Lots of Negative Reviews On All Sites 5/6/2010

I have a good friend. She is looking for a puppy. We have been reading reviews for a week. Lies , poor service & attitude seem to be the common theme for Raising Rover. We are from the Upper East Side. I own a 5 year old dog. We used to groom @RR & had to stop after we were lied to by Jeff. To add insult to injury, when we confronted Jeff & called him on his lie - he became bitchy & displayed an ugly side that we had never seen before quite literally insisting we 'leave his store' with our dog- ONLY HALF GROOMED!!! Just 15 minutes earlier, by phone, Jeff swore to us that the dog ""had not been touched yet"" (3 hours after drop off-which we found annoying & odd), so we stopped by moments later to check- imagine our surprise when we arrived and found our dog more matted than ever and half groomed. We asked how moments earlier he could say the dog was, ""not touched"" on the phone which was now an obvious blatant lie- he flipped out while the entire store watched and became unhinged screaming at us to ""get out of his store"" while cursing over and over about being called a liar. Now, i have never written a review for or against anything, but seeing so many reviews depict this guy Jeff as a raving lunatic and liar (which was my exact experience) - made me realize staying silent would be akin to guilt -as it seems he behaves this way often. *****We've also noticed that Jeff responds to negative reviews all over the web- a sure sign of an unbalanced man child with obvious self-control + mommy issues. Pros: Great to visit if you like being bitched out by the owner Cons: Lies, Poor Service & Bitchy Attitude + Questionable Pups more

This place is APPALLING!!!! 4/29/2010

We got our puppy on Saturday afternoon, by nighttime the poor puppy could barely keep its eyes open and was panting. Sunday she got worse. We feared the worse and brought her to the vet first thing Monday morning and found out that we had purchased a VERY sick puppy!!! We were told by Jen, the used car salesman-esqe chick at the store, that the puppy had just got a clean bill of health. bullS@%t!!! The vet said there is no way that someone checked this dog out and said it was fine. So we made the heartbreaking decision to return the dog because we purchased her under such false pretenses --and even though our payment had not even been processed we were not given a refund. There goes almost $2000 for two horrible and traumatic days. These people are SCUM!!! They sell SICK, most likely PUPPY MILL dogs with no regard for decency to their customers and those animals lives. DO NOT BUY A DOG HERE EVER!!!!! I'm now making sure I tell everyone i can, anyway i can to stay away fro this place. Cons: They deceitfully sell sick puppies more

We got THE BEST puppy from Raising Rover 4/18/2010

We are so happy with our puppy-who has now turned into the best dog ever!! The staff knows everything about dogs, they are helpful, honest people with the best interest of the dogs as priority. Love their grooming too. more

We love our puppy! 4/17/2010

We bought our beautiful chihuahua, Khloe, last October from Raising Rover. We had a wonderful experience with Jeff the owner. He was so knowledgable and helpful answering all of our questions. We immediately fell in love with Khloe -- and she has been a joy. Perfectly healthy and well-adjusted. Jeff is truly a genius in what he does!!! We would definitely recommend this place to our family and friends!! Pros: beautiful clean store, excellent selecion of puppies Cons: none! more

Beware 3/29/2010

The 11-week old puppy that we bought at Raising Rover had giardia!!! which is an intestinal protozoan infection which causes diarrhea and which can be transmitted to humans. Imagine my horror when I found out since I have three young children. I called the vet who cared for the store's puppies and was informed by the office that the store had been treating the puppies for the infection. I then called the saleswoman, Jen who sold me the puppy and she denied any knowledge of an infection. I'm not sure who to believe, but I suggested that she inform whomever had purchased the two puppies that had been housed with our puppy that their puppies may have acquired giardia. She said she would ""look into it."" \r \r If you're thinking about getting a puppy from there, think again. If you've already purchased one from there, have the stool tested more often; the parasite/cysts may not be present in every stool. Cons: Puppies have parasites more

This Place is Extravagant 3/29/2010

Whenever I go to Raising Rover and Baby ., I am immediatley greeted by the staff . The store is always so very neat, and clean. I bought my mini red poodle there for an amazing price that I didn't find anyplace else. The owners are incredibly sweet and kind. They really know what they're doing! They have an excellent variety of clothing and accessories for your pampered pooch and your young prince or princess. I will always be a fan of raising Rover & Baby! I would reccommend this to all my friends and family, in fact, I already have! Pros: Amazing Customer Service, Great Merch, Lovely Atmosphere Cons: none. more

We love our Raising Rover puppy!!! 3/5/2010

My family and I purchased a puppy from raising rover in january, a little morkie who we named tootsie. Being a first time dog owner, I had no idea what I was doing or what supplies we needed but Jennifer and staff helped us step by step and went over everything very slowly for us. They asked us what our needs were and discussed all of the breeds with us to make sure we were leaving with the perfect puppy for our family (we have 2 younger children and my husband suffers from allergies as well). We were so happy with our experience there and have gone back to visit now that toosie has all of her shots :-). The only drawback is that i think their grooming is a little expensive, but no complaints here! Thanks raising rover!\r -Tootsie and fam Pros: healthy happy looking puppies, helpful, knowledable staff Cons: expensive grooming more

DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM RAISING ROVER! 3/5/2010

Raising Rover intentionally misrepresents the puppies they sell and the breeders they use. \r \r I bought a hybrid breed (minature bulldog) only to find out 9 months later it was a full size bulldog. I paid ""mini bulldog"" prices, and he assured me this was a ""real"" mini and other places are tricking ppl into buying them. \r \r The minis are supposed to have better health and longer lives. So, $4k later, I have a full sized bulldog w/ health problems. \r \r Please trust me and do not buy any dog or trust RAISING ROVER & BABY on LEX. I have no agenda but to help others not be duped by the owner Jeff, who is a crook. \r \r ps-after minimal research, i've found numerous other ppl who were duped by Raising Rover as well Cons: The owner is a liar and misrepresents the breeds of dog sold more

My Poodle Loves Apple Stroodle...Thank You Raising Rover 1/13/2010

My poodle ""LOLA"" is everything we wanted, adorable, sweet, and so damn smart !!! My husband and myself travel back and forth from the east coast to the west coast and LOLA always joins us. She is just a dream dog and I wanted to thank raising rover on this public site. Every time I shop there I buy a new dog carrier, they are like handbags. We also bring LOLA in for grooming when we are back in New York, she comes out looking like a little princess. I would tell anyone to trust raising rover. Pros: Healthy puppies, customer service, grooming Cons: opens late in morning....opens at 10:30am more

Amaziny puppies great experience 12/15/2009

i got my puppy-Bella there in May and I had nothing but the best experience. Bella is my first puppy I have ever gotten and I would ONLY buy puppies in the future from Raising Rover. I call at least one time a week to ask questions and they are always so helpful on the phone. We are in the neighborhood and even visit the store quite often to visit the new puppies as well as Jeff and Frankie. I love my hava-poo and i am soooooo thankful I bought her at raising rover. She is perfectly trained, healthy and sooooooo cute. I LOVE RAISING ROVER! more

Best puppy store from Long Island to New York 11/30/2009

I purchased my first puppy from Rasing Rover nearly 3 years ago only to find myself so in love with him that we purchased another one 6 months later as a birthday present for my son. Again nothing but a great experience, so once again went for puppy #3 the following christmas...one for each of my 3 children! We all could not express to them how grateful we are to them for making our family complete. They guided us in the right direction on which puppy would be best with young children to which dogs will get along best with eachother. They couldnt have been more right, every bit of advise they gave us was 100% accurate. We went back to them to purchase a puppy for my sons girlriend for her sweet 16...another perfect choice, she was thrilled and the puppy is beautiful.Since then 3 of her family members have gone to puchase puppies from Raising Rover along with numerous friends of ours. We are also involved in a large fund raiser for a charity for sick children that they have always donated a puppy to us to give away and they have made whoever received the puppy the happiest people in the world! So if I could say anything else about Raising Rover it would be that there is NO better place to go if you are looking to add a puppy to your family and no better staff to guide you in the right direction! Pros: Excellent, knoweledgable staff more

disgusted 11/27/2009

i was just browsing citysearch for pet stores and came upon these recent posts. i have to say that i'm shocked that the owner/manager whatever would take the time to write such a nasty post about a customer. i will certainly not be shopping here. obviously this woman was upset about receiving a very sick puppy and is letting others know her experience - the whole purpose of this site. for the owner to say awful things about her as a person is just disgusting. if i shopped for my new puppy here, what would he be thinking or saying about me?! i don't want to find out. Cons: disrespectful, mean-spirited, untrustworthy more

Puppy Heaven! One-stop shopping for your pet & it's needs 11/27/2009

I purchased my three puppies from Raising Rover! All are gorgeous, healthy and easy to train!! Jeff (owner) and Frankie are sooo helpful and knowledgeable. They helped set me up with all that I needed for my new pup and even told me to call with any questions. I did and they never got annoyed with my questions. Referred me to a great vet too! Vanessa does a great grooming job & Jennifer is soo helpful!! Pros: Gorgeous, healthy dogs to purchase & great accessories! Cons: Too many cute things to choose from! more

