Please use Organic 365 ketchup instead of you know what... First impression, but the food was good and playing with the birds was fun. Thank you! more

This Place is a Landmark! 11/8/2010

Its been here as long as I have lived in Atlanta and its continues to deliver great food and customer service. R. Thomas even still brings his ""magic"" bird around sometimes...its quite the show! A couple of my favorite things on the menu are the Spicy Fish Tacos and the Chicken Curry Basil Wrap both fantastic. more

R.Thomas Deluxe Grill Has No Regard for Exotic Birds 10/20/2010

R. Thomas uses exotic birds to attract people to their place of business, but the birds themselves are treated HORRIBLY there. If you are vegan because you care about animals, I would not recommend supporting this business; it was very upsetting and distressing to see such cramped and confined birds who were trapped in cages on the outside of the building of the restaurant - that sits upon a very busy, noisy roadway. These birds are being used more for decoration than anything else and there is very little or no regard for their welfare as these animals should be in a setting that is closer to their natural habitat. The booming inside music along with the outside noise and the confinement must create such a hell for these poor beautiful exotic birds. If you are the kind of person who cannot stand to see a large living being cramped up in a small cage - or if you can't stand to see a bird not being given its right to a natural habitat or a place to spread their wings, then DON'T COME HERE. It's awful, and I will never go back again. I got the listing from HappyCow not knowing what to expect - I just got off a flight from the airport in Atlanta thinking I was going to a place that would understand a vegan lifestyle if they are going to serve vegan fare. This is not the case, here. Just keep going - and find somewhere else to dine in Atlanta. more

Three cheers for Mr. Thomas 9/12/2010

What can you say about an Atlanta institution that hasen't already been said? It's the best in town for a great meal and getaway from the other ho hum establishments. Mr T knows what his customers want and he supplies it like no other in the city. His decor and birds are a welcome sight to anyone. Three cheers Mr. Thomas more

Best Food In Town! 7/20/2010

Not mention the obvious fact that they serve delicious and healthy choices of food.. the staff was very friendly and help us all the way of our orders :-) Even remembered our names .. Thank you! Pros: healthy food more

a healthy treat for the whole family 7/12/2010

The food was really yummy aside from the fact that it is healthy. We can really tell by the taste of it that it was prepared with real fresh ingredients. The service was also awesome. This restaurant is very unique. The healthy food selection they offer made them stand out from the rest. Pros: healthy food more

Healthy options... 7/11/2010

This is the place to be if you are looking for a healthier treat. The food was fantastic. I love the wide array of food they offer which will truly pacify your hunger and at the same time nourish your body. Definitely something health conscious people must try more

One of the healthiest restaurants in Atlanta 6/27/2010

I have been going to R. Thomas for years and have always had great food and good service. Being a little organic in nature, I appreciate all of the vegetarian options and healthy dishes. Everything is prepared fresh and tastes it. Their breakfast and brunch items are just wonderful as well. Wish they had a larger space a little off of the road though. Give them a try if you haven't, you will have a great time and be impressed with the honesty and integrity of the food. S.M. Pros: Good food and great service Cons: The noise from the traffic can be a little loud more

Great Food, Racist Server 5/18/2010

We dine at this establishment about once a week. The menu has a great variety of delicious and healthy choices! But there is a female server (now wearing a short hair cut) there who we try not to be seated with because she openly discriminates against us and is very rude and I strongly feel it is because we are African American. When she is not our server, its great food and service, but if she is.....brace yourself to be ignored, addressed rudley and even have your change kept by her!!!! Other than her, it is a great establishment! Pros: Great Variety, delicious and healthy Cons: Racist Server more

Quirky Atlanta Staple Slings Health-Conscious Grub 2/25/2010

This Atlanta institution has been around for decades with its funky, tropical themed atmosphere on the massive indoor-esque patio. While greetings from talking parrots are not generally part of an Atlanta dining experience, it is certainly part of the charm of R. Thomas. Delicious vegan and vegetarian options such as veggie plates, or the heaping quinoa bowls covered in sauteed vegetables and sauces. The free range chicken wings are amazing, and they are grilled rather than deep fried. Open all hours of the day, R. Thomas also has a stout breakfast menu to please the late nighters and early risers. Pros: A great place to bring an out-of-towner Cons: Worrying that a car might skid off the road more

