Best

Great food, big quantities. A bit oily, but that only means you can re-heat the order for the next day and it'll still be moist and tender.

Worst

Not enough vegetarian menu items as compared to other Ethiopian places. Food was just okay - mostly bland. The cabbage was undercooked. They had NO Ethiopian coffee even though it...

Good vegetarian 9/14/2011

Good quality food at decent prices. Great place for group dining, go with clean hands since many of the dishes are enjoyed without silverware. more

and mom said eating with your hands is rude 5/29/2006

i adore dining at queen sheeba, especially on a weeknight when it's not too crowded. it's a bit tucked away on east john st. just east of broadway, but it's worth it. also a great place for a large group, btw. if you've never had ethiopian food, you are in for a fun surprise. you eat everything with your hands! well, sort of. the food is served in a big basket lined with injira - a spongey bread. it's family-style so several orders will come on one plate (make sure you know what the others are ordering!) you'll also get your own (large) piece of injira and to eat you just rip off a piece of bread, scoop and eat. voila! the food is very tasty and varied enough for any diners. lots of veggie dishes, lots of beef. plenty of chicken and more. mild or spicy. and LOTS of fun. more

Great Ethiopian 10/14/2005

Great food. Not the cheapest Ethiopian in Seattle, but very good food, and it's right off broadway. My favorites are the Yebeg Wat and Sheba's Spicy Chicken. Yebeg Wat is actually the more spicy of the two. If you don’t want lamb try the doro wat. If you’re vegetarian, the veggie sampler is great. more

Queen of Sheba 8/20/2005

The atmosphere at the Queen of Sheba is very homey and comfortable. The variety of dishes is wonderful, and the hosts are gracious and welcoming. For those who haven't eaten Ethiopian food before, it tends to be quite spicy, and is somewhat similar to Indian. You eat by scooping up each bite with a piece of spongy injera bread. Delicious! more

Finger food jewel 8/16/2005

Every time I go to Queen Sheba, I seem to forget what I had last time. This is somewhat surprising, because every time I go, I'm pretty sure I rule out most f the menu into the "I don't want to eat that" category (raw meats and super spice don't do it for me). I seem to recall that only leaves me with 4-5 dishes that I like. And yet, I always thoroughly enjoy whatever I end up with, and it's not just because I get to eat curries with the nan-like dishes they serve you. more

World Class Ethiopian Cuisine Right in the Heart of Seattle!

Owner Message
  • Unlike Western culture, Ethiopians place importance on communal dining traditions. Diners eat from a common platter, and the breaking of bread together takes on a strong social significance, for it is considered essential to maintaining loyal bonds, and friendship. An example of this is the custom of GURSHA; GURSHA means "mouthful" and refers to placing food in another's mouth, usually a gesture of friendship or affection.
Ethiopian cuisine is brought to life with the addition of special spices that gives each dish its flavor. MITMITA and BERBERE are two common spice mixtures used in Ethiopian cooking. Staple foods for most Ethiopians are INJRERE and WOT. WOT is a stew that usually contains a pepper mixture and can be prepared from meats, vegetables. INJERA is a type of unleavened bread with a spongy texture, made from TEFF, a grain similar to wheat.
