Best

I travel for my job and I have made it a tradition to always eat at a local Ethiopian restaurant in EVERY city I visit. I've been doing this for 6 years now and have had Ethiopian...

Worst

This was quite ordinary ethiopian food. I definitely tasted much better ethiopian food. The much smaller Ethiopian restaurant in Hillsboro (Lalibela) is much better. Pros: I...

I could eat here everyday 11/22/2005

I love the vegetarian sampler. You get a little bit of everything. The service is so friendly and the price is right. They are very kid friendly. I love it!! Pros: Food, Service, Value Cons: Parking more

I knew you when... 9/8/2005

I've been going here since it was half its current size and a few tables and a mix of groceries. I am so happy that it has been successful and stayed as tasty as it ever was. The people there are so nice, all the food is outstanding, and they have some of my favorite drinks ever: the ginger tea and, of course, their coffee. This is one of those places that I wanted very much to succeed, and I'm so happy that it has. Pros: Really good food, Friendly service, Welcoming atmosphere more

The Sheeber wins 7/14/2005

overall approval. The atmosphere is a bit lackluster, but it's homey and who cares when you've got a big ole plate of yummy injera in front of you covered with tasty stuff? Cubed beef in berber was a little tough--the vegetarian offerings were better. Nicely peppered gomen (greens) and split-peas, the lentils were pretty kickin too. Pleasant-as-can-be service from staff, (replete with entertainment in the form of two young children running hither). Look forward to going back for the lamb and more lentils... Pros: food, service, location Cons: atmosphere more

Pretty good food 3/16/2005

I thought the food was really tasty but it didn't fill me up. I ordered a meat entree with an extra side order of veggies and it still didn't leave me very full. I would've ordered another extra dish but i got tired of eating the ""bread"" that it comes with that you pick up the food with. I'm also not too much of a finger food person...for appetizer that's fine but not my entree as well. I also didn't like the atmosphere, the room i was sitting at was very poorly lit with hard metal chairs. I think it was a different experience but I probrably won't go back. I wouldn't reccommend this place to anyone who only like to eat with a fork and not their hands. Pros: Unique eating exper., Tasty, spicy food Cons: All finger foods more

Best Ethiopian 1/7/2005

It doesn't come more authentic and yummy than at the Queen. Nothing tastes bad here, and it is really something different, and in the best way. more

Vegans and Carnivores Delight 11/28/2004

I'm not a vegan, however the veg sampler for 2 is without equal. Complimentary flavours ranging from mild to spicy. QoS can't be beat for value and a diversion from the ordinary. Service has always been perfect from the ethiopian (only) staff. Pros: Value, Variety, Flavours more

vegan paradise 7/6/2004

This food is amazing! It is authentically vegan and is sooooooo flavorful. The spices used are natural antibiotics not to mention the totally good for you ""homemade"" ginger juice!!!!!! Definately try this place you'll love it......I have eaten there 3x in the last week since I have discovered it. Pros: vegan, huge portions, great service more

WONDERFUL!! 4/13/2004

This is by far the best Ethiopian food in town! The staff is wonderful, the service excellent, the prices cheap, and the food amazing!!!! Highly recommended! Pros: cheap, great service more

Queen of Sheba Restaurant 4/26/2003

My wife and I absolutely love this restaurant. It is an experience and we have shared this experience with a few of our friends and family. The injara bread which is flat, spongie, crepelike and has a distinct flavor and is used to pick up the rest of this meal-served on one large platter for all to freely share and enjoy! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... yummers! Pros: finger food, family style, awesome food Cons: small venue, crowded at times, rough neighborhood more

Keep Coming Back 1/18/2003

We visit here each time we return to Portland. The food is great, though unusua if you've never tried Ethiopian. The propieters are gracious. Worth trying out! more

Best there is 12/19/2002

Queen of Sheba has the best Ethiopian food in Portland. Great vegetarian options, and the food is spicy and flavorful without being overwhelmingly hot. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable. My only complaint is that the portions on the 2-person sampler have gotten noticeably smaller over time. Fantastic food, but not as good a value as it once was. Pros: Great taste, Friendly, Veggie-friendly Cons: Small portions more

Mmm MmmGood! 11/10/2002

After having tried the other Ethiopian restauraunts in town, this one is by far the best! I absolutely love this stuff. Pros: Friendly service, Delicious food, Fast Service Cons: Not best for kids more

Queen reigns supreme! 9/13/2002

This is by far the best Ethiopian restaurant in Portland. The food is aromatic without being perfumy and complex spices and tastes explode in the mouth. Other Ethiopian restaurants tend to be a little shy on flavor and substitute with over the top hotness. Queen's recipe's are plenty hot but a near perfect balence is assured with the fantastic flavors. Must tries are the sizzling lamb, mushroom stew, and yedro wet. The wait can be long sometimes. If you don't want to enjoy the ambience and music, try calling for take-out. Pros: Stellar flavors, Friendly service, Decent prices Cons: Sometimes small sides, Can be long wait, Need colder sodas more

Quite unusual 9/7/2002

The food tasted good .It is a different kind of food that everyone can enjoy. more

Awesome food 7/14/2002

After never having ethiopian foodm i fell in love with this place. Ive never had food better than this. Very good atmosphere; owners quite nice, and service is awesome. Pros: Great Food, Great Values Cons: no-parking, small building more

Best of the bunch 6/25/2002

Queen of Sheba is a slight cut above the other Ethiopian venues. I liked that there was some seperation between the food on the platter; this way it doesn't all mix into one big soggy mush. Even if you can take the hottest of the hot, go for the medium or the spices will mask the flavors of the dishes. The cracked wheat was excellent! Only disapointment: they're always out of honey wine. Pros: veggie dishes more

GOD I love this place 6/4/2002

Best Ethiopian restaurant in town! Always good. I love their mushroom stew. It raises your body temperature and gives you a great hot food ""high."" Be warned, if you don't like your food good, hearty and spicy this place may not be for you. Friendy staff. Eat and get ready for a nap afterward. Pros: YUM YUM YUM, Inexpensive, Consistant Cons: Location, Lack of Ambiance more
