, around our site at all hours. We were planning a quiet family time at the campground, but were shocked. Apparently, employees also live there in old buildings, and were partying, yelling, all around us, acting like my family was invisible. The cursing, moving canoes, trucks, and tractors lasted until 11pm. There was only one tent site that had electricity, which did not give us any choice in sites. The staff were young, irresponsible, and one staff member was literally grabbing the busdriver's arm, then backing up to the driver and passing gas on him, while he was driving us to the canoe site. What a shame, it's a beautiful area and could be a great family outing. more

lost keys 7/19/2011

I have lived in robertson county all my life (33 years) and i have never been to Red River to go canoeing. Myself and 8 of my friends decided to take the trip. I was excited for something new. We got down there and within the first half hour we had flipped lost the coolers for a moment and lost my keys to my vehicle and my house for good. Or so I thought, we looked for them for a while and I just thought we lost emso I chalked it up as a loss. The water was terrific had plenty of places to stop for food and drink and at the this time of year it was too deep either. The water was nice and cool and such a hot day. It was a nice slow, relaxing trip that took close to 5-51/2 hours. 2 weeks after we took the trip I had someone call me at work and Red River had found my keys and was able to get in touch with me. That was amazing and i will never forget how great the trip and their hospitality was and we are planning another trip soon....Thanks Red River... more

lost canoe 6/21/2010

Christina and I had a blast there.. the great flood was may 1st and 2nd.. 50' water level and 47 mph currents and they just opened back up. they said everything at the campgrounds was under water. but it is looking good all ready.. the only thing is the water is still up a little and some logs/trees have drifted in the flood our canoe lodged up against a log and a rock and the water filled the canoe quickly.. couldn't get it pulled off but we saved our cooler, lifejackets and paddles.. caught a ride with some nice folkes and at the end the people at red river weren't upset at all.. said that was the 7th canoe this week and I think it has only been back up and running this week. lol oh well we had a great time anyway along with a good story.. will def. go again...but maybe when water levels go back down just a few more feet Pros: everything was great Cons: none really just know where you are getting off at. more

Great Trip with the Kid 8/29/2009

I had a great time on the Red River Today with my 3yr old son. The 4hr trip was the perfect length. I love that it is a clean quite river. There aren't alot of houses on the section we went down and it is really easy to find. The staff was also very friendly. Pros: Quiet Beautiful River more

great place for canoeing 7/19/2009

we called days before we arrived, was told we did not need to make reservations, we were told a price per person and once we arrived the price was higher, and did need reservations, 50% of the staff was very ruid and unhelpful, the food sucked unless you like doughy biscuits, cold coffe, it took us 30 mins to check in because the person was uninterested in waiting on us, Pros: plenty of space for camping Cons: price was different once we got there more

Best Canoe Trip 8/7/2007

I want to thank Vicki & Bobbie for planning and excuting this wonderful trip to Red River Canoe. It was my first canoe trip and it was great. The campground is shaded (much needed for August), the bathrooms are clean and sanitary. The staff is great - even for an Ol' Texan (I now live in Hendersonville). They only thing I can complain about is they couldn't get a fish to bite my bait. Oh well, next time. Pros: Shady Camping, lots of canoes, clean bathrooms Cons: just a little pricey more
