I have eaten here on several occasions and have always experienced great service and food quality. The information given in the last review about the rice is incorrect. I too was a bit confused and asked the server about the rice servings. Most of the dishes are served with rice. If you are a party of two or more they serve the rice family style (in a larger bowl). But of course if you request more as with any restaurant you are charged for it. Ever been to a Friday's or Uno's and asked for extra fries and not been charged? They are famous for their Dosa - lentil crepes which are great as well as their naan! I visit and order take-out often - always worth it. I'm a big fan of indian food and this place was just wonderful. The pricing was good and the service was delightful. I don't care for dark meat chicken and I was told that I could order even the dark dishes with chicken breast (i've been to other indian places that wouldn't do this). We ordered papad (lentil crisps), vegetable samosas, naan bread, I had the chicken madras curry (made with white meat) and my SO had the lamb korma. Everything was absolutely amazing. The samosas were some of the best I've ever had, the curry was delicious, a tad on the mild side, but so flavorful. I tasted the lamb korma as well and it was also wonderful. The naan bread was very good, not the best I've ever had, but the other wonderful dishes made up for it. My SO also had a mango lassi which was very tasty. The basmati rice was fluffy and tender and was tlavored with caraway seeds and sprinkled with cilantro. It was perfect with the meat dishes. The only criticism i have for the place is that most indian places don't charge extra for the papad. It is brought at the beginning of the meal for no charge. However, that certainly won't keep me from going back again and again. I'll just remember to order things a little spicier next time. Even after I was full i still wanted to keep eating just because everything was so delicious. I couldn't wait to eat my leftovers the next day. I used to visit Rangoli regularly when I lived in Allston. Their wait staff has always been friendly to me and recognizes me even after moving and not coming in for months. Their food is excellent, although not very spicy. What really draws me into Rangoli is the reasonably priced menu. I have been to several other Indian restaurants in Boston and have found myself paying one-and-a-half times as much as Rangoli for food that had half the flavor. I highly recommend their lunch buffet, it's one of the best Indian lunch buffets in Boston. more

I ordered take out from this place after reading some of the good reviews it got, but was sorely disappointed. The staff seemed nice enough, but the food left much to be desired. The chicken in the chicken madras was tough as was the lamb vindaloo. The food lacked flavor and despite both dishes being listed as hot, there was no fire or kick in either one. I'm not Indian, but I've eaten at Rangoli with many Indian and Nepali friends (the waitstaff is mostly Nepali) and they say that Rangoli is authentic and great. I can't vouch for that, but out of the dozen or so Indian places I've been to in and around Boston, Rangoli is the best. The service is fast and friendly, the menu is extensive, the food is consistently excellent, and the chef accomodates requests for more heat. I took a group of 20 there a while ago and the staff seated us before all had arrived and gave us the same great service they give to parties of two. I've lived in Boston for 16 years and have eaten at at least 100 restaurants. Rangoli is one of about three places I know I'll ALWAYS get a great meal.
