The crab cocktail was very delicious, but I have to admit I was overall disappointed. Having grown up in Ballard, I was under the impression that Ray's was a must dining experienc...

Amazing food in a great location! 8/31/2005

What a fabulous restaurant with fabulous service and fabulous views! The perfect place to enjoy a meal with friends after work or to kick off a romantic evening on the town! Half off appetizers during happy hour is always a plus and the service is phenomenal! Ray's has been around for many years so it has been able to establish itself as a great restaurant in the Puget Sound. A must try restaurant that is trully remarkable! more

Awesome, Awesome Happy Hour - but its no secret 8/26/2005

Sitting in Ray's Boathouse for happy hour is just a fun time. The prices for most of their appetizers is half off. It's totally worth it and the quality of their dishes is outstanding. Just be sure to get there early as the place fills up. It is quite the happening spot on Thursday and Friday afternoons. more

Avoid the crowds and reap the rewards 8/22/2005

Ray’s Boathouse has both the best and the worst happy hour. The best because they serve such high-quality seafood appetizers at half-off their usual prices. Worst because finding a seat is an uphill battle. If you can find one, though, with enough time to order, you will not be disappointed. I recommend the Ceasar salad with their incredible croutons. more

ray's boathouse 8/21/2005

I know rays is not downtown, but the happy hour is great from 4-6 and 10-12. Everything is half price. It is worth the trip to ballard. more

Very Good Happy Hour 8/19/2005

The restaurant is right on water so it has a great view of Puget Sound. The food is awesome...a little pricy but worth it. If you are on a budget, try to make it for happy hour upstairs in the bar. The happy hour menu includes cheap food and drinks. The best of which is the clams, calamari, and the salmon. There are also other things like burgers but you are in a seafood place you should stick with the seafood. more

My Favourite Standby For Excellent Seafood 8/18/2005

I love going to Ray's! The deck seating in the warmer months is a strong selling point, and the food of course, is the other. I wish I could get out of the rut of always ordering the smoked cod, or whatever fish they substitute according to season. It is to die for! If they don't have it on the menu, ask for it. Their Happy Hour is a bargain. We usually go to the later HH, after 10PM. The entire app menu is 1/2 off! We ordered the smoked seafood salad (generous amounts of smoked scallops, mussels, salmon), fish and chips, seared ahi, and calamari, had a couple of drinks. Tab came to less than $45. What a steal! more

Great Ceasars at Ray's 7/30/2005

Ceasar salads have a long history in Seattle. In the 80's, before every restaurant had one, there was an AMAZING ceasar salad at Hank's in madison park - now closed. This ceasar was an event and a special memory for those of us who ate them. Since then, it seems every restaurant in the country has their own version. I would say that the ceasar at Ray's is one of the best in the city. They really get it right - perfect creamyness and cheesyness with the subtle salty anchovie. It also tastes great with the salmon or crab added. Ray's is also a great restaurant in general and the perfect place to take out of town in-laws, etc. more

Head to Ray's on a Sunny Day 7/29/2005

Ray's is my favorite outdoor dining spot in Seattle, hands down. Sipping a cold beverage on the sun soaked deck and then watching the sun set over Puget Sound in the foreground and the Olympics in the background is as close to a perfect afternoon/evening as one can find. (Just one man's opinion of course) Granted, it's been a few years since I've been there (been living in other parts of the country for 6 years but now we're back in Seattle), so it's possible things have changed. That said, my wife and I plan to find out for ourselves if Ray's is still Ray's when it comes to delivering really good seafood and unparalleled Seattle ambiance. more

Ray's Boathouse Restaurant 7/25/2005

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. I ordered the Black Cod smoked over Apple wood and it was really, really, good. The fish was incredibly tender, and had a wonderfu, sweet smoky taste. The starter salad had a nice presentation and was very tasty as well. The ambience was very pleasant with gorgeous views of Shilshoe bay. It's not cheap, but if you have money to spend I highly recommend it. more

Great setting - ok food! 7/12/2005

Rays is out on shilshole bay right on the water. It offers some great food but each time Ive gone there Ive felt like we are eating at the country club or something.. (Hence I feel very out of place!). As far as their offerings.. the food I cannot complain. But the place is not fancy by any means and there seems to be alot of older folks with the bling there. It is a beatiful location and a great spot to go for lunch on sunny day. When I used to go there it was always packed. The last visit it was kind of dead. Not sure if that is a sign of things or not. more

Amazing seafood, worth the price! 7/11/2005

I went with a group of 4 to Ray's Boathouse on the recommendation of several people. The food is a bit on the expensive side, depending on what you order, but all the dishes are excellently prepared and taste great. The Crab Legs, which I had, were amazingly fresh. The portions could have been a bit larger for the price, but I left mostly full. I tried a bit of the Sablefish, a dish a friend got and inisted would "ruin him from eating any other food again" and agree it's possibly the best fish I've ever eaten. Ray's also has an upstairs "cafe" which offers lower-priced menu items, which are also a excellent (though, having eaten at both, I recommend the real Ray's, downstairs!) Seafood lovers need to try out Ray's. more

VERY busy happy hour on weekend 6/30/2005

The happy hour food prices at Ray's is what drew me, my girlfriend, and a visiting friend to Ray's. It was a Saturday and the bar was PACKED. It took us 30 minutes of lurking-while-pretending-not-to to find a table and by then happy hour was almost over. The food was honestly worth it, though I would suggest attending a weekday happy hour if possible. more

Ray's is a Classic 5/28/2005

You really cannot go wrong with Ray's. Non-corporate feel right on the water with an outstanding views of the Olympic Mountains and boats on their way to the locks. Great deck for dining. Servers bring out blankets if you get chilly. Classic northwest cuisine - seafood is fresh and classically prepared. Always excellent service (servers often make Ray's their career) and lively atmosphere. Locally-owned and lovingly patronized for decades. You won't be disappointed. more

Rays is the place 5/27/2005

I would really recommend Ray's Boathouse for a graduation dinner. It is on the waterfront in Ballard with a killer view of the Olympics. more

the food is as good as the view 4/26/2005

simply put, there's no better place to get seafood than ray's boathouse. whether you go for dinner or lunch, you will have a great meal. i'll start with the obvious - their salmon. holy incredibly-yummy smoked salmon, batman! i have no idea how they get it to be this delicious but i'm now spoiled. it's just chock full of flavor and just the right texture, too. their side dishes are great, they make good drinks, the waitstaff is nice, and if you go on a nice day then prepare to be mesmerized by the perfect view. the do a nice lunch, too - calamari, salmon sandwiches, and lots more. and they always have a few decent veggie options for the non meat eaters out there. finally, ray's is a GREAT place to host an event. we had our west coast wedding reception there and it was wonderful, memorable, and the food was outrageous. that's my story and i'm stickin with it. more