Healthy late night option! 10/7/2009

The small dishes/appetizers are fantastic! They are great options for late night snacks or if you're just not too hungry! Pros: Food available 24/7, healthy options Cons: overpriced more

Favorite place to eat in Atlanta 4/22/2009

This is by far my favorite restaurant in the ATL. So convenient and well located. Cesar is the best, thanks for the coupons, I still have some. Not sure about the animals and the condition the are though. Pros: food, 24 hours Cons: animals more

Not Worth It 4/15/2009

It had been a while since I had visited R. Thomas. I was embarrassed when I recommended it for lunch with some co-workers. First, $20 for lunch isn't reasonable when healthy food isn't as hard to get as it used to be, not to mention economic conditions. Secondly, the portions were minuscule -- ordered chips and salsa ""crumbs n red stuff"" and my salad might have had 3 leaves of lettuce (the saucer it was served on couldn't make it appear any larger). Finally, the food wasn't that tasty. My smoothie tasted watered down when compared to Arden's Garden and it was more expensive. There just isn't an excuse for R. Thomas when there are other options. They need to adjust or they'll meet the fate of their neighbors. Pros: Disappoiting Cons: Price, Portions, Quality more

Good food, recently gone downhill 3/29/2009

Basically an old hippie restaurant, R Thomas Deluxe Grill has been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now. It has a great atmosphere, the building is cool, and it's almost like entertainment to watch the variety of people that enter and leave. I started going around when I became fully vegetarian two years ago, and am now vegan. I've consistently been able to bring family and friends who weren't as meat-unfriendly as I and seen them leave happy and full. There are really only a few places around you can get raw cashew nut cheese or cultured veggies and raw root vegetable salad, with a big smoothie of pear juice mixed with mango, dates, local organic bee pollen, and honey. How amazing does that sound?! Well, they have 30 juices and smoothies to choose from, and even just stopping in to get one is worth it, on a late night or whenever. Did you know it's open 23 or so hours a day? However, recently R Thomas has reduced its portions AND raised its prices. This is coming straight from a person who works there. The quality has gone downhill somewhat in the last months, as well. Note, they have a few servers that are very experienced and have been there a long time. Don't be surprised by apathy. The kind of people that come into a 24-hour restaurant in the middle of Atlanta make life difficult for these people. Tip well, they deserve it, whether you know it or not. And the parking lot is terrible. At least they have plenty of it, though. All that said, I'm planning on going this afternoon. It's still great, unique food and worth the traffic you'll endure on Peachtree. Pros: One-of-a-kind dishes, great for vegans, vegetarians, and all Cons: Sometimes bad service, recently reduced portions, parking more

Rude Employee 3/19/2009

I went to R Thomas to eat one afternoon and was waited on by a waiter named James. He was very rude and disrespectful to myself and everyone in my party. I would never in my life go to a place where the service was so poor and the waitstaff would be allowed to treat customers in such a rude way. Anyone going there should know that they aren't paying for the quality of food they are paying for the public humiliation of being treated badly by their employees. I had to rate them one star since this wont allow me to give them zero, but really the service warrants no stars. Cons: Horrible service and rude waiter more

Bodacious Birds! Terrific Food! 3/18/2009

""Pay close attention to the unusual collection of parrots and other birds that reside in cages just outside the front door. Your eyes will behold a feast of colors from the wild decor that covers the entrance way. Your ears will be soothed by the pleasant sounds of water cascading from the fountain. The non-stop conversational hum that echos across the covered heated patio stems from the ever flowing parade of individuals from all walks of life who amble in through the door. You may be surprised by the simple table setting of card tables and plastic patio chairs, but don't let that stop you. People flock here for one thing, and one thing only: THE FABULOUS FOOD!! Yerba Mate tea, Edimame, the Thai bowl, corn-potato chowder, baked wings, various pastas, cashew cheese dip, Thai basil wraps, Portobello burger, fresh fruit smoothies/shakes, vegan cakes! If this starts you salivating, then head down Peachtree Road to your new home!"" Pros: Ample free parking, open late nights Cons: plastic patio chairs low to the ground, small card tables more