Buyer beware! Don't buy anything here!!! 11/21/2009

A Baby and Rover (aka: Raising Rover and Baby - nice name switch) is not what it seems. This store made my life miserable for weeks after I bought a ""purebred"" puppy from them. What I got instead was an extremely sick dog who almost died. I also found out after the fact that the dog is actually not pure-bred (DNA results don't lie). The owner claimed that he only uses local breeders that he has known for many years. THIS IS NOT TRUE. My dog was bred at a mill in Missouri. I know this because I met the breeder. Once we found out the dog was terribly sick I got numerous calls from the owner begging me to take our dog to ""their vet"" for care instead of using our own vet. I took the dog to their vet where it received hideous care and was handed back to me , lifeless and lethargic. Plus, the vet acknowledged that it has a mutually beneficial financial arrangement with Raising Rover/A Baby and Rover (whatever) making me feel like the dog came last. In fact, the vet called the owner before calling me to update him of our dog's condition. The day I picked our dog up from ""their vet"" I had to immediately take it to the animal hospital where it spent the next 3 days in intensive care. And to top things off, Raising Rover and Baby continued to use my dog's picture online to solicit interest in his puppy mill dogs. It took weeks for me to get him to stop. By the way, the dog online was $800 less than what I paid. If you want to take a gander at all the free ads he currently has online, just type his phone number into google. You will love the part in his ads where he claims that he is ""not a puppy farmer."" Oh and the breeder was kind enough to tell me that once my puppy died she had a whole new litter being delivered to Raising Rover and Baby next week so I could easily just pick out a new one. Pros: I learned what a puppy mill is Cons: Sick dogs, puppy mill dogs, online puppy farmer, snobby more

We Love Our Double Trouble 11/15/2009

I think my two Havanese puppies are very special. We bought a brother and sister at the same time, and yes it was rough with training the first few weeks, but now they are just perfect. The staff always gives us helpful advise when we call . We even are in contact with their breeder in upstate new york. I was concerned about the breeder, but she really does care about her puppies.we live near the store and everyone in the neighborhood has a puppy from them and it's all good. If you are not going rescue a pet, I do recommend them. Pros: Healthy puppies, Very kool merchandise, Grooming Cons: my pups were expensive more

Don't buy at any puppy store 11/10/2009

ALL pet stores sell puppy mill dogs. If you don't know what a puppy mill is then google it. If you had bought a puppy from a pet store and want to know what puppy mill it came from you can find out for free at petshoppuppies org why spend all the money for a puppy that was not bred properly when you can adopt a puppy thta has been fully vetted at a much lower cost. All these owners of puppy stores do is support puppy mills. They spend 200 tops for a puppy than sell it for over a thousand. Spend 200 at a rescue and save your money Cons: They all sell puppy mill dogs including this one more

Very Nice owner/Customer service 7/7/2009

After reading all the reviews online for RR. We went to the Raising Rover yesterday to know about French Bulldog that we are looking to buy for this September 2009 when we get a dog friendly apartment and for our surprise Jeff and his staffs are very customer oriented very helpful nice and know about their dogs. I have been to 5 different pet stores in NYC and trust me i have seen puppies in cages which are dirty and puppies look so unhealthy. I'm really looking forward to buying frenchie from RR. Hope Jeff has cute nice frenchie puppy for me come this september,so i can write more about the whole experience. But for now with their friendly environment and great customer service I highly recommend this place. Pros: Customer Service/Clean/Healthy Puppies/Nice Environment more

If you want to find a fabulous puppy 6/25/2009

I've visited most of the pet stores in Manhattan as I hope to purchase a puppy soon to replace the love of my life--my mini schnauzer who died about 4 years ago at age 15. I was very put off by most of the stores I visited where the puppies seemed listless, dirty and downright sick. The puppies at Raising Rover are bouncy, clean, healthy, friendly and just incredible. I've visited several times and always found them to be so. I can't go by without wanting to buy them all. The store is beautiful with fabulous merchandise and friendly staff. Pros: Happy, healthy, clean puppies more

best dogs and service! 3/2/2009

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jeff and his operation. I walked into his store/community from an internet ad and I was prepared to be very negative about the fact that this was a ""pet store"". But my mind was quickly changed by the other customers who were buying second dogs from him and who were visiting the store with dogs they had already gotten from Jeff. I sensed that this was in a very positive community created by Jeff and his team. Jeff honored the internet price for our wonderful, good natured, great with kids, smart, trainable, healthy, Havapoo (Havadoodle) puppy named Pekoe. She has such a good temperament that she has qualified to become a therapy dog. As a first time dog owner, he helped me and my 8 year old daughter Paloma in every way possible and even gave me his cell phone number. Jeff helped us through a mini crisis because our hypo allergenic puppy had played with non hypo allergenic puppies and my daughter had an allergic reaction (Imagine the heartbreaking drama). He told me what to do (bathe her), not to worry no matter what, and it worked! I have recommended him to at least 10 people who have stopped me on the street demanding to know where they can get a dog like ours. The dog is a gem, and the service was beyond my expectations. And he didn't try to push any of the fancy shmancy dog accoutrement on me. A happy story and a truly satisfied customer! P.S. - the vet that he recommends (East Side Animal Hospital) turned out to be $200 cheaper than a Chelsea vet for the spaying. Again, another excellent recommendation on Jeff's part. Pros: fabulous healthy dogs and impeccable service more
